Charles Gemora

Andy Clyde is in Africa making an African epic, like TRADER HORN or INGAGI -- a couple of the gags refer to the latter. After stranding Marjorie Beebe in a canoe surrounded by crocodiles, they go in search of the gorilla girl; a native informs them that the girl and her family have left, so they put on some gorilla costumes themselves, only to have a real gorilla -- or actually Charles Gemora in his gorilla suit, which is as close as the movies got -- show up.

Modern viewers will have particular trouble with this movie because John Williams shows up with a ring in his nose and six of his 18 wives with him. I found the low-key tone that Andy Clyde always adopts in these situations to be amusing, but understand if people do not.

A guy in a crappy gorilla suit and alligators in deepest Africa!

Wow...how low Mack Sennett and Andy Clyde sank to doing a god-awful short like "Monkey Business in Africa". It's truly terrible, cheap, and unfunny...a bad combination, that's for sure.

When the story begins, an airplane flying over Africa runs out of gas and the filmmaker and his team are forced to bail out. Once on the ground, all sorts of unfunny hijinks occur...such as a fight with an obviously fake crocodile (and the live ones are actually American Alligators) and a guy in a gorilla suit that is about the most fake I've ever seen!

Overall, not a laugh to be had in this badly made short...not even one.
