One Of The Coolest American Cartoons Ever!!
bbally8124 August 2003
Well, you see I'm more of an anime fan. So this is the best American cartoon ever made, and i've notice that they did pay some tribute for anime which is a big improvement over the lousy Totally Spies.

As for it being a fictional Celebrity-based Cartoon, I've never thought any of the Celebrity based cartoons would even match with the MR.T cartoon. But as usual Jackie Chan proves that no one makes a better real-life superhero than him. It also one of my three favorite Waner Bros. cartoons ever made, the other 2 being Static Shock and Road Rovers.

This show is a must see for both cartoon fans and Jackie Chan fans.

The Best Action Cartoon: Complete Series Analysis
amiranda-3927427 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Ever since i was a kid, the fictional adventures of Jackie Chan has always put a smile on my face. But catching it on cable every once in a while wasn't enough for me, i wanted to personally own the show, i only succeeded in getting a few vhs with like 3 episodes and that was it. But after 20 years I finally own the entire series on DVD. As soon I got it, i binge watched the entire series, and im happy to say the show still holds up, but more than that i want to say this is the greatest action cartoon ever made. It has every cool thing you can think of in it, whether its space travel to the moon, Kaiju battles, giants robots, monsters like el chupacabra and even time travel. The show takes you to many different countries to explore many different cultures, it was one of the first shows that exposed me to the concept of archeology and Chinese mythology. The Comedy is absolute Gold in this show, and the action is wonderfully animated. The backgrounds are drawn to look like traditional Chinese paintings. the animation for the characters and action are fluid, especially with some fight scenes that are purposefully done to look like action scenes from Jackie chan live action films.

The Characters: The show has a large assortment of unique and quirky characters, but the main assemble are terrific. Jackie Chan is a very humble man that just wants to do his job as an archeologist but is forced into a world of adventure and insanity, and has to save the world more than he would like too, but he is an admirable hero who gets the job done. Despite not being played by the real Jackie Chan, his voice actor brings the same likeability as the real one. Jackie's niece Jade, can be seen as just the tagalong kid, especially since she never stays put and always finds a way to stick to jackies side. Despite this, jade is not annoying, and is a very good character that helps jackie alot but also puts him in a lot of hard spots ( theres even an episode that showcases this), but she always does the right thing, and wants to be a hero like her uncle ( she succeeds). She is still one of the best kid characters in a cartoon ive seen, that inspired me to be more outgoing and independent. Jackie's Uncle named Uncle appears to be a cranky garlic loving old man that owns an antique shop, but he is really a wisecracking, forehead hitting, Chi wizard that is the sole reason jackie chan is able to defeat half of his supernatural enemies, also uncle ends up being the center of the shows comedy and best one liners, such as " One More Thing" and " Magic Must defeat Magic". Throughout the first season we are introduced to unique characters that end up becoming apart of Jackie's team, and come to his aid when he needs them, such as El Toro the masked wrester, Viper the sexy jewel thief, and Toru a Somu who becomes uncles apprentice. Together they fight the forces of evil such as Shendu, a demon/dragon sorcerer who can summon armies of shadow ninjas called shadow khan.

Even though each season did have a overall story arc, there were many filler episodes as well, some being hit or miss, but many being just as entertaining as the overall story of that season. I will be analyzing each season and giving it a grade.

Season1 : In this season we are introduced into the world of Jackie Chan, where he is a professional archeologist who is also one of the greatest martial artists in the world, he lives with his Uncle in San Francisco, and their lives are changed when their niece, Jade, comes to live with them. Jackie is soon recruited into a secret government group, Section 13, in order to stop a criminal organization known as the dark hand from stealing 12 ancient talismans. We discover that these talismans are representative of the Chinese zodiac and that each has its own unique power, and that the dark hand is trying to get them to release Shendu from his stone imprisonment. Each episode has the concept that Jackie must battle the forces of the dark hand in order to get all 12 talismans first, despite this simple premise each episode avoids being repetitive by having Jackie journey all around the world and encountering all sorts of people and obstacles. Despite his best efforts to retrieve all 12 talismans, they eventually are used to free Shendu, this culminates in a epic finale where Jackie must battle shendu to save Asia. Despite having a rocky start, this season is still the most energetic and compelling season of the show. 9/10

Season 2: With the defeat of shendu, a void for a new stronger evil was waiting to be filled. This comes in the form of shendus siblings, 7 demon sorcerers that are prisoners in the netherworld, and desire to be freed, to wreak havoc on the human world, this can only happen with the use of the Panku box, a device that can open the portals to each demons gate. Despite each demon being set free, the J team are successfully able to defeat them and reseal them back in their gates. When the final gate is sealed, the demons out of pure desperation, decide to locate the book of time and rewrite history. This remakes the world so that the demons were never sealed and that they are the rulers of the world, with all the members of the J team their slaves, except for jade, who is the only one that remembers and assembles the J team to stop the demons one last time. This is a worthy progression to the story established in season 1, and feels fresh, especially since Jackie has to battle demons and other monsters instead of ninjas and gangsters like in the first season. 8/10

Season 3: Despite this season starting with and mostly culminating of standalone or filler episodes, the season introduces the overall plot of a dark chi wizard called Daolon Wong wanting to obtain the 12 talismans and fill the world with dark chi. In his efforts to steal the talismans from section 13, the talismans are destroyed, but their powers are scattered across the world, choosing the most honorable animals of their Chinese zodiac sign to possess, granting the animals the specific power of that talisman. This season can feel repetitive, but luckily each episode is still made entertaining, and like i said theres a lot of unique filler episodes that keep the season feeling fresh. The finale has Daolon wong desiring the power of the dragon talisman, but since there are no more dragons in existence, he is forced to resurrect shendu, which proves to be a big mistake, since shendu hijacks the powers of all the animals, and is again the big villain of this finale, ending with him being imprisoned as a statue by uncle, thus recreating the talismans. While its still a fun season, it is most certainly the weakest in story. 7/10

Season 4: In order to escape prison, Daolon wong, attempts to summon the shadowkhan ninjas, but instead summons their king, Tarakudo, the king of the Oni. He becomes the knew villain of the season and desires to awaken his 10 Oni generals that were imprisoned in masks. If someone puts on these masks they will become an evil oni and be able to summon unique clans of shadowkhan. And if all the oni generals are awakened they will cover the entire earth in darkness ( You Know, the usual). The finale has a good plot twist and is actioned packed, and unlike before is a world threatening situation. Despite having the same formula as the previous seasons, this season feels very fresh, with each episode having differing types of shadowkhan to fight and different people voluntarily or involuntarily putting on the curse masks. 8/10

Season 5: In this season, an older secret agent jade from the future chases a criminal to the past, (or should i say the present), where he intends to kill jade when she was a little girl. This criminal is called Drago the son of Shendu. He is arrested and left in the past, but he escapes and decides to take over the world in this time, and the only way to do that is to obtain the demon chi of all of shendu's siblings which are contained in the weapons that were used to seal them away. Despite being a pitiful villain, Drago eventually succeeds by the finale, and absorbs all the demon chi, becoming a Cthulhu monster, intent on unleashing an army of demons upon the world, the j team attempt to stop him, but are no match for him in this form, so they resort to freeing shendu, and having him battle his son. This was the only season i never saw as a kid, so being the last season I was expecting to have a unique story , but sadly it still follows the formula as the previous seasons, and since i watched all these seasons in a row, i did feel this season dragged a lot, but it more than made up for it with the world ending finale. This season was still fun, on account of it having time travel, Kaiju battles and non stop action ( But you already knew that), and a nice wrap up to the show, although i would have liked to have seen the future jade again, for the finale, id say it was more than satisfactory. 7/10

Despite starting out as just another run of the mill cartoon based on a celebrity, this show out growed that origin and became something more, by being a show that could entertain and educate children. And I believe that's why it is better than all other cartoon shows based on celebrities. Also having the real Jackie Chan answer kids questions at the end of each episode really gave the show some specialness. The comedy in this show is absolute gold, whether it was funny one-liners or visual gags, i found myself laughing a lot. The action is visualizing pleasing whether its martial arts or blowfish laser blasts, i was thoroughly entertained. Despite the show being repetitive each season, the creators did find a way to try and make the seasons fresh and entertaining and ill gladly say they succeeded. This show is truly something special, and I do honestly feel it is the best action cartoon ever made, i look forward to one day watching this show with my own children. And one more thing, Magic Must defeat Magic!

Surprisingly enjoyable!
TheLittleSongbird1 June 2010
Now don't take my summary in a bad way. I like Jackie Chan a lot, I think he is very talented at what he does, and I was intrigued when I saw this. The concept was hokey to me at first, but when it came to seeing the show I was impressed with how it turned out. The story lines are somewhat original and don't feel formulaic or predictable, and the writing is funny and intelligent. Then we have the animation, the backgrounds are unique and the colours unusual but really nice, but I have to say the action/stunt sequences turned out brilliantly. And I like the characters, Jackie is a great character, he is loyal, determined and brave, and the villains are fun, especially Hak Foo(brilliantly voiced by Jim Cummings). And the voice acting is very well done, very dynamic and expressive. I do agree though the first half of the show is better than the second, the second wasn't bad, but I felt there were episodes when it focused a little too much on Jade. Don't get me wrong Jade is very cute and funny, but there needed to be more of a balance between her and Jackie, I got the sense sometimes Jackie was merely a side character on occasions during that occasion. Overall, a surprisingly enjoyable show that made the most of its concept. 8/10 Bethany Cox

Great show!
G-Joshua-Benjamin25 February 2010
I really like this show. I have always been a fan of Jackie Chan. I saw this when it was on TV a few times. I may have watched it each week. It has the normal Jackie Chan humor, while at the same time adding his action. In the cartoon him and a family member have to stop an army of all kinds of bad things. The humor between the girl and Chan is really funny and something I look forward to when getting ready to watch. Fans of Jackie Chan will probably think this is a cool show.

I have waited for this to come on DVD for a long time. One day, I typed it on i Tunes and they had it! So, I finally got to buy the show by season. Today I got the 5th and final season. I could not be any happier. It even has the thing at the end with Jackie Chan talking! Great!!!!

And another thing . . . WATCH THIS CARTOON!
anangel4lyf6 November 2001
Jackie Chan temporarily retires from the Martial Arts film world to help his Uncle in archaeology. He comes across twelve talismans that give the user spectacular powers. The sinister Niles Valmont and his suave squad of foes, Chow, Finn, Ratso, Hak Foo the Black Tiger, and Tohru want the talismans to appease the sinister dragon demon Shan Do and his glee club, the Shadowkhan.

Whoa.

Darn good thing he has hyperactive niece Jade on his side and back up from Section 13's Captain Black, Mexican luchador El Toro and sexy thief Viper. Darn good thing for ME that this cartoon is here! All the Jackie Chan-ness without that excess ghoulash his movies give me. Spectacular performances from James Sie, who's the perfect Jackie, Shan Do and Chow. Is Stacy Chan related? She's cool as Jade. And another thing. . . Sab Shimono's Uncle is very good! Clancy Brown(as Capt. Black) plays his coolest bald guy since Lex Luthor. Julian Sands, Adam Baldwyn, Jim Cummings and Noah Nelson should take a bow for their evil performances(Noah moreso because his Tohru's on our side, now). You also learn everything you need to know about Jackie Chan in live segments. If you don't want to have a bad day bad day bad day bad day bad day, etc., etc., then see this cartoon! And another thing. . . It's a whole lot of fun!

If there is anyone who can pass for a superhero, it would be Jackie Chan
Angelus216 November 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Imagine taking over the movie industry with your breathtaking stunts. What next? How about a cartoon starring, you? Thats what Jackie Chan did and it works; Jackie Chan has wowed the audience for years in movies and made them laugh at his innovative martial arts which combine comedy and martial arts, before it became a property for children's action movies. Here we are meant to believe that Jackie Chan is an archaeologist who with his Uncle collect rare artifacts until his niece Jade comes along and chaos ensues as an evil organisation known as 'Dark Hand' who possess power over shadow ninjas...and so Jackie must fight the forces of evil and be a model uncle to niece Jade.

The show has some unique backgrounds, thats something I love; the building are coloured but the colours don't stay in the lines...If you know what I mean....

Now the action...Its pure Jackie and its amazing how the fight scenes are transfered onto a cartoon and how it works brilliantly. Next is the comedy which is hilarious especially Jade who is adorable and keeps the laughs coming.

A very innovative and stylish show from a very innovative man!

Good show but not perfect
Duraznitot22 December 2020
I remember watching this show when I was a kid on Jetix and although it was long ago and I didn't watch many episodes, I had good memories. This year I decided re-watching it all and while it isn't bad it isn't perfect either...

The show is divided in 5 seasons, each with its own arc but each episode can be seen as an standalone story, even if they're connected (despite season 2 is full of filler episodes). Things I liked of this cartoon were the original ambience with all the elements of Chinese folklore, the main characters are pretty cool and most importantly, for most of the time the show is very entertaining. Personally my favorite seasons were the first and the third, which I consider equally good. Then season 2 because it had too much filler, and finally season 4 and 5 which are to be honest kinda bad. Or maybe I was saturated, it's almost 100 episodes! But except in the last part I enjoyed watching it.

Moving to the bad stuff, like I said before filler episodes and the last 2 seasons don't have very original or interesting plots and feel repetitive and uninspired. Also in the last 2 seasons the show becomes even more childish, at the begining it was a show for all ages but then I felt it was aimed exclusively at children. And the animation... Main character designs are fine, but the rest and specially the backgrounds are atrocious!!! And this is bad because it makes the show feel cheap. I don't mind that the backgrounds are simple, they're just very poorly drawn, so bad it's distracting.

To sum up, Jackie Chan Adventures it's a good cartoon to watch some episodes and remind good times from your childhood. Watching it all, it's in my opinion not worth the time. I just did it because of my stuborness, but objectively, there are many more cartoons (and shorter) who deserved being watched from begining to end than this one.

Brilliant show packed with action!
smetin10 November 2017
I used to love watching this show as a kid and since I found it again on DVD at the ripe old age of 25 I decided to give it another whirl! Jackie Chan Adventures follows Jackie Chan, his Uncle (Uncle), and his niece (Jade) as they try to protect the world against the forces of evil. What really sets this show apart from others is its villains usually have some sort of middle eastern background without falling into the trap of the typical white wrongdoer. It is probably the main reason why I still have so many distinct memories from episodes of this show, which gave me a major sense of nostalgia as I watched it.

I used to - and still - love Jackie Chan. He is such a brilliant actor, but also comes across as a guy who is down to earth, genuine and fun. This is something that really comes through in the TV show. The shows are well written and their plots are well-conceived. If any actor could be portrayed as a (super)hero in their own right, Jackie Chan is that guy! At the end of every episode we also have the added treat of the real-life Jackie being asked questions by kids. From 'what is your favourite food?' to 'how many types of martial arts do you know?', there are plenty of questions! What I also loved about it was that Jackie tended to go off on a tangent for most questions and never really answered them...

Of course, much of the humour is directed for a younger audience, but there were still many jokes that made me giggle! Indeed, there was even some adult humour littered across episodes that are probably for the benefit of many parents who end up watching it with their children.

Aside from their humour, many of the episodes have a few strong key messages, such as the importance of family, friendship, being truthful and so on. Again, many cartoons lack this element altogether, or fall on the opposite end of the spectrum and are no longer fun to watch. Jackie Chan Adventures somehow gets into this middle ground and this is another thing that really sets it apart from other cartoons.

Of course, this show is not perfect. Some of the jokes got repetitive and the goofy nature of Jackie sometimes put the episode a bit off-balance. I also felt that season 2 (demon doors) was a bit of a slump for the show as it really did not give each of the demons enough facetime. Since some of them were quite interesting, having them on-screen for 5 minutes before they were dragged back to their prison felt a bit lacklustre.

Taken together, Jackie Chan Adventures is a great show. It is not only fun to watch as a child, as I still enjoyed watching it as an adult! If you are looking for a cartoon for your child to watch this would be a great one. It is diverse, well-conceived and solves the dilemma of making cartoons educational without making them boring. As Uncle would say, 'Haaaachaaaaaaaa!'

good

"Jackie Chan Adventures" is a thrilling blend of action, humor, and mysticism that keeps you hooked from start to finish. The voice acting brings Jackie and his companions to life, infusing their personalities with charm and humor. The film editing ensures that the action sequences are both dynamic and well-paced, making each episode an exciting adventure. While the music may not be a standout, it fits the tone of the show perfectly. The series' strength lies in its ability to entertain and educate, intertwining thrilling escapades with valuable lessons about history and culture. Although the cinematography doesn't break new ground, it effectively captures the essence of each location and artifact. With a 7/10 rating, "Jackie Chan Adventures" is a fun and enlightening anime that's perfect for fans of action-packed escapades and cultural exploration.

SEASON 2 DEMON PORTAL ARC sequence order
Toonfella9 October 2019
This is not a review but a guide to Season 2, which is listed out of sequence here on IMDB and elsewhere. Here is an explanation of the chronology confusion (provided by one of the show's producers): the Demon Portal arc is comprised of 13 episodes for the Saturday morning time-slot. The other 26 episodes of Season 2 were stand-alone adventures (that possibly aired in Kids WB's afternoon slot). These included the 3 "lost talisman" episodes (Through the Rabbit Hole; The Warrior Incarnate; Snake Hunt). Kids WB was so enamored with the Talismans from the first season that the show's producers devised a way to revisit 3 of them in new episodes, by concocting "missing timeline" incidents. In theory, these 3 episodes could be dropped in beside their related episodes in Season One. Furthermore, some episodes of the Season 2 Demon Portal arc originally aired out of sequence order. The following lists the correct order the Demon Portal arc was intended to be viewed.

JCA#201 - The Stronger Evil JCA#202 - The J Team JCA#203 - Jade Times Jade JCA#205 - And He Does His Own Stunts JCA#206 - Queen of the Shadowkhan JCA#204 - Rumble in the Big House JCA#209 - Demon in Di-Skies (aka Tale of a Demon Tail) JCA#207 - Shanghai Moon JCA#208 - Armor of the Gods JCA#210 - The New Atlantis JCA#211 - The Eighth Door JCA#212 - Demon World - Part One JCA#213 - Demon World - Part Two

This show ROCKS!
thacdalia12 December 2004
The writers/producers of this series deserve a lot of credit. Somehow they've created an edgy, often wickedly funny animated series that conveys a healthy family in which everyone has importance; old people are still valued (Uncle rules!), girls are smart, cute, and kick butt (Jade IS all that), and the family can include close friends (Toru and his mom). The story lines are interesting and unusual. My kids love it and so do I. Yes, not like, love. If only most prime time shows were this well crafted. The problem for us is - UPN and Fox canceled this gem in favor of some unwatchable crapola!!! AIIYAAA!! How do we bring it back? Anyone know?

If DVD's were available, that would be cool too.

Beautiful
malloy-7634123 June 2020
9/10 only because Jackie Chan doesn't voice his own character, but it's understandable. At the end of each episode real life jackie Chan answers a question from kid, and his English is very poor at this point in time. So it makes more since for someone else to do his voice in the show

One of the most entertaining cartoons you'ss ever watch
jpelletero31 October 2020
Jackie Chan Adventures is one of the funniest, and one of, if not the most entertaining cartoons you'll ever watch. Every scene is either action-packed or comedy-packed. Jackie's figth scenes, the slaps stick comedy by Uncle, and Jade's constant interfering make this cartoons a fun and enjoyable ride.

Definitely better than all the animes I ever watched.

One of the best kids show ever
kevinkoshyv22 May 2021
Yeah, its a kids show. It's for kids. Don't believe all the low ratings given by boring adults.

When I was young, I watched it on Chutti TV(Tamil) and rewatched it on Kochu TV(Malayalam) and just like every South Indian kid, I loved it. Tamil dubbing was superior though.

Surprisingly good in spite of the hokey concept.
Anus Individual 72 January 2002
I'll be the first to admit that I thought this was a very bad idea when I'd first heard of it. I mean, a cartoon based on a celebrity? I laughed when I thought of Billy Baldwin Adventures. But thank the good heavens that the people behind this production know how to take a crappy concept and turn it into one of the better cartoons out there. The action is good and fast without looking ridiculous, the humor is pretty good, and the directing job is great. I also like the fact that Jacky Chan himself is not showboating. Most of the time, he actually gets his behind whupped and humiliated.

My Most Favourite Show
samuelwha5 May 2022
Bryce Dallas Howard gives an excellent performance as Jackie Kennedy. Her Cold War Kung-Fu highjinx never get old! Love this show a lot more than the snooze fest The Circle that doesn't even have enough Jackies for my taste. Just saying. I hope everyone enjoys this show as much as I do because it's good and Nik is wrong to make fun of me because he doesn't know what I know if you know what I'm saying. Love Bryce, love Jackie and that's that's.

A Great Hidden Gem!
BrnzReviews9 March 2022
I forgot all about this absolute gem until I came across it recently, in all honesty it deserves a good review. Jackie Chan adventures back in my childhood days was my jam! I loved kicking back watching this, it's literally everything you'd hope it to be and more. I'm a massive fan of Jackie Chan to this day and I watched a little recently and it still holds up.

This isn't your typical animated series, this one is different which is something I enjoy about it, there's no comparison unless you are familiar with The Karate Kid animated series that is.

I think this is a great show, got to give major props to Jackie & the creators for creating a masterpiece for children to enjoy all around the world.

Check it out!

An Ok Kung Fu
ThunderKing617 October 2021
JCA was an okay little product. It wasn't a go to or a show where'd you force yourself out of your sleep to watch. Still, it was an enjoyable under the radar show.

It's of a Jackie Chan from Rush Hour who is a martial artist...basically doing martial arts in order to find rocks and defeat the baddies. His sidekick wasn't James Carter but a little girl who also had the ability to kick baddie butt.

It was an enjoyable show, though not a go-to show. With or without it my early 00s television years would remain the same.

JACKIE CHAN ADVENTURES: Kung Fu Adventure
Jinxxa_Wolf9 March 2024
JACKIE CHAN ADVENTURES (2000-2005) was a great Saturday morning cartoon on the WB, featuring the amazing martial artist / comedian actor Jackie Chan, voicing the main character. This show was action packed and funny, full of fun and martial arts.

"Jackie Chan teams up with his 11-year-old niece, Jade, traveling the globe to locate a dozen magical talismans before the sinister Dark Hand does. Helping Jackie and Jade is Uncle, a cantankerous but wise antiquities expert."

This was a really fun series, for fans of kid animated series, Jackie Chan and martial arts adventures. This was a very entertaining show, great for most ages.

This show is very good, talented, funny. All of that! Jackie Chan is a great hero. Jade in the series is a great female hero. This cartoon shows originality, and the humor is very well written. The WB made this show look great. I think the animation is terrific!!!! Rock on Jackie!!
