Great opportunity to learn about a legend!!
efewebber4 November 2005
Warning: Spoilers
The figure of Camaron has long deserved to have a good movie made of it, the greatest voice of flamenco, a great "cantaor" that revolutionized flamenco and whose life ended tragically.

The movie is worth seeing for those who want to see Camaron and enjoy his art and have a rough approach to his life. The actor who plays Camaron, a fellow from Barcelona apparently, is very convincing in the role, even though he is synchronized with the original voice in the singing scenes. Some roles are also nice to see, Paco de Lucia, Tomatito, "La Chispa" (what a pleasure to see Veronica Sanchez on screen, so lively and beautiful), and specially his relation to his friend Lucas.

The only things I missed were dates and places, when was he born? when did he go to Madrid? and so on, no explicit dates are given along the movie which would help frame Camaron in the recent history of Spain.

To me, and I really like Camaron, it was definitely worth seeing, a couple of hours in the life of the genius, with his music and the guitar of Tomate and Paco de Lucia, following his first steps in Madrid ... but somehow I still think there is a better movie to be made of such a star!!

Not bad,but not good
pedrosmgfan12 May 2006
For some people this film can be a good opportunity of knowing more about Camarón de la Isla, and it is true. But I do not believe that those people say that this film is great. And it is not.

It summarizes the life of this man, but one hour and average to see singing this man is a complete boredom. The film in itself is boring, at least does not entertain to all the one that sees it, not me, because I do not like the flamenco and I do not believe that in the future I would like it. The actor who plays Camarón, Óscar Jaenada, does it very very well. His actuation is amazing. All the other actors of the film make either their work very good (like the actor who plays Paco de Lucía,too) and they are very well characterized, except the actress who plays Camarón's wife, Verónica Sánchez. She is not very credible as La Chispa. She is the only actress of this movie that does not act very good. Of the others, the clothes and the make up are in favor very well.

In summary, see it if Camarón interests to you and if it does not interest to you,do not see it. I don't recommend it.

Boring
dcldan4 March 2007
The movie is about the life of Camarón, probably the best flamenco singer ever: How he starts in music, acknowledgement by public and early death due to cancer. In fact he movie is quite boring, almost anything happens but the main character singing. At any moment the plot is interesting (unless you are Camarón's supporter) and many of the characters are totally empty: for example Veronica Sanchez play as Camaron's wife, or the character of Camaron's best friend, which though important, are not very well build. The only good thing is Óscar Jaenada, he proves that when he wants, can act very well (a Goya totally deserved). His acting is outstanding and it is by far, the only reason to watch these movie, that is perhaps, too long for the things to tell. There are many better films, and except by Jaenada, it has anything good.

A must see!!

Warning: Spoilers
I was a little concerned about this movie, because the treatment you can give to a legend. I have to admit I just loved it from the beginning to the end. I enjoyed the music (which is real recordings from Camaron, Tomatito and Lucia). It tells the human side of a great legend of the Flamenco. I just only regret I couldn't see it on the big screen. The actors are very well characterized and the resemblance with the real Camaron and Paco de Lucia is just amazing. I wonder how many tapes did he watch to learn all the movements and expressions. I think is just a great job. I have to say it doesn't tell you any chronography. No dates and no places at all. In that aspect is very vague. You can tell is not back to "La Isla" (San Fenando, Cadiz), because he calls his Mom and he is living in a Pension (small hostel). Didn't know he had a paya (non gypsy) girlfriend for a while. It's a must see movie, if you want to know a big part of Flamenco History. I just can't wait for the next flamenco movie, and I hope they do a good job, and treat the other legend (Lola Flores, Jerez, 1923-Madrid 1995) with the same respect they treated Camaron.
