Ahead of its time

Warning: Spoilers
It's hard to believe this music video was made in 1980, since the type of stylish aesthetic featured here feels much closer to early 90s sensibilities.

In that way, it feels pretty ahead of its time, sharply contrasting with the large majority of animations from the same decade.

The song is very pleasant to hear, but I must say the imagery (while complementing the music pretty well) kinda overshadows it.

Oscar Grillo did an amazing work here. This, along with The Oriental Nightfish by Ian Emes are two great animated music videos often overlooked, but quite deserving of appreciation.

This definately deserves higher score than just 6.5.

Excellent "video" for a fun song

Warning: Spoilers
Linda McCartney, pressed into musicianship by her famous hubbie, came up with a reggae-flavoured song. Paul worked on the arrangement, Wings recorded it, and it was released in the name of Susie And The Red Stripes. And sank without trace. It has subsequently popped up here and there (most recently on Linda's posthumous album Wide Prairie), but without commercial success. This is a shame, for it is a cheery bit of summery reggae inconsequentiality.

And it graces this terrific little film which was nominated for a BAFTA and won the Palme d'Or for best short film at the Cannes Film Festival. Animation/direction is by Oscar Grillo, who adopts a bold style - primary colours, strong lines and shapes, cartoony yet strongly representational, as the simple story of a young girl's day in the seaside sunshine unfolds.

This is a delightful little film.

Loved Oscar Grillo's animation done to Linda McCartney's song "Seaside Woman"

I discovered this Oscar Grillo animated short of a song sung by Linda McCartney and Wings on YouTube when someone commented of this in the comments section of the animated short Sunbeam in the Cartoon Brew blog. It depicts the adventures of a young girl who lives in a beach house having fun at sea with her dog and some fishes as her mom washes clothes and her dad works catching fish (or maybe sailing, I'm not sure which). Grillo uses a sort of painting-come-to-life abstract quality that pleases the eye and matches the music perfectly. Nice to hear Linda's vocals as well as hubby Paul's little asides later in the song. Well deserved of the couple of the awards this short won. So in summation, if you're looking for another fine animated rendering of a pop song, check Seaside Woman on YouTube. P.S. The photos taken for the end credits were by Mrs. McCartney.
