Third season opener features Stefanie Powers and Don Stroud

Season 3 Episode 1- This third season opener immediately establishes aspects of mysticism with spirituality as Caine hears the cry of a newborn buffalo calf, and prevents it being killed by the hunter Reuben Branch (Albert Salmi, who had appeared in the original pilot, plus one prior episode, "Nine Lives"). Caine finds an ally in pretty Edna (Stefanie Powers), a prostitute pregnant with Reuben's child, who also seeks to return the baby to its mother, the first to return since the last of its kind had once roamed the land in droves. In the flashbacks, young student Caine (Radames Pera) demonstrates a gift for telepathy with both the newborn and the unborn, among the many strands weaved throughout the script. The third season also differed from the first two by going straight into the action before the beginning credits, here showing Caine on the run, as he often was, this time from a trio of bounty hunters led by Neulin (Don Stroud). Veteran character actor Victor Jory turns up as the local bartender, and, as another bounty hunter, Kenneth O'Brien makes a third appearance on the show, seen previously in "The Tide" and "The Ancient Warrior." Since the DVD release and 1974-75 broadcasts were both out of sync with the series' timeline, my reviews will reflect the correct viewing order, not really necessary for previous seasons, as few episodes were shown out of sequence. Next up- "My Brother, My Executioner"
