Gripping and disturbing
Tweekums10 December 2010
Warning: Spoilers
After a long time thinking that the Galactica is the only surviving battlestar the crew have quite a surprise when the Battlestar Pegasus turns up. At first everybody is overjoyed but soon they start to hear about how Admiral Cain runs her ship; the XO tells Col. Tigh how Cain killed his predecessor, he then claims it was a joke but Tigh isn't so sure. It certainly isn't a joke how they have treated their Cylon prisoner; she has clearly been violently and we later learn sexually abused. As Cain is the highest-ranking officer she takes command of the fleet and starts to transfer crew-members between the ships. The members of Pegasus' crew who have been transferred to Galactica start to boast about what they did to their Cylon prisoner and about what they intend to do to Sharon… this leads to Helo and Chief Tyrol rushing to her rescue, they find one of Pegasus' officers attempting to rape her. What happens next leads to their arrest and puts the two battlestars on a collision course as Adama is determined to free his men.

This was one of the most gripping episodes to date even though it isn't full of spectacular action. The way the Pegasus' crew act is both shocking and disturbing. Michelle Forbes gives a fantastic performance as Admiral Cain leaving the viewer in no doubt that she will do whatever she feels is necessary to run her ship, whether that is morally acceptable in a decent society or not. While this isn't officially a multipart episode it does end with the words '…to be continued' and certainly left this viewer eager to find out what happened next!

High octane drama
gritfrombray-11 May 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Was thrilled when I saw the Battlestar Pegasus as I loved the original show which featured the Pegasus in two episodes. When Admiral Cain, (played by a little too young Michelle Forbes but with relish!) comes aboard and throws her authority around the drama really moves into high gear! The differences in the way the two ships ran from what is discussed between the officers could have been explored a bit more though... However, when Pegasus's interrogation officer attempts a rape of Sharon Valleri who is in a holding cell on Galactica I was in shock that the show could be this brave! Two of Galactica's men stop the rape and end up killing Pegasus's man and are sentenced to death, another brave step forward for the show. This episode was one of the best of a brilliant second season. There is an extended version of this on the DVD box set which explains a lot of Admiral Cain's rise to the Admiralty and should not be missed!!

Difficult episode
Jackbv12328 August 2018
I won't argue the quality of this episode. Frankly, I can't even begin to judge that.

I will say, this is one of the most difficult to watch episodes in a series that is already full of things that are difficult to watch.

I personally have a problem with sadistic and brutal rape and torture of women. In this episode it is clear that at least one woman has been subjected to that. It doesn't matter that the assumption is that she is "a machine". I presume the obvious idea is that we compare the treatment of Cylons in this fiction to that of any of a number of minorities in real life. If that's how are supposed to see it, then that makes it all the more disturbing.

This program has show humankind in a bad light since the first episode. Torture, beatings, and murder are the failings of humanity which justifies similar behavior by Cylon humanoids especially 6 and Leobon (to date). This episode is the crowning example of this and as I said it is difficult to watch.

Another oustanding episode
gridoon20245 April 2018
Almost every episode of "Battlestar Galactica" has its own separate theme: in this one, it's dehumanized military vs. human military, warts and all. It is remarkable how quickly the "dream" turns into a nightmare. Intense and involving, leading to what promises to be an epic confrontation. ***1/2 out of 4.

Where's Sheba?!?
ohroonoko13 November 2021
Sheba was the Pegasus CAG and Admiral Cain's daughter in the original series. Her Viper skills rivaled Apollo's and she was an even match with Starbuck. She would stay on the show even after the Pegasus disappeared (was destroyed?). Too bad they couldn't make a place for a reimagined Sheba in the new series.

Powerful episode depicting the horrors of power corruption
elsiebobek30 April 2024
This is a strong episode filled with more spiritual (particularly Biblical, i.e. Admiral Cain) references.

It comes shortly after D'Anna Biers' documentary that originally sought to portray the crew of Battlestar Galactica as callous, monstrous and lacking a conscience. In this episode, with the introduction of the Pegasus, we see what that would actually look like.

The abuse of prisoners is realistically depicted in all its hideousness. It's painful to watch and important to see to understand these things aren't just happening in a sci fi show but still happen every day because people like Cain and her aubordinates still exists in places of power. To criticize showing reality is misguided.

I'm also amused by the opinion that the two crews couldn't be different because they had the same schooling. REALLY. Here's a great example: Donald Trump (who needs no further introduction) is a Wharton graduate, but so is fashion entrepreneur Anand Ahuja. I think few would disagree that the two could not BE more different from each other.

Pegasus
Prismark1018 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Some people pointed out the disturbing and degrading treatment of the female cylons in this episode. This includes repeated sexual assaults on one of them and an attempted rape of another while being interrogated.

What is not mentioned that this behaviour mirrored the abuse of Iraqi detainees in the Abu Ghraib prison around that time. This included physical and sexual abuse, torture, rape, sodomy and murder.

Battlestar Pegasus led by Admiral Cain turns up to the surprise of Galactica. Everyone is overjoyed but President Roslin learns that Adama is outranked by Cain. She is in overall charge.

Colonel Tigh finds out some disturbing information as to how Cain runs her ship, which includes killing the XO for disobeying a command.

In short Pegasus was run as a dictatorship. It also had no respect for any type of rights.

Helo and Chief Tyrol find out that Sharon will be interrogated by a Pegasus officer. This will include torture and sexual abuse. They try to stop it.

Adama finds that justice in the Pegasus is in effect a kangaroo court.

In effect Adama and Cain are on a collision course. Note the Biblical allusions to both the names.

Cain reminds Adama that he too has gone off grid as she looked at Galactica's logs. However Cain has certainly departed from the rules in an enhanced way.

The episode leads to a two parter story. It is going to be a civil war.

Trigger Warning: Sexual Violence
frejaya1 October 2020
Deeply disturbing episode that will be especially hard for those affected by sexual violence.

Cheap, cliche tactic used on TV and in movies to ramp up drama and toy with our emotions. Literally does nothing to further the plot or story, adds nothing to the quality of the show. Lazy.

What?
bsimpson1897 February 2022
The crew of Pegasus and Galactica behave quite differently. Too different. Did they all not attend the same military training? Same planet? Similar culture?
