There are numerous lists of the movies you need to watch at least once in your life, and you can already imagine features that are always present in them. However, what if we try to make such a list, but only with horror features? The result will surprise you.
Here are 10 of the most worth-watching horrors, ranked by Redditors.
The Thing (1982)
First comes John Carpenter’s classic film, telling a story about a scientific research team in Antarctica who is tormented by a terrifying alien, which became influential for the whole subgenre of the science fiction horror features.
The Shining (1980)
“Stephen King's book is better, but the movie is still a masterpiece that everyone needs to watch at least once in their lives,” says Redditor @No-Professor-8680 about it. Indeed, Kubrick’s timeless horror is a must-watch for all people interested in cinema.

As Netflix’s library of films ebbs and flows, finding the right movie to watch can feel like bailing out an ocean with a spoon. And if you’re looking for a quality horror movie in particular, the search only gets harder. With the reality that Horror is one of the cheapest genres to produce, streamers like Netflix are cluttered with a veritable tsunami of bloody titles that sometimes seem indistinguishable from one another.
If you’re looking for a good horror movie to watch on Netflix that will truly scare you, picking a final selection can prove a more daunting task than sitting through yet another “Haunting of Hill House” rewatch; with or without its beloved “Bly Manor” chaser. But while the streamer’s priorities seem to shift as quickly as its content selection grows, Netflix’s horror library remains a high point — with original triumphs, including Guillermo del Toro...

No matter how many devastating deaths and sad exits Chicago Fire has had in its 12 seasons, the most impactful will forever be Lauren German's Leslie Shay.
Though there was much discussion and speculation about whether it was a wise decision to kill off her character so early in the show, the Chicago Fire brass was going for an emotional twist. And that's what Shay's death will always be remembered for.
Luckily for Lauren German, her career didn't end up buried like her character's. In fact, it only skyrocketed higher than ever when she left Dick Wolf's procedural and began looking for other opportunities.
Lauren German Filmography
Now best known as Detective Chloe Decker from Fox's Lucifer, where she starred opposite Tom Ellis, who portrayed the titular character, the actress is hardly known for her role on Chicago Fire. However, she has more titles to be proud of in her career.

Back in December, the folks at Spooky Pinball announced that they were making a very limited edition pinball machine inspired by Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. If you (like me) weren’t able to get one of those 888 machines, well, at least that wasn’t our only chance to play a Chainsaw pinball game. A while back, Zen Studios brought a horror-themed pinball game called Pinball M to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Pinball M includes pinball games inspired by the likes of John Carpenter’s The Thing, the Chucky franchise, Dead by Daylight, Duke Nukem, and Zen Studios’ Lovecraft-inspired Wrath of the Elder Gods Director’s Cut – and on June 6th, it will be adding a pinball game inspired by the 2022 film Texas Chainsaw Massacre!

Back in 1986, Caroline Williams played one of my all-time favorite horror final girls, “Stretch” in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. She has followed that with several more horror movie appearances, taking roles in the likes of Leprechaun 3, Blind, and the recent Nicolas Cage Dracula movie Renfield, among many others. Now The Horror Collective has announced that they’ll be bringing us a Christmas-set (and 80s-set) slasher called He Sees You When You’re Sleeping this holiday season, and Williams is in the cast of that movie as well!
Directed by Charlie Steeds, who is also producing the film with Tom Malloy under his Trick Candle Productions banner, He Sees You When You’re Sleeping has the following synopsis: A young man’s Christmas homecoming turns into a nightmare as a killer in a Santa suit gruesomely picks off his estranged, wealthy family for their fortune.

Horror movies are often intense experiences, sometimes not just for the audience but also for the cast and crew making them behind-the-scenes. From maintaining raw emotions on high for effective performances to less than ideal filming conditions, making a horror movie can be grueling work, to the point that some actors occasionally regret starring in them.
On top of the heightened rigors of the job, the attention to gruesome detail in capturing such visceral material can literally make the actors on set sick to their stomachs. There are numerous horror movies that went so hard that they made the actors involved physically ill during the production. This ranges from the physical extremes of method acting and abusively megalomaniacal directors to actors becoming severely sick during filming. However, no matter the ailment, the show must go on, often with those afflicted actors' performances in the final film. Here are the biggest...

Typically, a manga’s popularity sees an enormous boost after being adapted into an anime; however, Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man is an exception. It has been one of the highest-selling manga series and has an across-the-board fanbase due to its lively and enjoyable characters and intriguing theme.
Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man
To write relatable characters who can click with the audience, the author needs to have a similar personality and should interact with the audience. Tatsuki Fujimoto constantly achieves this via his X account, where he disguises himself as his little sister; however, the biography of Fujimoto’s sister account states that she is in her third year of elementary school, making her around 12 years old, which resulted in X banning the account.

This 70s-set prelude to the classic satanic horror has flair but struggles with the weight and familiarity of what came before
We didn’t need a prequel to landmark 1976 horror The Omen but we’d have been foolish not to expect one. The major genre films of that era – Halloween, The Exorcist, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Alien, Suspiria – have all seen a new round of remakes, reboots and remixes in the last few years – some tolerable, most not – and so another Damien chapter is as inevitable as the rise of Damien himself.
It’s not the first time anyone has tried either. After the series sputtered out in 1991 with the cheapo gender-swapped TV movie Omen IV: The Awakening, the films went the way of most horror during that decade and it took until 2006, a time of anything-goes, mostly gutter-level remakes, for the sixes to align once again. Tatsuki Fujimoto is undoubtedly one of the most unique and unconventional creators in the manga world. His personality is almost as peculiar as his hugely influential series, Chainsaw Man. This groundbreaking new shonen manga has exploded in popularity, earning recognition as a modern classic.
Its wildly successful anime adaptation in 2022 only boosted Chainsaw Man‘s enormous fanbase even further. What makes Chainsaw Man so unforgettable and impactful is its quirky, one-of-a-kind feel. The series blends surreal comedy, violent dark fantasy in a grim world overrun by evil Devils, and genuinely touching drama that brings readers to tears again and again.

There are few television shows where one moment, you can see wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper fully freaked over a poltergeist and the next, catch The Partridge Family‘s Shirley Jones in an ascot mildly put out by a haunted house. Such is the joy of Celebrity Ghost Stories.
One of the show’s many notable qualities is that the celebrities within one episode are strangely matched, like someone tore out pages from a bunch of People magazines from the 1970s and beyond, threw them in the air like confetti, and then picked 3 or 4 celebs at random to group together per episode. This isn’t a criticism — what would the alternative even be, weird theme nights? — but it’s amusingly whiplash-inducing all the same.

Creep director Christopher Smith will direct episodes of horror comedy series Video Nasty for BBC Three. Here are the first details:
British director Christopher Smith has made an eclectic range of films, from the tube tunnel terror of Creep to the mind bending time loop thriller Triangle, the historical horror of Black Death to the family fun of Get Santa (an opportune moment to point out that Get Santa is a hugely underappreciated British festive movie). He returned to horror with 2020’s The Banishing, and his next film, Spider Island, looks like it will have a similarly irreverent mix of horror and comedy to his 2006 hit Severance.
According to British Comedy Guide, Smith is also set to direct episodes of Video Nasty, a new horror comedy series for BBC Three.

Sunday wasn’t just St. Patrick’s Day, it was also Kurt Russell’s birthday — and the Halloweenies think that’s worth celebrating. After all, for over 45 years, Russell has kept us rooting for him in a smorgasbord of iconic roles: Rj MacReady, Snake Plissken, Jack Burton, Elvis Presley, Wyatt Earp, Santa Claus, Stuntman Mike, Curtis McCabe, Mr. Nobody, Jeff Taylor, Rudy Russo, Eldon Perry, and, of course, Captain Ron.
Don’t forget he also played the great Sheriff Franklin Hunt in 2006’s Bone Tomahawk, one of our favorite films of the 2010s, and yet also one of our first one-off Rentals in our Patreon, The Rewind. So, to celebrate the big guy’s birthday this past Sunday, the gang unlocked said episode on S. Craig Zahler’s 2015 slice of Western Horror, which includes special guests Randall Colburn and Dan Pfleegor of The Losers’ Club.

I’ve always felt that the 1979 horror film Tourist Trap (watch it Here) deserves a lot more respect and attention than it gets – and that star Chuck Connors (best known for The Rifleman) deserved the “genre icon” career he was aiming for when he signed on for the movie. Barbara Crampton is someone who did achieve a genre icon career, and she clearly believes there was something great going on with Tourist Trap, because our friends at Bloody Disgusting have learned that she is producing a remake of the film!
Crampton is the Vice President of Production & Development at Alliance Media Partners, and the company has just acquired the rights to make a new version of Tourist Trap. Crampton will be producing the film alongside Bob Portal, who is Amp’s Managing Director & Head of Production.
Produced by Full Moon founder Charles Band, the original Tourist Trap stars Connors as Mr.

In one of our recent Wtf episodes, we covered the eye-gouging, eastern European-set filthy shenanigans of Eli Roth’s nicely messed up torture porn movie, Hostel. The film helped pave the way for the exploitation horror subgenre to thrive in the early 2000s, and followed a group of American tourists who get a lot more than they bargained for during a trip to the lovely picturesque country of Slovakia. Poor lads. All they wanted was some promiscuous sex with hot European ladies, but they weren’t counting on a shady organization dishing out decapitation and slit throats, as a side dish to the fornication. The movie, according to the tagline, was ‘based upon true events’ and whether or not you believe this claim, it’s nothing if not brutally demented in parts. So, like any other horror movie that manages to whip up a frenzy with critics and fans alike,...

The folks at Platinum Dunes, the production company headed up by Michael Bay and Bradley Fuller, clearly love working with director Jonathan Liebesman. After working with Liebesman on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, they had him attached to direct their reboot of Friday the 13th for a while – and even though Liebesman wasn’t at the helm of that one by the time it went into production, they did work with him again, on their 2014 version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Now, a decade later, Platinum Dunes and Jonathan Liebesman are re-teaming for a werewolf movie called Wolf Night.
Deadline wasn’t able to dig up much information on Wolf Night, but they did learn that the project is being described as “District 9 by way of The Purge“. Will Honley, whose writing credits include Escape Room: Tournament of Champions, wrote the screenplay with April Maguire.

The Assassin’s Creed franchise is dipping its toes in various forms of gameplay which includes PvE and 4-player co-op. Codenamed Raid at the moment, it was an inevitability for famous IPs to adapt to the times and secure their relevancy given the tough competition where competitive battle royale games are dominating the market. Multiplayer games bring out competitiveness and collaboration and it would be a wise move for Ubisoft to put out their spin for their franchise.
Assassin’s Creed Raid Could Be A Game Changer
Assassin’s Creed Raid could bring players together and roam new exciting biomes.
Recent leaks have excited fans with the possibility of exploring new countries and lore while also getting remakes of legacy titles and full multiplayer games, as in plural with another upcoming title codenamed Echoes which could potentially be a battle royale. Providing players a variety of options to enter the world of Assassin’s Creed.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, remains one of the most notorious and haunting films of the 70s, setting a new standard for terror and suspense in the genre. What makes this film truly remarkable is its unique position as a pioneer that predates the slasher genre’s emergence, standing on its own as a gruesome and chilling masterpiece. Released before John Carpenter‘s Halloween ignited the slasher craze, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre carved out its own place in cinematic history with its raw and relentless portrayal of terror. Its disturbingly realistic tone and gritty aesthetics created an atmosphere of dread and unease that...

For a guy who writes about awful stuff happening to people, Stephen King sure likes liking things. Just think about how many times he’s used his position to praise other creatives and projects. “I have seen the future of horror and his name is Clive Barker,” declared his blurb for the American release of Books of Blood. “Tight, terrific, and very, very scary. Reminded me a bit of Duel,” he said of The Fall on Twitter in 2022. “Wish I’d written it.” Heck, his horror history book Danse Macabre ends with an appendix recommending over 100 books and nearly 100 movies.
But when the 76-year-old writer praises the upcoming film adaptation of his seminal novel Salem’s Lot , King’s word carries a bit more weight. King published Salem’s Lot, about a man who learns that his old hometown has become infested with vampires, in 1975 and is still regarded decades later as...

Back in the late ’90s and early 2000s, Anchor Bay Entertainment was a major player in the horror world, giving DVD releases to films like the Evil Dead trilogy, George A. Romero’s Dead trilogy, the Sleepaway Camp franchise, The Hills Have Eyes, The Car, Maniac, Prom Night, some of the Hellraisers, Halloweens, and much more. Then things changed, and eventually Anchor Bay got folded into Lionsgate Home Entertainment… but now Deadline reports that the Anchor Bay Entertainment label is being revived, and the revival is starting off with the releases of puppet horror film Abruptio and Dinner with Leatherface, a documentary that looks at the life, career, and legacy of original Leatherface actor Gunnar Hansen!

The Astronaut has since made it way through production, but not with Roberts in the lead. Roberts had to drop out of the project and was replaced by Kate Mara (Class of ’09). Now a first look image that shows Mara as the title character has made its way online, and you can check it out at the bottom of this article.

The new launch comes with a pair of acquisition titles: puppet horror film Abruptio and documentary Dinner with Leatherface.
“We had an opportunity to take the name of a beloved genre film brand, one we feel a personal connection to, for our new company,” says Zambeck in a press release statement. “This is a new venture, unaffiliated with any previous incarnations. Ethan Hawke, Daniel Radcliffe, and Jessica Biel will pack their gear for Batso, a film based on the true story of three groundbreaking climbers who scaled the iconic peak El Capitan in Yosemite National Park in the early 1970s.
Kyle Marvin directs from a screenplay by Eamon O’Sullivan, with Ethan Hawke playing Warren “Batso” Harding and Daniel Radcliffe as Dean Caldwell, the first climbers to challenge the incredibly daunting sheer face El Capitan route known as “The Wall of Early Morning Light.” Meanwhile, Jessica Biel plays Beryl Knauth, a trend-setting climber and Warner’s romantic partner.
Here’s the official synopsis from Deadline‘s exclusive report:

If there is one unwritten rule of horror movies, it's that successful ones will get sequels. When they cease to be successful, there is a more than decent chance the franchise in question will be rebooted. This is the circle of life with genre movies in Hollywood. For "Friday the 13th" and its masked killer Jason Voorhees, the franchise had remained resilient for nearly three decades without ever being rebooted. But when that reboot came in 2009, it offered a new generation of horror fans a way to become acquainted with Mr. Voorhees.

We all have our favorite ways to watch a movie. For some, the theatrical experience is only complete with the perfect seat. For others, it’s the right snack. And for others still, it’s that ideal time of day or night to get that flick going. Greta Gerwig recently made her case on that final habit, saying the best times to watch a movie are 10 a.m. and 4 p.m…So what is the best time to start a movie?
Appearing on The Criterion Channel’s Adventures in Moviegoing series, Gerwig said, “I’ll make a pitch for watching a movie at 10 a.m. What’s great about it is, when you’re done watching the movie, you go get lunch, you talk about it, the day is still young, it’s not even 1 p.m. and you’ve already had a whole other life. I’ve only played a few video games over the last twenty years, primarily Halo online multiplayer and the recent Friday the 13th game that was hindered by lawsuits… and gaming sure is different these days than it was in my time, when a game was released in its complete form and then you just played the hell out of it. Now, if a game doesn’t get very frequent updates, players will abandon it very quickly. For example, the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game from Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham was just released for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One back on August 18th, and even though it was updated a new map and a couple new characters at the end of November, I’ve already seen gamers complaining that it’s getting stale and will be pronounced dead if there isn’t another update soon.

The Halloweenies take a quick post-holiday vacay to Raven’s Fair to discuss James Wan‘s 2007 supernatural horror film, Dead Silence. Together, they discuss Wan’s bleached-out style, the muddled mythology, Donnie Wahlberg‘s scene-stealing performance, and, naturally, 2010’s Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole. Note: This episode was recorded in September 2021.

Paris-based sales house Charades has acquired international sales rights to “In a Violent Nature,” the debut feature film from writer and director Chris Nash that is set to premiere in Sundance’s Midnight Section on Jan. 22.
Produced by Shudder under the streaming service’s Shudder Original banner, the film follows a vengeful undead monster as he methodically slaughters a group of campers in the wilderness after they remove a pendant from his resting grounds. Peter Kuplowsky and Shannon Hanmer are also producers on “In a Violent Nature,” which is set for release in 2024.
“‘In a Violent Nature’ reminded us of ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ and ‘Angst,’ but most of all, it’s the discovery of an incredibly talented director,” said Charades co-founders Pierre Mazars, Yohann Comte and Carole Baraton. “We are very grateful to be working with Shudder once again with whom we are building an incredible track record of genre films from ‘Revenge,...

The end of the 1990s was an odd time for cinema and in general. We were in the midst of Y2K, a panic over clocks and computers needing to roll over from 99 to 00, something people feared more than monsters and cults, something people really feared and fearmongered about. It was expected to be something of an apocalypse by some. So of course, Hollywood ran with it. Technology gone wrong, end of days, Satan coming to Earth, etc. We got films like Strange Days, Stigmata, eXistenZ, Virus, The Matrix, and End of Days (watch it Here), our movie today.
Following a dry patch of work for Arnold Schwarzenegger following Batman & Robin and heart surgery, he didn’t get all that many offers and eventually, it seemed like he would not be coming back. Then, End of Days came his way, and it seemed like a good, if darker than his then-recent work,...

Paul Giamatti is one of the most highly respected actors working in the industry today, and he’s also quite prolific, with over 115 screen credits to his name. Last night, he won a Golden Globe for his performance in the excellent comedy / drama film The Holdovers – and during a red carpet interview at the event, he revealed there’s one area where he feels his career is lacking: he hasn’t worked on enough horror projects.
Asked if there’s a genre he would love to work in, Giamatti answered, “Horror. I’d like to do more horror. I love horror.” When asked what his favorite horror movie is, he replied, “Oh, that’s a very tricky question. I like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre a lot. I love horror. Love it!” When the interviewer was a bit shocked and appalled that Giamatti is such a Chainsaw fan, Giamatti stood up for it: “Great movie!
