A while back, it was announced that David Lee Fisher was creating an innovative reimagining of Nosferatu. Now we know who'll be playing the iconic movie monster.
According to Variety, Fisher has tapped famous German expressionist Doug Jones to inhabit the role. Jones is known for his work in Guillermo del Toro films like Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth. He also worked with Fisher the last time the director remade a classic silent horror film.
Jones is certainly no stranger to donning prosthetics and transforming into strange creatures, and there's perhaps no more beloved a creature in cinematic history than Nosferatu. The character's debut in the 1922 silent horror film Nosferatu is considered to be the first ever vampire movie. To this day, it's considered a horror classic.

One of my favorite vampires films of all time is the very first one ever made, 1922's F.W. Murnau’s Nosferatu, which features an insanely creepy vampire by the name of Count Orlock. Murnau originally wanted to make an adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, but the Stoker estate shut him down, so he basically made his own unauthorized version of the story. If you haven't seen it yet, you need to check it out. It’s a beautifully terrifying film.
Director David Lee Fisher wants to do what he calls a “remix” of the movie, which will star none other than Doug Jones, who you know from films such as Hellboy, The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and Pan's Labyrinth, to play Count Orlack. According to Jones, this is a role that he has always wanted to play, and there’s no doubt that he would be amazing.

Just in time for its 40th year anniversary, Shout Factory has amassed a glorious Blu-ray remastering of Brian De Palma’s 1974 classic, Phantom of the Paradise. A glam-rock musical that’s enjoyed a sizeable cult following after an initial muted theatrical release, it represents the filmmaker’s most enjoyable attempt at comedy in this vintage satire about consumerism vs. creative control.
On the eve of unveiling his glam rock palace The Paradise, cutthroat music mogul Swan is struggling with how to open with just the right song to be performed by doo-wop group the Juicy Fruits (modeled after Sha Na Na). When Swan hears the music of aspiring singer songwriter Winslow Leach (William Finely, a De Palma regular), he decides he wants his music, an epic cantata modernizing Faust, but not the man. After his tunes are stolen, the songwriter tries to barge his way into Swan’s rehearsals but is thrown out,...

There may not be a more beloved actor in the horror/sci-fi genre than Doug Jones. With an impressive resume that includes some of the most amazing F/X creations ever captured on film, Jones has the uncanny ability to breathe extraordinary life into the most beautiful of characters.
Recently Doug Jones sat down with Dread Central to discuss his current projects.
Jones was featured as the enigmatic Roger North in John Dies at the End, which premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival. "This is the film adaptation of the very popular book John Dies at the End," Jones said. "Don Coscarelli adapted it for film, and he directed as well. He's a genre favorite, and we were all in good hands with him."
Jones joined an impressive cast for John Dies at the End. "I star alongside Paul Giamatti and Clancy Brown. Newcomers Chase Williamson and Rob Mayes are the two lead kids,...

You may remember from back in November, 2009 an anthology series called As Darkness Falls created by John Alsedek. It has been picked up for distribution by publisher Speaking Volumes, but that's just the beginning. Now Alsedek is taking aim at the TV market with three different series currently being pitched, all of which would be filmed in high contrast black & white.
From the Press Release:
During the ‘Golden Age of Television’, fans of the horror, sci-fi & fantasy genres were treated to a cavalcade of programs that would go on to become legends. "The Twilight Zone", "The Outer Limits", and "Alfred Hitchcock Presents", as well as lesser-known shows such as Boris Karloff’s "Thriller" (named by Stephen King as “the best horror series ever on TV”), left millions of viewers in utter awe on a weekly basis…and a great deal of the reason for that was because the programs were filmed in black & white.
