Unsung heroes of Canadian comedy return huge
justcurious1-110 March 2006
The most underrated comedy troupe of the 80's returned after a 20 year absence from TV. Their hilarious 1985 show, 4 on the Floor, lasted only 13 episodes but lived on, on thousands of beta tapes. I was a bit nervous about their Reunion special. 20 years is a long time. I didn't know how funny they would be, but right from the opening animation I did not have to worry. What an unbelievably funny show. It was an hour-long special, not a very forgiving format for sketch comedy, but in what seemed like a blink of an eye it was over. It went by so fast; Jason Mahooch the Master of Disguise, Mr. Canoehead, Boot to the Head guy, unbelievable. The Frantics do something no other sketch troupe does, they keep their sketches short and they all have clear beginnings, a satisfying buildup and an attention to punchlines. They are like long lost artisans of an art form everyone else has forgotten how to ply, except the fantastic Frantics.
