The only political party mentioned in this two-hour presentation
is the Republican party. Is that because the Klan was made
up of only conservatives. Absolutely NOT! In fact, the opposite
is closer to the truth. The Klue Klux Klan in the south was almost
100% Democrat. And do they mention that the biggest ever Klan
rally was held in a city that routinely votes 90% liberal? No, they did
not.
While watching this material, as they drew closer to the late 20th century.
I waited to see an exploration of Democratic participation. The most famous
of those being Robert Byrd. Senator Byrd was a member of the Klan. And
participated in the filibuster against the Civil Rights Act of 1964. And none of
this is mentioned here.
There was nothing wrong with calling out the atrocities of the Klan, or of any
of the people who attempted to continue segregation. That part of this show
was good. But when they white-washed Lyndon Johnson's beliefs about
segregation. It was just another example of the revision of history. Johnson worked for a long time to stall the Civil Rights Act while he was in Congress. That isn't mentioned here. Like most offerings on the History Channel. This offering is flawed by its side-stepping of the role of Democrats in the Klan and in the efforts
to enact the Civil Rights Act of 1964. They frequently leave out details that don't support the liberal position on a host of subjects. A channel that purports to be a HISTORY channel. Should be truthful. And tell the whole story, without paying regard to philosophy or ideology. History is just supposed to facts.
