"Felix Gets the Can" is a wonderful little cartoon considering when it was made. Sure, the cartoon's animation is pretty simple and there is no sound--but it was 1925! And, for 1925, it's a very enjoyable little film--and one that holds up pretty well today.
It begins with Felix out fishing. He has no luck and so he goes to the market and tries to steal one (I like that cat's style)--with no luck. But the owner tosses a can at Felix and it is a can of salmon. Instead of eating the contents (?), he gets a bright idea--go to Alaska to get salmon himself. How he gets there is pretty goofy--and what happens next, even goofier. I'd say more--it's best you just see it for yourself.
The 1920s were the glory days for Felix the Cat. His cartoons were the most popular and they had a wacky, surreal quality about them. In later incarnations in the 30s and 50s, Felix was almost saint-like. However, I like that he steals in this cartoon--it's refreshing compared to the saccharine Felix in later years! Well worth seeing.
