Gidget Dependance
JordanThomasHall27 July 2017
Gidget's (Sally Field) sister Anne (Betty Conner) and Anne's husband John (Peter Duel) are bothered by how unladylike Gidget is. On their own they arrange to enroll her in an exclusive girls' school in Paris. John, the psychology student, insists to Gidget's father (Don Porter) that he depends on her too much to let her go. It makes him decide to send her away, unknown to Gidget who must figure out why. An associate professor and fellow bachelor, Jerry Rodgers (Roy Stuart, Corporal Boyle on "Gomer Pyle: USMC") offers to move in with Gidget's father. Jerry's girlfriend Terry Walker (Donna J. Anderson) goes over the house with plans to make over the place in more of a swinging bachelor style. Gidget overhears and feels he just wants his freedom, and decides to take it in stride and not let him know that she doesn't want to go.

DON'T LEAVE YOUR DAD HOME ALONE, GIDGE.
tcchelsey1 July 2023
Lovable Gidget has a choice.... stay home with dad or go to a fancy school in Paris? What thinks she?? It all has to do with Anne's husband John (Peter Duel) who thinks its best for both of them, independence is the key! No so fast. Gidget starts to have second thoughts, especially when her dad gets an offer from one of his colleagues (played by Roy Stuart) to move in with him and turn the house into a bachelor pad?? Say it isn't so!

No body could turn on the tears like Sally Field, and she and her dad were a team. This episode is both funny and poignant, and something we can all relate to --leaving the folks. Stuart was appearing on GOMER PYLE (as Corp. Boyle) at the time, very popular on tv and commercials, also comedian Judy Carne makes an appearance, who in a few years would become famous as the "sock it to me girl" on LAUGH IN.

Lots of memories here, and Gidget formally dressed up as a Parisian student at the beach among the bikinis is an original! Fred Kohner wrote this episode, who created Gidget, based on stories of his own daughter who would hang with friends at the beach.

SEASON 1 EPISODE 9 restored color Columbia dvd box set.
