Checkmate's next to last episode finds the organization employed by Ilka Chase who runs a host group of young women called the Gardenia Girls out of a San Francisco hotel. The women serve as 'hosts' for the various organizations that have conventions at said hotel.
One of them is Susan Kohner and she's been forced though were never really told how by Chase's assistant Don Dubbins into a blackmail racket. We do know she lives near the fishing docks with her tyrannical father Joe DeSantis. How Dubbins got her participation in his scheme is left up in the air.
Sad to say this episode is not well constructed as to character motivation. I also could not believe this scheme could have gone on for any appreciable length of time without someone squawking long before Checkmate got involved.
