For the most part, I really enjoyed this film.

Warning: Spoilers
I watched this film and somehow it moved me to wonder about personal things. I believe I had read the story it was based on but can't quite recall. I was caught off guard by the scene at the house. It was slightly unclear to me that there was anything wrong with the soldier. He seemed a bit stressed out or something. Then recalled that I saw he was sitting considerably lower than his buddy. It made sense after the the door was opened and Johnny was invited in, not Jacob. On a different note, I didn't really like the painting. It was sort of out of place when you looked around at the other works of art. I was shocked to find that the gallery section of the film was actually shot in a working art gallery in Santa Monica. Great production value. Finally, the absolute best moment of this film, in my opinion... There is a point when Johnny explains what happened to Jacob, to Jacob's father. There's this difficult pause, a moment of loss and regret from Johnny (Klatann Thomas) and it seems so genuine. I really appreciated it. I hope to see more films with Klatann Thomas in them, he seems really emotionally honest.

A short to write home about!
qwert-2213 April 2005
Haven Pell is excellent in the role of Jacob. Powerful, moving and human. He really steals the show. All aspects of this short tear into the hearts of a contemporary audience that hides behind a veil of fast action in an attempt to escape from the difficult realities and emotions of real life. Haven Pell not only confronts this reality head on like a south bound train on a dusty desert track, but also manages to share a glimpse into what true pain is. Excellent direction, production and sound. It is not everyday an actor comes around with the screen presence of Haven Pell. Keep your eyes open for him in the near future. I hear his next short is something pretty special.

This short is simple and direct.

This short is simple and direct. The actors seem to be in "apprenticeship" but convey the story well. A few decent moments from what the director had to work with. A reasonable effort on all parts, the butler was entertaining. The father and son relationship never quite felt clearly defined. Would like to have seen more.
