I have been recently watching season 1 of the Dick van Dyke show, which I think is the greatest sitcom of all time. I just watched this episode last night, and I thought that Isabel Randolph, as Mrs. Given the teacher, was laugh out loud hysterical. What a great comedienne! I know that this actress plays Mrs. Petrie in future episodes as a kind of sourpuss, but her lines, timing, and facial gestures in this episode were priceless. She really made this otherwise mediocre episode wonderful to watch. The look she gives Rob when he asks her if the children understand what he is talking about, and the way she goes on about Captain Harper - who has been there twice!- had me rolling. I look forward to viewing her with new eyes in the upcoming episodes where she plays Rob's mother.

Ritchie is ashamed of his daddy...but why?!
planktonrules26 November 2023
Apparently, Ritchie's first grade class as a Father of the Week. This means that each week a father comes in to the classroom to talk about his job and answer questions. However, Ritchie is NOT happy about his honor, as all he knows is that his dad works in an office and types...which sure doesn't sound very interesting. And, when Rob thinks about what he'll say and rehearses, he, too, is stumped about what to say without boring the kids. Fortunately, it all comes off very well when instead of lecturing he just acts 'funny' and talks to the kids about comedy.
This is an enjoyable program and gives Dick Van Dyke a nice opportunity to once again show off his acting and comedic skills. A cute program and one that certainly is unique.
