Sex & Nudity

  • "My uncle is a pimp" Jerry Springer episode is briefly on TV.
  • A girl decides to sit next to a man on a train. As she stretches and puts her cases in the overhead compartment above her, the man admires the girls slim waistline and stomach which she reveals. The man quickly removes his wedding ring and attempts to chat the girl up when she sits down next to him.
  • A wife asks a husband if he's been with any other women, since their marital problems started.
  • A store owner tells a man in the store that "you better not be jacking off to the Japanese comics".
  • A man finds a drunk woman passed out in bed. It is implied he raped/sexually assaulted her.

Violence & Gore

  • A doctor (when holding Elijah born) says "his arms and his legs are broken".
  • A man walks downstairs but trips. He falls down the stairs. He is on a wheelchair later.
  • An African-American woman is hit in the head with a beer bottle and is told to, "Go back to Africa."
  • A man breaks into a house and attacks the owner. The owner's dead body is later seen with a bloody head wound.
  • A man watches another man being operated on. We hear someone describe the patients worsening condition and see a patch of blood quickly spreading. We later hear that the man died.
  • A man with brittle bone disease falls down a flight of stairs. We hear cracking sounds and his cries of pain. We later learn he broke 14 bones. Disturbing.
  • A man finds two children with their hands bound above their heads. It is implied that they have been held hostage. Their hands are tied up and when taken off are really bloody marks
  • A man finds a woman's dead body with her hands bound above her head. Her wrists are mildly bloody from struggling.
  • The aftermath of a car accident is shown. The car is on fire and a man pulls an injured woman out of the wreck.
  • A young boy has scratches on his cheek after a (offscreen) fight.

Profanity

  • While not particularly graphic, given how this movie, like "Signs," could have almost been an R, another reason why the movie has a TV-MA rating on some airings (such as on basic cable), the use of the word "j**k-off".
  • 1 use of shit, 1 use of ass, 1 use of "goddamn", 1 use of penis, 1 use of hell, 2 uses of "Jesus Christ", 1 use of Jesus, 1 use of "swear to god" and 1 use of "jacking off". Also 1 faint f-word.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A man says that the stadium was having problems with people buying drugs and then searches a man (implying he thought he was a drug dealer). But he is innocent.
  • One reference to alcohol; "have a couple of drinks".
  • Two people are seen drunk for a few seconds.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A really intense and scary film.
  • A train goes faster. The crash is not shown, but it is revealed on the television.
  • At the beginning, it is said that Elijah is born with a rare disease that his arms and legs are broken on the inside during the birth.
  • One scene with dead bodies and hostages seen and a realistic kill.
  • A man nearly drowns in an intense scene.
  • The whole film has a sense of psychological horror.
  • A young boy points a gun at his father and threatens to shoot him as he thinks his dad can't die.

Sex & Nudity

  • In the sequence with the family that is being held hostage, while never verbalized, it could be implied that there may have been a sexual component to the crimes inflicted on the mother and children.

Violence & Gore

  • Elijah says he went through about 50 injuries.
  • A character chokes and pushes another character in a wall in a very climatic violent intense sequences

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A scene near the ending shows a series of crimes committed by various people. This can be quite intense.
  • As David hand-shakes with Elijah, he realises (his power is anyone he touches, he sees danger) Elijah is responsible for the three tragedies such as the plane crash, burning building and the train crash that David was in.
