"Winter Passage," a rewrite of episode 2 "The Threat," filmed in suitably frigid conditions, concerning a party of women and children waiting at the Breck (Daryl Masters, sixth of seven) trading post, eager to join their husbands before Christmastime, hiring Carl Hanlon (James Barron, first of three) as guide through the treacherous icy path. Hawkeye and Chingachgook are convinced that no such trail exists, but their advice for Mrs. Wedstock (Kay Hawtrey) to wait for spring thaw goes unheeded. What they don't know is that Hanlon plans to sell the women as slaves to Ottawa Chief Temisca (Peter Humphreys, third of five), while his two henchmen, Russo (Jon Granik, second of three) and Saunders (Juan Root, third of eight), ambush Hawkeye and Chingachgook before they can catch up. Their undoing is that Temisca only accepted the deal provided the women were taken in battle.
