There’s a last-minute change brewing at “60 Minutes.”
When the venerable CBS newsmagazine launches its 55th season this Sunday, viewers may notice a twist at the end of the hour. The show is debuting a new end segment, something that its top producer hopes will resonate with crowds as much as previous codas like “Point/Counterpoint” or the musings of Andy Rooney did in their respective eras.
“We have tried different things to fill the space, and they felt a little unsatisfying,” executive producer Bill Owens tells Variety. “There wasn’t a consistency to it. I ended up giving that time back to the stories and the correspondents, so they would each have 20 to 30 seconds more. They were all very happy to have that time, but it felt like something was missing.”
The new final piece to the show, “The Last Minute,” will allow for updates to past “60 Minutes” stories...

Exclusive: Derek Cecil (House of Cards) and Jamestown star Max Beesley are set to recur opposite Ben Mendelsohn in The Outsider, based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel, from The Night Of co-creator/executive producer Richard Price, director-producer Jack Bender (Mr. Mercedes) Jason Bateman’s Aggregate Films and Temple Hill Entertainment. Mrc is the studio. Bateman will direct the first two episodes.
In The Outsider, a seemingly straightforward investigation into the gruesome murder of a local boy leads a seasoned cop and an unorthodox investigator to question everything they believe to be real, as an insidious supernatural force edges its way into the case.
Cecil will play Andy Katcavage. Beesley will portray Seale Bolton.
In addition to Mendelsohn, they join previously announced series regulars Cynthia Erivo, Bill Camp, Mare Winningham, Paddy Considine, Julianne Nicholson, Yul Vázquez, Jeremy Bobb, Marc Menchaca, along with Hettienne Park and Michael Esper who are recurring.

Writer/director J.J. Abrams was nervous when he first showed actor Mark Hamill the script for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. As you all know, Luke is referred to throughout the movie but isn’t seen until the final seconds, and even then he has no dialogue. “The last thing I wanted to do was insult a childhood […]

Star Wars: Rogue One’s third act is earning a lot of love. Here’s our take on why...
We’ll be discussing major spoilers from Rogue One in this article. A lot.
Rogue One has an awful lot going for it, all the way through, starting with that unsettling opening shot before transitioning into a gritty, handheld war movie unlike anything we’ve seen in a big screen Star Wars film before. It’s a movie, it seems fair to say, that a lot of people love already. I’ve already seen it overtake Return Of The Jedi in some people’s rankings of the franchise on the whole.
But, as much as the entirety of Rogue One has plenty to enjoy, one particular section of Gareth Edwards’ Death Star-centric cinematic spinoff seems to be getting the most praise: the film’s final third. Here...

CBS primetime will look different Monday night because of the Paris attacks -- the network is swapping out "Supergirl" and "NCIS: Los Angeles" episodes that dealt with Isis and terrorism. The network says the scheduled "Supergirl" episode revolved around a bombing ... so, instead viewers will see a less violent episode that was supposed to air around Thanksgiving. The plot on "NCIS: Los Angeles" featured a group of women recruited by an Islamic State group. That's...

The term ‘so near, yet so far’ has never been more appropriate. The Walking Dead is back with a bang, with a Premiere that saw a military-precise operation going inch-perfectly, before the show suddenly remembered it thrives on death and despair, and rapidly veered off course – literally.
Flashbacks perfectly painted a picture of the world post-Season 5, and the sheer scale of the ‘walker quarry’ was staggering as Season 6 got underway. It’s been a while since the walkers were a genuine, game-changing threat, but that’s all changed. This herd means business.
The entire episode was very cleverly put together, as the seemingly slow-moving flashbacks actually raced through the storylines everyone expected from the first half of the season, in just one episode. They were all interwoven with the literally slow-moving sea of walkers as they were carefully shuffled away from Alexandria.
We got to see a quick glimpse...

Clint Eastwood's American Sniper has smashed box office records, and picked up Oscar nods. So how did it happen?
This article contains spoilers for American Sniper.
American Sniper stands to be the most financially profitable of this year's Best Picture Oscar contenders by a long way, having out-grossed most of the others' lifetime domestic totals in its first weekend on wide release.
The $90.2 million opening is the highest January opening of all time, more than doubling the opening weekend record set by Ride Along at the same time last year, and it's easily the strongest box office performer of director Clint Eastwood's career.
In short, it did the kind of business you would expect from a superhero movie, or a new instalment in an established franchise, and yet it's an R-rated war drama based on a true story. Irrespective of our thoughts on the film, that's a stunning début.

After months of speculation, the full cast line-up for Quentin Tarantino’s next pic, The Hateful Eight, has officially been announced. Following Deadline’s breaking news this morning, which suggested Channing Tatum was circling a part in the western, The Weinstein Company delivered a press release to verify the rumours.
The statement outlines an impressive list of names that’ve long since been linked to the project and who precisely they’ll be playing. Those we already knew; Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen and Bruce Dern comprise the main cast, with Tarantino newcomers Demian Bichir and yes, Channing Tatum rounding out the full roster. The last minute ‘tacking on’ of Tatum’s involvement in the release suggests it was hastily included in a rush after Deadline’s scoop. TWC goes on to say that he has merely “signed on for a role” – with...

Let Us Prey
Written by David Cairns and Fiona Watson
Directed by Brian O’Malley
Ireland/UK, 2014
‘Irish horror movie’ isn’t a phrase that comes up a lot, unless someone brings up Grabbers, and why on Earth would anyone do that. And yet, Fantasia 2014 has seen the unveiling of Let Us Prey, a new horror film by first time director Brian O’Malley, which is already making waves in the horror film circuit, and with good reason. Let Us Prey is a tense, tightly-wound and effective horror film that shows incredible promise from O’Malley, and delivers both for gore fans and those in search of something a little deeper than mere exploitation.
The film initially plays out like a much less funny version of Hot Fuzz, as its protagonist, the serious, by-the-books Police Constable Rachel Heggie, is stationed at a sleepy station house staffed largely by the lazy,...

It has been a very good year to be a fan of action-packed blockbusters. April and May brought audiences the one-two punch of strong Marvel movies Captain America: The Winter Soldier and X-Men: Days of Future Past, while Edge of Tomorrow and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes have thrilled moviegoers through June and July. Now, the big August tentpole – Marvel’s much-anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy – should keep with the high quality of this blockbuster season. In fact, if early reviews are to be believed, James Gunn’s space-set action-comedy is the best Marvel film yet.
Check out the reactions below:
Marvel’s @Guardians is magnificent. Hilarious, touching, action packed, I don’t think I could’ve liked it more. @JamesGunn killed it. Wow.

Ufc 175 has come and gone. While there’s still Sunday’s Tuf 19 event, between Wsof 11 Saturday afternoon and Ufc 175 Saturday evening, there has been a whole hell of a lot of Mma already this weekend. Ufc 175 was to be the crown jewel of the Ufc’s summer output/first half of the year, and while it didn’t quite live up to expectations, it was an interesting card nonetheless.
So what have we learned? What did Ufc 175 give us?
The two main areas of focus from this event were Ronda Rousey and Chris Weidman – one a dominant champion facing one of the last remaining legit contenders available to her in the Ufc, the other a champion derided as being something of a fluke. Did Ronda continue to be the...

It's been an eventful year for Leslie Knope on NBC comedy "Parks and Recreation": She lost her City Council seat; her best friend, Ann (Rashida Jones), and Ann's fiance, Chris (Rob Lowe), moved away and had a baby; she's been offered a dream job running an outpost of the National Parks Department in Chicago; and she just found out she and her husband, Ben (Adam Scott), are about to be first-time parents -- to triplets.
That's already a lot for one character to swallow, but Amy Poehler, who plays Leslie, says there's even more surprises in store when the "Parks" season six finale airs Thursday night -- including a huge, shocking final moment to the episode.
"The last minute or so of our season finale ... the last moments are really important and big things happen that kind of show you where we're going and where a lot of the...

While "Parks and Recreation" may not live and die on its twists and turns (thank God), the show has always employed cliffhangers in its season finales. From Leslie's impending impeachment last season to the government being shut down at the end of season two, there have been countless game-changing -- but realistic -- moments to cap off each season. The season six finale may hold something even bigger. "The last minute or so of our season finale, the last moments, are really important and big things happen that kind of show you where we’re going and where a lot of the characters are going," Amy Poehler said. "So I would encourage everybody to watch until the very end." The finale has been set up to showcase Pawnee's Unity Concert, an effort by Leslie Knope and the parks department to bring the citizens together after the rival towns of Pawnee and Eagleton merged mid-season.

Taking a strategic page from big studios dependence on pre-existing characters with a built in fanbase, Sony Pictures Classics docu line-up works with some of that same familiarity. Adding to their recent slate of visionary filmmakers (Jodorowsky’s Dune), ingenious painters (Tim’s Vermeer) and artists that have left their unique imprint on the visual landscape (For No Good Reason). Barker and Bernard have done their homework again – and are adding pivtoal figures in the launch of The Who in Lambert & Stamp. The last minute addition to Sundance’s 2014 slate will likely get as much mileage out of it until hitting the theatres sometime this year.

The last minute loan deal to bring Fabio Coentrao to Manchester United has failed, according to the BBC.
This comes as yet another blow to David Moyes after missing out on several other targets throughout the summer, Cesc Fabregas being one of them. It was expected that Coentrao was set to make a move to Old Trafford on a season-long loan deal however this appears to have fallen through.
Shortly before the closure of the transfer window, La Liga officials announced the deal however these statements were later retracted. It is believed that this deal was reliant upon Real Madrid completing a deal for Granada left back Guilherme Siquiera as Coentrao’s replacement. The deal for Siquiera could not be finalised due to Benfica having already completed a loan deal with the player. Manchester United have not yet confirmed this.
This wasn’t the only embarrassment that United had to deal with.

The fickle nature of the movie industry means that what a screenwriter or director thinks best suits a film might not sit quite as well with audiences (as we often learn to our cost). As such, when movies are screened for test crowds, often viewers will take exception to a character being killed – or as is sometimes the case, a character surviving – and fill that in on their feedback sheet at the conclusion of the screening.
Enough repeat utterances of this complaint will result in the studio approaching the director to change said character’s fate, which obviously involves re-scripting and re-shoots, something which isn’t taken on lightly in Hollywood.
Sometimes, filmmakers will be smart enough to shoot an alternate ending as a safety in case they change their mind, but whatever the circumstances, the result is the same; in these 10 movies, these 13 characters had their fates changed at the 11th hour…...

British actor, musician, Maxton Gig “Max” Beesley, Jr’s destiny as an actor was firmly set when his mom was inspired by American, Academy Award® winning actor Gig Young, in choosing her son’s middle name. Beesley, born and raised in his beloved Manchester, England, was raised in a family steeped in the arts. His father, Max Beesley, Sr. is a venerable jazz drummer and impressionist, and his mother Chris Marlowe was a jazz singer. His step-brother Jason Milligan is also an actor and Jason’s wife Angela Griffin is an actress.
At first, American audiences may not easily recognize Max Beesley’s name, but in fact, many are far more familiar with his esteemed CV of work, which includes numerous acclaimed acting roles in many stellar films, TV series, and also a supreme music career, than they realize.

Modern Family Season 4, Episode 17: “Best Men”
Written by Dan O’Shannon, Abraham Higginbotham and Bianca Douglas
Directed by Steven Levitan
Airs on Wednesdays at 9pm on ABC
This week we see the return of Sal, played brilliantly by none other than Elizabeth Banks, and this time she’s getting married. Barging in late at night, Sal announces that she wants Mitch and Cam to be her “Best Men”. The last minute announcement leads to a last minute hen party where Sal temporarily gets cold feet and makes out with a bar tender. Sal is a great character and Elizabeth Banks does crazy well, but the outcome feels a little disappointing. The episode is set out in a way that makes the audience expect, or hope, that Cam and Mitch end up getting married but the writers are probably saving this for a season finale. Lily is hilarious as always.

Anne Hathaway has apologised for any "disappointment" caused by her last-minute decision to switch dresses for the Oscars.
Hathaway appeared on the red carpet in a pale pink Prada gown, but admitted that she had only chosen the outfit that day.
Reports later suggested that she was originally due to don a Valentino creation for the event and suggested that she changed her mind after being concerned that it was too similar to the outfit being worn by her Les Misérables co-star Amanda Seyfried.
The last minute switch caused controversy in the fashion world, as Hathaway has previously been considered a devotee of Valentino - even wearing one of the designer's wedding dresses when she tied the knot with Adam Shulman last year.
Hathaway has now explained her decision to swap gowns in a statement to People.

On "The Art of War," The Good Wife ended with several shockers: Alicia was blindsided not only by the sexual assault decision, but Maddie's decision to run against Peter for Governor.
Our Round Table panel - of TV Fanatic staffers Carla Day, Carissa Pavlica and Christine Orlando, along with Tiffany Vogt of the TV Addict - discuss those surprises here, as well as what Alicia should do about Nick and the mysterious FBI investigation.
Agree or disagree with our opinions? Join in the conversation!

What did you think about the sexual assault case and the way it played out?
Tiffany: I was annoyed that they got me so invested in the case and then didn't win. We knew from the get go that it was a hard case with the perpetrator protected by a loophole in the law; then all they did was emphasize how there are so many...

Fantastic Fest 2012 is behind us and the number one complaint that I've heard is about Fantastic Fest withdrawal. The closing-night party was filled with the same high energy and camaraderie demonstrated above by badgeholders for karaoke at the American Legion Hall. No one wanted the party or the week to end. Despite a few issues with the boarding pass reservation system and oversold badges, everyone seemed to have a wonderful time with an amazing and diverse amount of film content.
Credit for the memorable experiences that overshadow any problems should be given to the Fantastic Fest staff and volunteers -- not just the founders and film programmers, but the staff at the concierge desk and the box office and the army of volunteers manning the doors. I'd been unsuccessful in securing my traditional Superfan badge for 2012 and was quite prepared for a more difficult experience, expecting long lines and missed screenings.

What was your favorite scene?
Stacey: Sam fighting for Andy near the end of the episode. I loved that he wouldn't let her walk away until he was finished. His I screwed up, let's get a dog, let me make you dinner, meet me for a drink speech was fantastic!
Nathalie: The scene between Sam and Andy towards the end in and out of the locker room.

Ten has ripped up its TV schedule for next week in a last minute move to cope with the desperately poor ratings of its reality contest Everybody Dance Now.
Sunday’s episode of the Sarah Murdoch-fronted show has been cut from 90 minutes to an hour.
Monday’s episode of the FremantleMedia-produced show has been dropped altogether.
The last minute switch comes after the show rated a metro audience of just 598,00 for its first episode before falling to 304,000 and 324,000 – remarkably low numbers for a primetime network show.
The changes have reverberations through Ten’s schedule.
The premiere of Don’t Tell The Bride, fronted by Kate Richie, has been brought forward from Tuesday to Monday to fill the hole left by Everybody Dance Now.
The premiere of the new series of Can Of Worms hosted by Chrissie Swan remains at 8.30pm on Monday.
The Shire, which was shunted from Mondays...

It was all or nothing for Holland, did they stick, in the form of keeping the same team that had done them so poorly in the last two games, or twist and go out all guns blazing. Well, in truth, they did neither. They twisted on the team selection including Huntelaar and Van Der Vaart, in place of the defensive Van Bommel and winger Afellay, but didn’t twist in terms of their performance, looking very nervous and cagey for long periods of the match. They started well but ultimately failed in their quest to dodge death and breathe another breath in the quarter finals.
The opening minutes showed a much more fluid Holland, keeping the ball better and moving in to space for each other. The first time this paid dividends was when Robben cut inside from the right, but instead of the customary shot with the left peg,...

Forty-four years ago today, "2001: A Space Odyssey," Stanley Kubrick's classic science-fiction movie, premiered at the Uptown Theater in Washington D.C. While neither commercially or critically successful to begin with (the legendary Pauline Kael called it a "monumentally unimaginative movie"), it soon took off with audiences, in part thanks to its psychedelic closing sequence, and is now rightfully regarded as perhaps the greatest, and most prophetic science-fiction movie ever made.
To mark the occasion, below you'll find five key bits of info that you may not have been previously aware of about Kubrick's masterpiece. The film is currently available on DVD & Blu-Ray, and can be seen on Netflix: what better day than today to watch it?

1. What was your favorite moment/quote from either part of the High School Reunion?
Arlene G: Favorite moment? Dennis's complete mental freak out at not being treated like the king of the mountain top that he deemed himself to be in the part 2 season finale. Digging for his hidden tools in a fit of fury and then dancing like a methed-up addict during the choreographed George Michael "Freedom"-laced dance routine. Favorite quote? HollywoodNews.com: With Dream House opening today, sans press screenings, audiences will get a chance to discover, if they choose, just how much of the film has been spoiled by the trailer. Early reviews indicate that the movie is both stunningly boring and basically a hodge-podge of classic twist ending cliches.
While it’s fashionable to blame The Sixth Sense for the last ten years of last-minute ‘gotchas!’, the would-be thrillers that have followed in M. If you're an A-list celebrity who didn't get invited to Kim Kardashian's wedding on Saturday August 20th, all hope is not lost -- a little tweeting could go a long way.
That's what Ellen DeGeneres did. The talk show host, who just celebrated her third wedding anniversary with actress Portia de Rossi, tweeted yesterday:
"No invitation to @KimKardashian's wedding yet. #WorstThingInTheWorld."
But don't fret Ellen, Kim saw your tweet and responded:

The last minute invitation seems a little strange, given that it has been reported that Kim had to cut nearly 50 guests from her invite list.
The New York Post reports that the bride-to-be actually disinvited some of her stepfather Bruce Jenner's extended family and has instituted a strict, "no-plus-one" policy.

Black Eyed Peas have expressed their regret for having to cancel their Central Park benefit concert on Thursday night, June 9. Shortly after organizers announced they were pulling the plug on the show because of severe thunderstorms, band member Taboo took to his Twitter account and wrote, "Fergie [Stacy Ferguson] is really sorry it's not happening we feel horrible."
In the same tweet, the 35-year-old rapper continued, "We are devastated and Fergie told me to tweet this she loves u all." He later posted another tweet that read, "I hope that the concert will be rescheduled Asap , our pea-ple deserve it , my peaple from chase and robinhood deserve this NYC we love u."
The scheduled-Thursday concert in Central Park was intended to benefit the Robin Hood Foundation, which fights poverty in New York City. It was scheduled to begin at 5:00 P.M. with performances by Natasha Bedingfield, Tony Bennett, Carole King and LL Cool J.

News has just come our way that Warner Bros. will be spending an addtional $9 million on visual effects for The Green Lantern. The cost of its roughly 1,400 visual effects is more than $9 million over the $45 million original f/x budget. That budget is on the low side for a vfx-heavy tentpole, but 3D hadn't been taken into account in the original budget. The studio has even had to hire more vfx houses to help the team who is alreayd working overtime to meet the film's June 17 release date. The recent footage from the film shows exactly where that money has been going to.
Green Lantern will surely meet it's deadline, but other effects-heavy films continue to scramble. The last minute outsourcing and heavy pace is often par for the course on most tentpoles that have a ton of visual-effects these days. Lately it has been very common for "troubled" projects and the problem's growing,...

When the director of Nader and Simin, A Separation, the Iranian Asghar Farhadi, was asked what he made of being in the same competition as an Israeli film here at Berlinale, he was noble in sentiment. “Films are very expensive to make” he said, “so I hope they can all win prizes regardless of which country they are from.” Everybody applauded this spirit of cinematic brotherhood and we all felt that a blow had been struck in the name of world peace. It was an emotional time.
Yet had Farhadi the chance to see that rival film, Odem (or Lipstick in English), I’d like to think he’d have been less diplomatic. Odem is without a shadow of a doubt the single worst film I have seen in the official selection. It is one of the worst films I have ever seen in any context in fact,...

This month's reshoots of the Harry Potter finale have helped identify the two actors portraying a young Severus Snape and Scorpius Malfoy. The end begins as Harry, Ron, and Hermione go back to Hogwarts to find and destroy Voldemorts final horcruxes, but when Voldemort finds out about their mission, the biggest battle begins and life as they know it will never be the same again. Several news sources are now reporting that the epilogue reshoots for the film have just wrapped, finally taking the film into post production in preparation for a July 2011 release. The last minute filming has brought two more names, and the characters they are portraying, to light. Bertie Gilbert will be seen as Scorpius Malfoy, son of Draco Malfoy, in that epilogue, and Benedict Clarke will be seen in the film...

The same thing happened on This Morning later in the day, prompting many fans to speculate that the fiery Brazialian star was being gagged…..metaphorically speaking of course!
The last minute change of plan confused more than just TV viewers. Daybreak star Lorraine Kelly wrote on Twitter on Sunday night:

Hey! Watch this video. It's about summer movies. It will make you laugh. The last minute of the video may prompt you to spew a particular substance out of your nostrils. Maybe something you're drinking. Or eating. Or maybe an entire chicken nugget. And when you're done, share it with a loved one.
The video. Not that chicken nugget that's been in your nose. That's disgusting.

Filming begins today on Kenneth Branagh’s Marvel superhero flick Thor. The whole crew will be gearing up for a couple of months of production. One man will not: Stuart Towsend. Associated Press have announced that the Irish actor has left the production over that perennial moviemaking excuse entitled: creative differences. Townsend was cast as one of Thor’s warrior chums named Fandral. Replacing him is Joshua Dallas. So what could possibily have gone on? It will probably remain a mystery.
The last minute swap will have everybody writing about the time Townsend was hired as Strider/Aragon in the Lord of the Rings trilogy before Peter Jackson decided at the 11th hour, the actor was too young to play the mysterious warrior. It’s pretty hard to imagine anybody but Viggo Mortensen in the role now.
So there you have it. I’m sure Townsend has been well compensated...
