When "Barnaby Jones" was launched by Quinn Martin, the studio used its other popular show of the day, "Cannon" to launch the Buddy Ebsen series. It was a two-parter and introduced Jones and gave his back story. Now, the fourth season of "Barnaby Jones" also began similarly...with a two-parter...with one part airing on "Cannon" and the other on "Barnaby Jones". It was cross-promotion at its finest. Part One of "Deadly Conspiracy" aired on "Cannon" and the two-parter ended on "Barnaby Jones".
The story is about an evil corporation where the guy in charge (Barry Sullivan) is bent on profits...and killing anyone who gets in his way. What the detectives need to know and prove is WHY....why are they killing so many people? The highlight of part-two, for me, was the evil and very violent secretary...she was incredible!
Overall, like the prior episode, a very good, engaging and bloody two-parter...well worth seeing and memorable.
By the way, this and part one talk about 'aversion therapy'...a method to supposedly untrain various negative behaviors, such as drinking and sexual abuse. In hindsight, it was not particularly effective...something we know now but didn't know then.
