Are You Afraid of the Dark is known to have many stories that can be scary, even if it is for a younger (but not so young) audience. Note that the newer ones are much more scarier and are anthologies compared to these older ones, but this one in particular, The Tale of The Long Ago Locket, is a fantasy based one based on history that isn't a scary story. It's about a boy named Jimmy who has a crush on a girl named April, and doesn't care much for history, until one day as he walked through the woods something happened. He met a soldier from another timeline who at first ran away from him, then it got weirder. There were soldiers wearing fancy British outfits from a very old timeline chasing the other solider but went after Jimmy as well. The soldier's name is Lt. William and he wants to get back to Harrisville, however Jimmy has no idea where that can be. The soldiers come back and want to capture Lt. William and back in his own time, Jimmy decides to look through his history book, when he finds out that the woods somehow has a crack between the past and present, and that today was when Lt. William was going to get executed he rushed out to help him, and he borrows his friend's boombox to distract the enemy soldiers and save Lt. William, and also was able to help him find his way to Harrisville to meet with his girlfriend. Lt. William told Jimmy that he should tell April how he feels about her before he left. April then seen in surprise of the markings on the tree of Lt. William and his love, and Jimmy was happy that he made it to Harrisville in time, and gave April the special locket. It is really a great story, and one of the best not so scary stories on Are You Afraid of the Dark.
