Frasier and NIles find a candidate to run against an incumbent they find despicable. But Martin supports the current guy. Everything is reasonable (though a long shot) until aliens come into the picture. It is a different kind of episode which works pretty well.

It is good but I wished the show took a bigger risk.

Frasier always was a mild parody of latte liberals and a few episodes in the show tackle this aspect head on. This is the most overt episode for the first several years in that regard. It is all in good fun and the cultural clashes between Martin and Niles/Frasier are funny enough. But I wish the show didn't come up with such a goofy political "scandal" to knee-cap the liberal. The right-wing candidate was allowed to be a law and order guy so why couldn't the liberal be an extreme environmentalist? Anti-Zionist?

I just wish the episode got a bit more specific here.

Alien write-in

Warning: Spoilers
The Candidate is an early season episode of Frasier, and I was motivated to record this after all the fanfare and hullabaloo over Frasier's return (which I haven't watched and I'm not sure if I will). Anyway, The Candidate sets up the premise juicily, with a right-wing conservative pre-M@ga candidate running for office on a law and order platform. Frasier and Niles work hard to support his opponent, but the scriptwriters seemed to want to over-compensate (and then some) by painting the opponent as a freak who claims he was abducted by aliens.

Anyway, Sydney Pollack voices the right-wing candidate.

The Candidate is One of my Favorite Frasier Episodes

Warning: Spoilers
While campaigning for the underdog, Frasier is told his man has been abducted by space aliens. We see him perform the commercial as a man who has lost his confidence in his candidate. By accident Frasier reveals the man's space secret. He confuses household aliens with the space ones. Marty has a good laugh when his man wins the local election. Try to catch this one.

The sane choice

Warning: Spoilers
Martin and the Crane boys are divided in terms of who to back in a local election, and it makes for an interesting, if not outstanding episode of the show.

I thought John Mahoney was good here, Martin has become less of a grump and more lovable as time has gone on, and this episode is a good example of that.

It's an episode of twists and turns, but there are enough good laughs, as well as the always welcome sight of Bulldog.

Although I felt they could have done more with Niles and his reaction to the situation overall this was a good episode.
