And what queens! Wow, what a beautiful cast of ladies! It's a simple tale of four pretty but naive ladies trying to make a living as dancer/singers in Mexico. They made a pact/promise not fall for any man in order to completely dedicate themselves to their careers. But they can't help but fall in love with different types of men.
I'll start off with lovely Christiane Martel as 'Lisette'. This French 1953-54 Miss Universe had the most beautiful face. (Kinda of reminded me of a young Ingrid Bergman) She is the one who's scared of being deported back to France because she is illegally in Mexico. She gets mixed up with a swindler who is promising her he can get her papers in order but is really just taking her money. Thing is that she doesn't even realize there is another man played by the legendary actor/comedienne Manuel 'Loco' Valdes, that really secretly loves her and he would marry her in a minute to save her from being deported. And that one of her other three friend is actually a back-stabber and is messing with the swindler guy!
That so-called friend happens to the lovely Flor Silvestre who plays 'Paloma'. I think she didn't know that the guy she is dating is the one who is swindling 'Lisette', but when she does know or realize, she doesn't care because she is in love with guy, or so she thinks. It turns out that the guy in question (I don't recognize him or know his name but he kinda reminded me of a young buffed Vince Edwards doing his "James Dean' imitation like performance) is actually also swindling Flor's Paloma'! So in a way she gets what she deserves. Flor gets to sing three songs in the Ranchera style. She is the mother of current Mexican singing sensation Pepe Aguilar, her son with the late great actor/singer, Antonio Aguilar.
Then we have the astonishing Elvira Quintana who plays "Wow what a body!", 'Catalina' Reminded me a little of 'Jessica Rabbit' of Who Framed Roger Rabbit fame. I could not keep my eyes off her! Ha Ha. Her drama is while she is the UN-proclaimed leader of the group, she is struggling on how to continue dealing with her widowed but kleptomaniac dad played by the late great Óscar Ortiz de Pinedo. Every time he steals, she pays for all the items he stole because she wants to avoid him being sent to jail. She is sick and tired of this "game" her father plays and she really can't take it anymore. Funny part is that he finally meets the "girl of his dreams" and she happens to be a kleptomaniac herself! Elvira gets to also sing three lovely songs in the Bolero's style. I like these the best.
Then we have the beautiful and very pretty eyes, Mapita Cortes. She plays the cute but dopey 'Lala'. Who's so in love with her boyfriend, that she just's wants to quit the showbiz life and get married. She gets to sing and dance two Cumbia/Salsa like songs.
And last but surely not least, the funny and talented Manuel 'Loco' Valdes who plays 'El Invisible' (The Invisible one) Nicknamed that way because one can hear him or feel him but not truly see or care to see him. that is why is love for 'Lisette' is not at reciprocated until she realizes in the end when she really needed a man to be there for her, it's Valdes who's there to rescue her per say. He and Christiane , have a nice funny scene where he is practically serenading her and lip-synching to a song he put on ,but the vinyl record he puts on , he puts it at a higher speed and so sounds like a chipmunk! All in all, a very nice retro trip back in what they called in Mexico, "The Golden Age of Movies". A recommended viewing for the family.
