Professional Counselor Review
fgodfrey15 February 2012
I have worked with hundreds of youth and this movie still approaches sexual education from a fantastic perspective. When the movie presents clothing and language that is not current, the kids laugh and it provides an excellent venue for us to discuss the topic in "modern" context. Kids need space to openly discuss embarrassing topics. This movie hits the mark. Would be nice to have it updated to current culture and DVD format, but still works well. The kids on the movie ask real questions that youth are STILL asking today. Some of the slang is still the same. Amazing really. I also run a program for boys with pornography addiction. Some adults believe they are "educated" already, when in reality they are often innocently pulled into pornography through curiosity. This video helps them understand some basic concepts they haven't learned.

Amazing!

Warning: Spoilers
This movie is an absolute winner! Under no circumstances should it be taken seriously. It is extremely dated and most 5 year olds no more about sex then the adults in this movie. I would not recommend it to educators but I would recommend it to non-sober people looking to laugh. It contains such gems as "Does open mouth kissing contribute to pregnancy?" The audience gets to experience Stephanie Yu buying her first bra which is nothing short of hilarious. I found this movie in a bargain bin of a video store that was going out of business and is the best $2.99 I have ever spent. Where else can you get a dissertation on the difference between wet dreams and wetting the bed? It's awesome, watch it, you won't regret it.

Personally, I didn't know how to rate this, for this reason: The film is perfectly awful, and by this, I mean it is so bad, it is absolutely hysterical. A true 10-out-of-10 on the Unintentional Comedy Scale. As for its original purpose, a sex-ed video for adolescents, it is a miserable failure. Taken out of that context, however, and viewed (as it should be) as a comedy, it is priceless, more so when viewed after some alcoholic beverages, or in some altered state.

It basically jumps back and forth between our junior high school hosts, Stephanie Yu and Z-Right (and a more ethnic pairing I cannot think of) setting the scene (the earlier review mentions Z-Right talking about how he "Got pretty good on a skate-board!" and wanting to know about Hormones), some animated sequences of Doug and Patty from Nickelodeon's "Doug"--interesting point, if you've seen this, you've seen Doug and Patty's genitals--and perhaps the most rewarding section, the "kids and instructor Q&A." The boys Q&A has the more entertaining quotes, but the girls' Q&A features: R&B singer Ashanti in her debut, and her mustache in its final television appearance, asking if masturbation is okay, dirty tramp that she is; one girl mentioning how she left the house without a bra and her father made her come back; and the immortal line, "NO! I DO NOT WANT TO DO THAT!" Pure entertainment, and, if you're 12 years old or a moron, you might learn something. If you can find this movie, invite some friends and some alcohol (not the 12 year-olds), and prepare to giggle.

Outdated Sex-Ed video HELLA funny!

Warning: Spoilers
I had this film in my house for many years. Had it since I was about 8 years old. About 2 years ago when I was moving and packing my movie collection, I came across it and decided to watch it. This film is sooo innocent and outdated. Funny questions about "boners" and "how big does the penis get?" made me laugh! Also came across a very young Ashanti worrying about getting her period, lol!! This film makes you realize we live in such an oversexed society now and there is no innocence nowadays. It teaches youth it is okay to have wet dreams, have sexual urges and it's normal to feel awkward about your breast or penis size. I would hope by now, they would format this video to DVD (VHS version is too blurry) or make an updated version.

Dear Lord, it's hilarious!

Warning: Spoilers
OK, as far as an actual movie that is supposed to help pre-teens in sex ed, it's a little outdated and pretty hokey, HOWEVER... when viewed as an intoxicated twenty-something, it could be one of the funniest movies I have ever seen in my life. I watch it on average of about 2 times a months and have actually had people over from work specifically because they have heard my roommates and I doing lines from the movie and they just HAD to see it for themselves! There three specific segments in this movie, Stephanie Yu's and Z. Wright's monologues with the camera, (which includes the gem "A lot of stuff happened since I hit puberty, my voice cracked and of course I got pretty good on a skate board! But what I really want to know is, what's a hormone?") animated shorts that look just like Doug Funnie (from Nickelodeon's old cartoon show Doug) about the changes in the teenage body "remember kids, this is you penis, and this, is the scrotum" and finally, in what is certainly the most hilarious part of the movie, a round table discussion with kids and their sex ed teachers. I swear to God I am not making this stuff up... some of the actual questions during this segment are: 1. Um, when it gets hard, err... is ya, could ya... do you call it a boner? 2. When I sometimes wake up... well, not me but a friend of mine, he has an erection... is this OK? 3. (With a giant mischievous grin on his face) Umm, how big does it get? (Follow up question) How will I know if it's big enough?

And that is just the boys segment, there is an entire girls segment too! Anyway, in summation I've only scratched the tip of the ice-berg... if you can somehow get your mitts on this movie I would recommend some drinks and some friends and get ready to hold you sides.
