Cheap Barney
sacerongray-962086 April 2018
This show was a total ripoff of Barney the purple dinosaur. The songs and acting and kids were so annoying on this show. I give it a 3 to show it mercy because the kids in this deserve better.

Cheap Rip Off of Barney.
LadyS_200224 September 2010
Ricky's Room is a cheap and obvious rip off of Barney the Dinosaur. If you change Barney to a hippo and his purple colour to blue, you have Ricky from Ricky's room. It is exactly like Barney except the kids are even more annoying, the writing is even worse. The songs are all simply pathetic. The lessons they learn are very basic even for kids, do you really need to spend a whole hour just to teach them several times to pick up their things? Maybe but could you at least do it in a creative way instead of having poorly singing kids shouting "picking up my things picking up my things yay!!!!" The poor people in the suits have no idea what they're doing, it is as if they told them to just dance and move around and then later made up whatever dialogue they wanted to and songs and who cares if they're moving appropriately or not, just stick words over it. This show seems like it was written in five minutes on a napkin AFTER it was taped on the way home in the car from the studio. Did I say studio? More like this show was taped in one of those kid's parents' basement.

Not Good

I feel really bad for the kids who are stuck in this show. It's just a rip off of Barney where they don't even care about actually making a good show at all. The music is all awful and the same and everyone is pretty much just standing there waiting to cash out at the end of the day. So boring and bad. Shame on whatever con artist ripped off Barney and made these kids look so bad, you could have at least cared about quality a tiny bit.

Blah!

Ricky's Room is a cheap and obvious rip off of Bear in the Big Blue House. If you change Bear to a rhino, you have Ricky from Ricky's Room. It is exactly like BITBBH except there are real kids interacting with the characters, the writing is even worse. The songs all simply make you want to puke in your soup. The lessons they learn are very basic even for kids, do you really need to spend a whole hour just to teach them several times to pick up their things? Maybe but could you at least do it in a creative way like Sesame Street instead of having poorly singing kids shouting "picking up my things, picking up my things yay!!!!" The poor people in the suits have no idea what they're doing, it is as if they told them to just be happy and dance and/or move around all the time and then later made up whatever dialogue they wanted to and songs and who cares if they're moving appropriately or not, just stick words over it. This show seems like it was written in five minutes on a napkin AFTER it was taped on the way home in the car from the studio. Did I say studio? Rickys Room? More like AWESOME ROOM.

Warning: Spoilers
Ricky's Room is the quintessential children's program of my generation! The writing is masterful. The set is breathtaking (seriously, how did they build this thing?). The music is up there with John William's score to Star Wars. The kids are surprisingly wonderful actors with real futures in show business. The portrayal of Harold the Hippo is one of the greatest performances in TV, equal only to Bryan Cranston's Walter White. Ricky is one of the deepest characters in all of media. His nuanced representation of George W. Bush at a time when the war on terror was at its peak was fantastic and reminiscent of Marlon Brando's portrayal of Don Corleone. If I was to have one gripe with the show, it would be Niki's performance. I just don't believe her as a rhino. But the incredible story about life, death, religion, politics, family, war and crime more than makes up for it. Ricky's Matrix-like story arc in Season 3 was especially intriguing. The bottom line is, if you like great performances, writing, production value and a deep and interesting story in your TV shows, you need to watch Ricky's Room.

SPOILER ALERT!*!*!*!*!: The plot twist where it turns out Ricky was behind the murder of John Lennon was incredible. I was not expecting that in the slightest and it made for a great series finale.
