Despite one HUGE logical error, a pretty good undercover episode.
planktonrules24 February 2013
Carol Lynley stars in this episode of "Hawaii Five-O" and it turns out to be a lot better than the previous show, "Tall on the Wave".

The show begins with a body discovered floating off shore. It seems that an undercover cop was identified and liquidated. Now McGarrett wants to once again infiltrate this gang and bring the murderer and these drug dealers to justice. However, they need a cop who is not known on Oahu, so he recruits a police woman from Maui (Lynley). She poses as a shady woman and manages to become very friendly with one of the more decent members of this drug operation. Although he eventually discovers who she is, he agrees to help her in her work as he's only cooperated so far with the big bad boss-man (Vic Tayback) because he's had no choice.

While the show has done quite a few undercover episodes as well as some involving females cops, this one is a bit better. I think some of it is because Lynley and her boyfriend on the show have some nice moments together. I only had one complaint, and it's a frequent cliché in cop shows--when she and her boyfriend overpower the assassin and deck him, they DON'T pick up the gun that falls to the floor. Who would do this?! I would have not only picked it up but blasted the jerk. I hate logical errors in TV shows--and this is a big one.

Carol Lynley was not a very good actress.

Warning: Spoilers
Carol Lynley, despite being one of the primary characters in the episode, does not come across as very believable. Frankly, I'm not sure how she was able to find work in the industry. She was the weakest link in this episode, just as she was in the Poseidon Adventure (one of my favorite films). "She's had three years with L. A. P. D. Two years with vice, each one with homicide, narcotics and robbery." "If you care to look at my file, you will find that I am an expert marksman, and that I came in second at the academy in self-defense."-----Sure. Sure you did. She says it was such little conviction, there is no way I would have selected her for the assignment. The entire episode she sounded like she was doing a read-through of the script for the first time. As the Vic Tayback character said to her "It's a good thing you're a pretty girl." Because that is the only thing she had going for her. The rest of the cast was fine and the story line was decent.

The Lady Cop isn't very convincing. And where is the $25 Million worth of Drugs?

Warning: Spoilers
A good story, but there are some some typical cop show blunders, including Chin Ho Kelly parked right in front of the mobster's house in a conspicous TV Repair van, for hours. And the bad guys don't even notice it? Not likely!

As reviewer K Webster says on this page, Carol Lynley is the weak link in this story. She just doesn't have the presence or the authority required to be an undercover narc in a $25,000,000 drug operation.

And speaking of other reviews, Plankton Rules stated the obvious: why didn't the lady cop pick up the gun after bashing the hit man's head in with a statue?

Another glaring question, where exactly are the drugs? A raft comes ashore, they hand Kimo a small box with some antennae on it, he carries it upstairs. The drugs certainly were not in that box. The statues that were supposed to hold the drugs are in only two crates, they fit in the trunk of the mobster's car. So where is the $25 Million dollars in drugs that McGarrett was so desperate to find?

And speaking of McGarrett, he will of course be the hero at the end, jumping out of a helicopter to tackle the bad man, and then consoling "the girl" as she cries over the dead guy.

It's an entertaining show, with good acting on the parts of Vic Tayback, Enrique Novi, and Nephi Hannemann as the soulless hit man.

8 Stars for "Angel in Blue"
