Artsy Korean Dark Drama
joeshoe8924 September 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Okay first off this movie is dark. Not just dark in tone but just plain dark. It's divided into 2 parts. The 1st part is titled Thirty. A man and woman who I think at some point establish they are thirty seem to rob people and have sex in a very dark room say things like: "I'm hungry. Let's do nothing. Nothing but sex." At one point we get to watch a janitor at a train station clean up for about 6 minutes or so. Again in the dark. It ends with the couple being shot by someone I have no idea who or why. The second part is called Nineteen. Another man and woman meet and once again agree they are both nineteen. I think they also have sex but it's so dark I can't be sure exactly who is having sex and can barely see what is happening. I think the girl tells the guy something like: "Take my yellow panties in consideration of what you've done for me" Then he shoots her but again it's very dark and I'm not sure what happens but it just kind of freezes on her standing there bleeding. Does she die? What does this mean? If you like IFC or Sundance this is probably right up your alley. Very little dialog. I'm sure it's highly regarded. Dark. Dark. Dark.

Unfortunately, the film did not like, a film of few words but with a lot of sex. He did not leave me anything

I visited this film and I did not like Warning do not want to totally throw in the trash this film certainly is a valuable work of an art-house films, but the fact is that the film does not fall within the canons of my personal tastes. The film lasts shortly and is slow very slow, there is plenty of sex scenes and a few dialogues. This may seem like a Yellow Flower imitation of Ping Japanese Eiga, and I repeat: It would seem, but the director really wants to explore other issues, I understand that sex in this film is a way of communicating. Honestly I understood very little, and blessed are those who have learned to appreciate and understand the essence, unfortunately for myself was not so, even after the vision of Yellow Flower, in sincerity did not leave me anything, except that it made me feel empty inside and an incredible pessimism.

Waste of time

I rented this DVD because I like Korean films generally. Unfortunately, this is a mess of a film; it resembled a student filmmaker's work-in-progress. It was apparently originally shot on 16 mm, and, judging by the graininess and the on-screen opaqueness (particularly watching it at home), it was transferred poorly.

This film apparently caused a big ruckus in Korea when it first appeared because of its sexual content, and it is billed in a number of places as 'hardcore,' which it isn't, unless there's a steamy bootleg copy somewhere. This is a snorefest; more than half the film is composed of simulated sex symbolizing (I think) the emptiness of life. You've seen this same premise, and same movie, more than a few times before.

This flick is hard to follow. It somehow got lost in trying to tell a story of existential angst, and settled instead for softcore silliness. Jeez, even the sex scenes are redundantly tedious. How bad is that?
