In the Summer, a film director Alessandra Lacorazza, won the top honor, U.S. Grand Jury Prize, starring Lio Mehiel.
Last year, Mehiel told uInterview exclusively about the importance of trans representation.
“Whenever there is an uptick of queer or trans representation in the media, there is an equal and perhaps greater response from the other side … that are looking to suppress trans rights, trans agency [and] queer liberation,” Mehiel told uInterview founder Erik Meers. “While in Hollywood we are seeing trans representation and this film is able to be part of that movement, this film is more important now than ever because even just in Utah,...

Before Mira (Preeti Panigrahi), a headstrong and academically gifted 16-year-old, met Sri (Kesav Binoy Kiron), she didn’t think about love. She focused on her classwork and dreamed of perfect scores. Their courtship, a series of endearing encounters that start with a night of stargazing, changes her priorities. Now, Mira studies Sri’s body, fantasizes about their kisses and competes for his attention.
The drama of Shuchi Talati’s debut feature Girls Will Be Girls unfurls at the speed of a realization. It is a slow and deliberate narrative, with a pace that reflects the emotional currents of Mira’s life. Acclimating to its lingering rhythm, its loitering sensibility, takes time. Premiering in the World Dramatic Competition at Sundance, Talati’s film offers a sensitive and distinctive take on the fraught dynamics between mothers and daughters.

For better or worse, there’s a tradition of precocious teens on film.
From “Heathers” to “Mean Girls” to “Euphoria” to “Mean Girls” again, teenagers — especially American ones — are perceptive, manipulative, sexualized, and adventurous… eminently watchable even when they’re not relatable.
But elsewhere in the world of filmmaking and adolescence, there are so many other ways to grow up. There are teenagers who still feel like children, others who can’t act on their changing minds and bodies, others still who don’t share their peers’ new interests and feel alienated as a result. Shuchi Talati’s striking Sundance debut “Girls Will Be Girls” is about one such teenager, the quiet, obedient, and book-smart Mira (Preeti Panigrahi).
Mira is the first female head prefect to be appointed at her boarding school in North India, a responsibility she does not take lightly as she is tasked with keeping classmates and friends in check.

A mother and daughter both come of age in “Girls Will Be Girls,” Shuchi Talati’s gentle English-Hindi high school drama set in the Himalayan foothills. In this engrossing feature debut about angst and desire, the draconian Indian boarding school setting robs its teen protagonist of the language to express (or fully understand) her burgeoning sexuality. Talati, however, fills in those wordless blanks with images both graceful and precise, yielding breathtaking tension when the boundaries between her mother and her boyfriend begin to blur.

Saurav Rai’s 2019 film ”Invitation” featured a child protagonist and once again the filmmaker centers a film on a young person.
Rai’s “Guras,” a Nepali and Hindi-language film, is a work-in-progress selection at the Hong Kong — Asia Film Financing Forum (Haf). It follows 9-year-old Guras, who lives in a mountain village in India’s Darjeeling district. Her pet dog goes missing and she embarks on a journey that soon turns mystical as she meets otherworldly beings along the way.
“I always had this fascination with my grandma’s real-life incident during her childhood when she stole someone’s vegetables from their garden. She ended up having chest pain after that and when her mother figured it out, she took her to the owner of the farmland. The owner immediately knew what had happened, so she smiled and prayed to her ancestors and relieved my grandma of the pain,” Rai says.

Earth Below Us: Plotnick’s Debut a Sweet Space Soap Opera
Those familiar with the comedic genius of Jack Plotnick should be thrilled to see his directorial debut, Space Station 76, based on a stage play he co-wrote. Bearing his particular brand of subversive, offbeat humor, it’s a space set soap opera made as if it were in the 1970’s and meant as an homage to those classic films from the time period that inventively attempted to visually prophesize the space age. Regularly featured in the films of Quentin Dupieux and television series, ‘Reno 911,” Plotnick’s perhaps best known for the sorely underrated spoof, Girls Will Be Girls, so many may be surprised at the sometimes melancholy tone underlying this film’s more capricious moments. More of a space age melodrama reflecting nostalgia for a bygone era of storytelling in its mixture of vintage and modern tone, it’s as sweet,...

This Sunday, Michael Fassbender just might walk away with a Golden Globe for his role in Shame -- a film where he famously bared all. If you've seen the movie, you know Fassbender wasn't the only one to strip down for its gritty sex scenes -- perhaps the most memorable act involves his threesome with two women. So who are those women, exactly?
They're professional burlesque dancers DeeDee Luxe and Calamity Chang. I reached out to them separately, hoping to get the skinny on what really goes down during a Hollywood sex scene. Turns out, they've become fast friends since their on-camera tryst -- they immediately texted each other and decided on a spot where we could all meet.
And so it was at a swanky West Village wine bar that I found myself sandwiched between two gorgeous, glamorous women, giggling and sipping Malbec as we discussed on-screen vs. off-screen chemistry,...

Steven Soderbergh is in early talks to direct Man From U.N.C.L.E’s trip to the big screen. Are all these 1960’s remakes because baby boomers are retiring and have time to go to the movies?

Eric Stonestreet is taking nothing for granted about his suddenly charmed life. Not starring on last season's breakout hit — ABC's Modern Family. Not having the show earn both criitcal praise including Stonestreet himself snagging a Supporting Actor Emmy nor the show earning 14 nominations.
Nor is Modern Family's creator Steve Levitan taking things for granted. Indeed, he's fearful of the show suffering a sophomore slump or having to endure the moment when the show has its first "clunker episode."
Steven Levitan
Judging from the reaction of the critics during a TCA chat with the Stonestreet, Levitan and the rest of the Modern Family cast (Jesse Tyler Ferguson who plays Mitchell was unable to attend), Levitan has very little to be worried about.
Levitan chatted with AfterElton.com about the upcoming season, including the episode that will deal with why Mitchell and Cameron have yet to kiss on the show. That...

Have a question about gay male entertainment? Contact me here (and be sure and include your city and state and/or country!)
Q: So the trailer for Sex and the City 2 is out, and it reveals what Liza Minnelli had already confirmed: she sings at Anthony and Stanford’s gay wedding. But what about the other part of the rumor, that Barbra Streisand also sings? Is she in the movie or not? – Elliott, Carmel, CA
A: It’s been denied, but truthfully? I'd bet money that she is.
What’s my hunch based on?
First, there were the rumors before filming that the producers were in “secret talks” with her. Then there were the rumors, immediately shot down, that she and Liza Minnelli...

Q: There are so many songs on each episode of Glee! How in the world do they record it all? And how do they pick the songs? – Velma, New Orleans, La
A: It’s a hell of a lot of work! For the first thirteen episodes, they recorded well over 60 songs.
“On the first episodes, we were preparing weeks in advance,” says Kevin McHale, who plays Artie (the guy in the wheelchair). “But as we got down to doing episodes twelve and thirteen, we’d record it Monday, rehearse on Tuesday, and shoot it on Wednesday. It just got crazy. We’re recording for an episode before while shooting the current episode and rehearsing another episode. It can be anywhere from ten to 16 hours on the set.”
