Imagine having to relive the same day for an undisclosed period of time. Now imagine if that day was filled with snotty, self-obsessed, failed Mean Girls prototypes. Cringing yet? Then you’ll loooove Before I Fall, a Ya adaption that misrepresents the easiest of messages. Themes are simple – be excellent to one another! Except in order to do so, characters must first act like morally reprehensible, astonishingly plastic high school stereotypes. Because, redemption? Except director Ry Russo-Young resets the same day ad nauseum, so what’s to say characters change based on one freaky Friday? And then there’s – sorry, wait. I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s start small.
Wow – what the hell did I just watch?
Zoey Deutch stars as Samantha Kingston, a privileged suburban teenager who takes life for granted. Her squad of betches live it up like queen bees, kissing the hottest boys and attending the raddest parties.

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: Which current TV couple is giving you relationship goals?
Todd VanDerWerff (@tvoti), Vox
Whenever people ask me what TV show is the best currently running, my go-to answer is “The Americans” for a variety of reasons (it’s really that good, it’s one most people haven’t seen, etc.). But a big reason for that is thanks to the sterling marriage of Philip and Elizabeth Jennings, whose icy cold love fills my heart with joy. Think about it: When the series began, these two spies were just pretending to have a functional relationship — only to have realized that their pretending was essentially the same as something real.

Harold Ramis certainly didn’t invent it, but his Groundhog Day made the narrative loop device a mainstream mainstay, lovingly aped in everything from Source Code to Edge of Tomorrow to 50 First Dates. In Before I Fall, the loop treatment is utilized rather intelligently by director Ry Russo-Young, from Maria Maggenti screenplay adapted from Lauren Oliver‘s novel.
It’s February 12th, and high school senior Samantha Kingston (Zoey Deutch) is excited for what Cupid Day may bring. They are popular and pretty, but mean and petty. Sam’s got the hunky jock boyfriend, Rob (Kian Lawley), who doesn’t care and the clever childhood friend, Kent (Logan Miller), who really cares. Last weekend I was at the Geek’d Con in Rockford, Illinois. It was a small first time con and it had some things to work out, but over all it went okay.
I really enjoyed the fans but, for me, the big moment was when my niece, Julie Adams, showed up with her husband Rob and their three kids, Rachel, Hailey, and Ryan. They even sat in on the Q&A panel I did on Saturday and, bless ‘em, asked some questions themselves. And, as is typical with kids and especially kids who are relatives, a question or two were tough to answer.
The big one I was asked (by Hailey, as I recall) was, “Which of your characters is your favorite?” Deceptively simple, that question. “That’s like asking a parent which is their favorite child,” I replied, glancing at Julie and Rob. Both grimaced.

Scott also authored the He’s So/She’s So trilogy, published by Simon and Schuster, and the Non-Blonde Cheerleaders series and Geek Magnet, both published by Penguin. The A-For-Effort-Award Goes To…: NBC for their live airing of The Sound Of Music, which featured fantastic musical performances and acting that was… um… did we mention the fantastic musical performances?
Best Spittake: Eli’s reaction to a single word — “Peter” — capped a near-perfect episode of The Good Wife.
Creepiest Ad Campaign: Commercials featuring a whole lotta rats freaking people out aired during The Walking Dead but gave no indication of what they were promoting. We now know it was for the upcoming frightfest The Strain.
Most Desperate Move: How does an increasingly irrelevant reality show like The Real World compete with its flashier, younger brethren? By pulling a cheap stunt like having people move into a house only to later learn that their exes will be moving in as well.
Funniest Reaction: Upon learning that Robin was the latest Port Charles resident to turn up alive, General Hospital’s Silas quipped,...

South Park wrapped up the first half of its 16th season with Eric Cartman playing an unlikely role, matchmaker, in "Cartman Finds Love."
Yes, there's a new girl at South Park Elementary named Nicole and Cartman decides that he wants to get her together with Token, because he loves love and that's completely in his character.
Or... it's because Nicole is black just like Token and Cartman is a horrible racist. So, of course, he decides to try and get the two of them together by locking them in the gym with board games, grape soda, a deli tray and massage oil. Just like he did with the other two minority students in South Park.
Cartman has been willing to go to extreme lengths to get what he wants done (Scott Tenorman, anyone?) but nothing seemed as unlikely as him pretending that he was in a gay relationship with Kyle...

What year am I in? That’s what I kept thinking when watching these clips. I felt like I was seeing a storyline from 1999, not 2012. I realize that gays are still being bashed today all over the world, but it was just the mood and the way the story was told that seemed like a throwback. Or maybe it was more that River City has been telling the stories of gay characters for many years – some of them quite progressive – so this story seemed antiquated and out of place.
To be fair, the story wasn’t badly told and there were some nice touches, especially the older woman who told Robbie about her gay friend. It said there have always been gays around and there have always been those who love and support them. And it was nice how Robbie’s friends rallied around him.

Cher Lloyd reportedly changed her song at the last minute today.
The X Factor finalist was supposed to be singing a Will / Willow Smith mash up but after realising that it wasn’t working, both she and her mentor Cheryl Cole decided that she would do a fusion of 369 by Cupid ft B.o.B and Get Your Freak On by Missy Elliot.
It was a risky move and we found ourselves quite nervous when she took to the stage tonight.
Cher started her performance standing on the judges table, she then hopped onto the stage and at the beginning, her vocal was a little dodgy. She picked up as the rendition went on but for us, it was a weird choice of songs and we didn’t like any of the 369 segments. She put on the best stage show of the night, but as mash ups go, it wasn’t one of her best.

.Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. wowed the crowd at the recently held Comic-Con in San Diego. Since then, the geeks are proclaiming it one of the most original films this summer. You can call me a geek because I unequivocally agree.
Based on a graphic novel by Bryan Lee O.Malley, .Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. tells the story of Scott Pilgrim played by Michael Cera. He.s 23 years old, in a rock band, .between jobs,. and dating a cute high school girl named Knives Chau (Ellen Wong).
But trouble arises when Scott crosses paths with Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), a roller-blading delivery girl who starts entering his dreams. But in order to win her heart, Scott must first defeat her seven evil ex-lovers.
Love is the focus of the film. Romance is told using a superhero template which makes the movie hip and sweet at the same time.

This should tell you how long it takes for some projects to get off the ground. The first time we wrote about a Judge Dredd movie (not a remake, but a more faithful rendering of the outstanding comic series) was in 2008, when Dustin first discussed it. Since then, we've learned who the writer is -- Alex Garland, Danny Boyle's writing partner. Excellent choice. The script is, from what I hear, very good, described by The Playlist as "action-heavy" and "dark and gritty," and sort of a Die Hard set in the Blade Runner universe. Of course, this script is almost three years old now and is bound to go through some rewrites, but still -- Garland's presence was the first sign of hope for a character beloved by many a comic book reader. Considering how woefully slaughtered it was by Stallone's epically bad adaptation (directed by Danny "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer...

Best.Gay.Week.Ever? I don't think so. First, there was that Amazon.com kerfuffle where the online merchant began treating almost all books dealing with gay subject matter (even purely academic ones) as adult content — excluding many very worthy titles from their sales rankings system and standard searches.
One sad result? When you type in "homosexuality" as a search on Amazon, the results are skewed dramatically toward crap like this:
(Here's my bit of unsolicited advice to Amazon shoppers who might be interested in A Parent's Guide to Preventing Homosexuality: "Do everyone a favor and don't have kids!")
So what's going on here? On the surface, it sure looked like Amazon had adopted some sort of conservative policy to effectively bury positive gay representation on their site.
But then company spokespersons variously blamed it on a computer "glitch," and a "ham-fisted cataloging error" and made assurances they were working on a fix.

CBS is said to be eyeing a 13-episode order of a reality show featuring fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger. The project from Lions Gate Television is a competition-style series centered on the fashion world, according to sources. Craig Piligian will executive produce the project, sources said. The new Fox drama The O.C. posted solid numbers in its third outing Tuesday. NBC won the night by a wide margin with help from the 8-10 p.m. Shania Twain: Up concert special and the 10 p.m. repeat of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, which gave NBC the nightly win with an average of 9 million viewers and 3.3 rating/10 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. The Twain special built slowly but surely throughout its two-hour slot, starting out with 8 million viewers at 8 p.m. and finishing out with 9.4 million in the 9:30-10 p.m. half-hour. CBS won the opening hour of primetime with Big Brother 4 averaging 8.8 million viewers and 3.6/12 in the demo. At 9 p.m. however, CBS' Cupid (6.6 million, 2.9/8) didn't have much traction against Fox's The O.C., which delivered an average of 7.9 million viewers and 3.5/10 in adults 18-49 to Fox. That marked a big leap from its 8 p.m. American Juniors lead-in (5.2 million, 1.9/6). ABC ran fourth for the night (6.2 million, 2.2/7) with an 8-10 p.m. comedy block of reruns leading into an NYPD Blue rerun.
