BEWARE OF THE CONNORS SISTERS!
tcchelsey19 February 2024
This was a VERY campy episode back in the day, and I'll never forget it. The episode was so popular that actresses Cassie Yates and Mary Ann Chin returned in the same roles. That was a first.

True, it's over the top, but played like a dark comedy, courtesy of Leo Penn, Sean Penn's famous dad, who directed so many classic tv shows. Gerald Sanford wrote the story, lead writer for CHIPS.

Cassie plays Ruby and Mary Ann plays Pearl, two gals from the south, trying to make it in the music biz in Hollywood. Get it? It's a tough road, and they ain't the best singers --so what to do? Steal and kill to finance their career. Sounds logical if you're insane! Actually, this is a very familiar story, re-vamped with these two eccentric characters.

I do agree with the last reviewer, the men who come into their lives are not too smart... perhaps the way it was designed to make you wonder, what in the heck is going on. One thing for sure, it will keep your attention because Ruby and Pearl are that daring, if not outrageous. Reminiscent of a few HAWAII FIVE O episodes that had similar-type killers with family ties.

Special guest star is Chris Robinson, star of two soap operas, GENERAL HOSPITAL and the BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL.

This one keeps Barnaby and, especially, JR, busy. It may have been written for JR's character, obviously for a younger audience. We sure talked about it in high school.

Cassie Yates, quite popular on tv at the time, came to Hollywood as a hair dresser and at one time was owner, with her husband, of the famous Cat and Fiddle Club in Hollywood. A beautiful place. Mary Ann Chinn, who appeared on tv in the 70s and 80s, made her debut on the MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW.

The Connors sisters will return! SEASON 5 remastered CBS/Paramount dvd box set.

Embarrassing

Horrible singing and worse acting. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but these girls were just not knock-outs. Everyone in this story kept gushing about how pretty and beautiful they were, which was just embarrassing. Everyone also kept telling them they could sing, even though they didn't believe it, again, because they were such knock-outs! Ugh.

The story itself was ridiculous; there wasn't really much to it, and I have never seen so many stupid people in one show. The girls weren't the brightest bulbs, but every single man was dumber than a box of rocks. According to this show, men are all just horny and stupid, which is a little offensive. A definitely skippable episode.

It's amazing how long it took to convict these sisters considering they weren't all that smart.

"Duet for Dying" is a very poor episode of "Barnaby Jones". I think it was intended to be funny, but bad acting by the guest stars really made this one a tough sell for me.

The story begins with a lady cavorting in a pool with an older man. You can understand why the younger lady is interested in him when it turns out her sister is in the man's apartment ransacking the place for some valuable coin collection. Unfortunately, he returns to the room to early and the sister is caught. A fight ensues and the ladies kill him...and take his coins as well.

It turns out these sisters have one goal in life....to be famous professional singers. They kill and steal and feel no sense of guilt...and later, they kill again...all to further their ambitions.

Throughout the episode, you hear man after man say how beautiful these ladies were. Well, I know this won't sound very nice, but if you want to describe them this way, make sure they actually ARE good looking and not the two most annoying characters I can ever recall on the show. Now had the men described them as bad actresses playing annoying characters, that I could have agreed with...wholeheartedly. Two very dumb ladies and a couple very dumb guys...an episode should not rely so heavily on folks being dumber than tomatoes.

By the way, I find it hard to believe but these same two sisters would appear in another episode during season 5! Apparently SOMEONE from the show thought these dopey sisters were great characters.

This was quite terrible. Low budget cart. Trrrible acting. The girls can't sing or act for that matter. Not up to Barnaby Jones standards.
