This was an interesting Bonanza episode which would have been better served by a two hour format. We could have gotten a few alternative suspects and we would have had a reason why Sam Greene wanted to pick a quarrel with the Cartwrights. But pick one he did when he and another man waylaid Victor Sen Yung in Lou Frizzell's livery stable and cut off his pigtail.

Hop Sing is ashamed to go back without said pigtail and Dan Blocker, Michael Landon, and David Canary split up to find him. It's Little Joe who find Hop Sing and settles with Sam Greene. But when Greene turns up dead it's Little Joe who's arrested and tried for his murder.

But it's Hop Sing who provides the evidence that clears Little Joe and as a bonus names his real murderer. Won't say what it is, but the Chinese knew about this long before we civilized westerners did.

Dick Foran plays Little Joe's high priced defense lawyer who doesn't get what Hop Sing is trying to do, but goes with the flow. He even let's Dan Blocker act as his mouthpiece and do the examining and cross examining of witnesses. Not exactly proper procedure, but it does give Dan Blocker what every actor wants, a courtroom drama.

Nice story, but it should have been better developed and a two parter would have done the trick.
