Solid episode; you can't run away from the past

Warning: Spoilers
Pete Cregar is looking for revenge; his two partners got away while he went to prison. Snowden is caught first. Pete, Snowden, and Pat McGrath were partners in a robbery but only Cregar served time. Snowden says McGrath has changed. His wife died leaving him a baby to bring up; he left robbing behind and settled down in Mesa Grande. Snowden pulls a gun, McGrath alone is traveling to Mesa Grande.

McGrath, now Martin, is running a freight company in Mesa Grande and just won an army contract. His son Jimmy is about Rusty's age. Rusty finds Jimmy playing with a real pistol, and Rusty tells him to put it down. Rinnie pulls Jimmy down as the gun goes off. Jimmy's dad is angry but Jimmy is somewhat unapologetic, he will wear two guns when he grows up. Martin is now opposed to guns and Jimmy thinks his dad is a coward.

Creager rides into town and shoots up the sign stating no guns in town. When Jimmy finds out the cowpoke is Pete Cregar, he's impressed. The man has a reputation. Marshal Pres Cole rides into town with Snowden's body. Martin recognizes the body. The Marshal is following Cregar. He and two other men robbed Wells Fargo ten years ago, Cregar served eight years. The Marshal figures by following Cregar, he'd find his partners. He found one, now he's looking for McGrath (Martin).

McGrath is still in town in the saloon. Jimmy is watching him the window when Cregar asks him in. Cregar wants Jimmy to tell the sheriff that he will leave town as soon as McGrath shows himself. Jimmy is excited that there might be a gunfight. The sheriff knows he should go into the saloon and get Cregar's gun, but he's scared. The sheriff does go into the saloon to get Jimmy, but Cregar has learned Jimmy had no ma and was raised by his dad. Cregar figures Jimmy's dad is his man.

If the sheriff wants his gun, then come in alone with hands high. Jimmy refuses to leave, he likes his new friend Pete. Rip suggests the town council make a decision as to what to do, and Martin is head of the council. Rinnie and Rusty find Martin about to leave town. Rusty tells Martin that Jimmy is with Cregar. Now Martin puts his gun on, he has to get his son, even if the Marshal arrests him after rescuing Jimmy. He has no choice, Martin tells Rusty, he's been trying to run away from his own shadow; you can't do that.

Martin goes looking for his old partner. It looks like it's going to be a gunfight. Cregar draws but wasn't fast enough. The Marshal arrests Martin, he will return someday, but prison for now. Until then Jimmy will stay with the sheriff.

Unusual episode. Nothing much for Rinty to do; and a gun fighter ballad runs throughout the episode.
