An ex con just released from the joint is killed in the street at dark. Before dying, he asked his daughter to call a friend of his. But this man was after a bullion hidden after the jewelry exchange heist for which he was sent to jail. Baretta and his crew will have to find the friend of the diseased, a young con too, played here by Tommy Lee Jones in his early years. So, to get information from the friend still in the can, Baretta will have to impersonate himself as a jail bird, so that he can receive the dead man's friend confidence. Well It will appear that things were not as they seemed to be at first sight. An insurance investigator is the real mastermind, the evil mastermind who plans the whole thing: robbery, hoods arrest and the murder of the one who was released from jail.
