Feeble storyline only just held together by Alf and his flaming mongrels.

Warning: Spoilers
Donald Fisher is fast shaping into the true star of the series even if he isn't on the opening titles. He's a born anti-hero and the episode shines whenever he's on screen, from his scenes at the farm with a bemused Carly and Lynn to his semi-acceptance of Lynn's apology for misjudging him to his self-pitying confession to Ailsa about the difficulty of constantly being passed over for promotion.Ailsa filling in the details of his past is a nice defining moment, even if it won't be long before they get slightly tweaked.

Celia manages to irritate everyone, her unknowingly tactless remark about being younger than Ailsa is amusing, her unsubstantiated claim Ailsa is having an affair less so and it's a relief that Alf shuts her down.

Meanwhile, Floss and Neville are threatening to have a storyline as Floss finally meets her grandson Ben, only to find that, as advertised, he's a bit of a spoilt brat.
