Small film, with even smaller pretentions - but all in a good way
stanimir23 January 2004
In some way uncharacteristic Serbian post 90s film - not about war, not about politics, nor fight for democracy, crime etc - just plain, ordinary life love story.

Script introduces Irena (played by Ms.Zaric, daughter of one of the biggest Serbian TV-actor stars back in 70s) and Vlada (played by Mr.Toskovic - one of the promising young stars). They are facing their 30s and big decisions about their life together. And then Marija, internationally successful Vlada's old love comes to the picture...

Sounds almost too sloppy - but it's not. Directed by Milos Petricic (his first big film), "Almost totally ordinary story" is unpretentious, warm and optimistic film.

Sure, characters are unreal (especially Bane, so poorly played by Mr.Kapicic) and social scenery is somehow too much "pinkly", but strong point of this film is its director - Mr. Petricic. Member of generation of his characters himself, he showed that he totally understand how to tell the urban story, with a little bit of humor and romance, and of course happy-end (that even is not so corny, after all). He is promising author for sure, if I can spot one;)

Locally - this film is refreshment and worth watching (it's surely deserved better distributor, which could make 10 time more visitors in total score). Internationally - it won't have big festival life, because, as I said, it's not about war at all;)) and this is precisely what is expected of films from this part of the world.

film that doesn't have a plot
vilklajn29 July 2005
Summary of this film is, briefly: The main character, Vlada, thinks about cheating on his long-time girlfriend Irena with significantly better looking ex-girlfriend Marija, but at the end doesn't do anything and weds Irena. The plot is ridiculously unimaginative and trivial. Actors give very pale performances (especially Vlada and Irena - main characters). Their "love that conquers all" is unrecognizable - and the motivation of the main character (to remain faithful) is completely incomprehensible. Film is very static - nothing happens, characters remain the same throughout the movie because nothing happened. Really disappointing film - I would describe it as a TV movie for disappointed not-very-good-looking housewives who can identify themselves with the main character Irena and find hope and comfort on TV screen (if they can't do so in real live). Hope that their man isn't cheating and that they do have love even if it doesn't look so (even to themselves). I think that, for this target group, the movies that give realistic picture of human relations and maybe some inspiration - ideas how to improve that relations are much, much better. This is an east-European attempt to make a western movie - they should maybe stick to social and war themes.

Worst movie ever made in Serbia!
sleepery7 January 2008
What a boring pathetic crap!! I'm sorry there are no negative stars on this scale - it would be -10! Worst Serbian movie ever made and disgrace for Serbian cinematography. Actually I rather not call 'Serbian' at all, cause it's not! Lousy attempt of few boring mediocre amateurs to make romantic western melodrama in Belgrade. And they couldn't even make that... pathetic! Actors are catastrophic, boring, unconvincing, simply - faceless! Empty quasi-intellectual phrases that come from their mouths are nothing close to common Serbian language. Well certainly not from their mouths... But of course the most the 'credits' go to writer and director. I still can't believe that both for them are man?! What other message I could have for them then: change the job or change the country!!!

Movie is brilliant

I am totally mad about this movie. I have watched this movie for 5-6 times. And every time when I saw this movie, something new came up from that original dialogs that makes me to think that living with girlfriend is not a joke, and it's very serious issue. I totally don't agree with Vilklajn, because he don't know recent Serbian cinematography. When he find out all about ours recent movies, he will see that this movie is one of the best without huge production. Considering that this is firs directors movie, this is very good start. Everyone who watch this movie, will learn something new about life, and make his/hers life better at least for one day.

I think that this is one of the best Serbian movies ever!!! if you liked Chasing Amy, Sleep with me etc. you will enjoy watching this movie. I liked cast very much , and Bane - Stefan Kapicic was absolutely great!!! I heard that he won best young actor award for this movie, and I'm waiting to see something new by him!!!But i think that all the actors deserve awards.plot is very funny and it communicates with audience around the world. And big plus is that all actors are very handsome! Story is great, director of photography is ready for Oscar!!! I'm happy when i see movies like that from countries that survived communism!Wote for this movie!until next time ...
