A great director Anthony Spinelli shot himself in the foot with this depressing, truly awful feature, about as entertaining as watching a hit-and-run driver kill some pedestrian.
Joey Silvera portrays untalented stand-up comic Danny Guttman, whose seemingly endless act is shown throughout the show. Of course, five tedious, unattractive XXX scenes break up his string of unfunny one-liners.
He tries to be hip, referring to Milton Berle as "Merle", and somehow thinking he's competitive with a Henny Youngman. Including the bad jokes, the script by Anthony's son Mitch Spinelli is beyond lousy. Add to that gimmicky, terrible editing throughout.
Set in a tiny, dingy night club owned by Buck Adams, the movie is relentlessly downbeat (including a terrible jazz score by Faux Pas). Except for cute (and innocent looking) cigarette girl Alice Springs, every character is unsympathetic and overall the mood, if not the content, suggests a low-rent version of the classic story "The Lower Depths" by Maxim Gorky, so brilliantly filmed by geniuses Kurosawa and Renoir.
So we get to see star Zara Whites completely wasted in a non-role working for Adams, and having sex scenes with Adams and Marc Wallice; while Trixy Tyler is an audience member Silvera deigns to f*ck backstage. In the 1970s when porn was a theatrical experience, this movie would have fallen into the "chaser" category, shown in rotation to encourage a deadbeat audience to leave the fleapit theater rather than sit there all night (or all day) -it's that bad.
