This is a very unusual short film. It begins with an older lady (Le Clanché du Rand) who is in bed with her books. You hear her voice as she talks about her lonely life without a man and her longing for love. Then, the camera switches to a coffee shop as she continues to narrate. The camera focuses on an older single man as she begins to talk about him and how he cannot seem to see that there are vital and available women his age all about him. Instead, he looks to a younger woman to fill the void left by his deceased wife. All the while, the other women just look on...and hope...and wait...and eventually give up hope of being desired by another.
As you probably could guess from my description, the film is incredibly sad but also quite perceptive. Plus, as these women generally ARE invisible, this film is one of the rare ones to actually address them and their quiet desperation. As for the narrator, she was very, very good with her sophisticated delivery and I was left feeling saddened but also admiring the film for tackling the subject and doing so in such a touching way.
