Before Rajkummar Rao in Srikanth, These 8 Bollywood Stars Played Blind Characters on Screen ( Photo Credit – YouTube )
Rajkumar Rao has once again proven his acting prowess with a wonderful portrayal of the titular role in Srikanth. The actor has done full justice to the character of Srikanth Bolla, a blind man who becomes a successful entrepreneur.
But before Rajkumar, quite a few stars had taken on the challenging role of a visually impaired person and masterfully portrayed their struggles on screen. Here are 8 Bollywood actors who left an indelible mark on the audience’s hearts by playing blind characters.
1. Rani Mukerji in Black
In 2005, Rani Mukerji was widely lauded for starring as a deaf-and-blind woman in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black. The actress represented the trials and tribulations faced by physically challenged people by playing Michelle, a girl who could neither see nor hear. Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver are so in sync that they tend to finish each other’s sentences, a habit that has come in handy during decades spent together writing some of Hollywood’s biggest movies — all while maintaining a 35-year-long marriage.
The duo arrived on the scene with The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, the 1992 female-led thriller that Silver wrote in USC grad school and got made with the help of Jaffa, then an agent at William Morris, who put it in front of the right people and worked as an uncredited writer on the film. Their careers took off in earnest when they revamped a flagging but treasured 20th Century Fox franchise with Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the 2011 feature that took a risk by focusing on an ape protagonist (Andy Serkis’ Caesar) and redefined what was possible with motion capture technology.

Ninety-four songs and 149 scores have been deemed eligible in the music categories for the 96th annual Academy Awards, Variety has learned.
Voting began Thursday, with 390 members of the Academy music branch eligible to vote in this year’s competition. And for the first time in years, there appear to be no surprises or glaring omissions.
Any film can submit up to three songs, and the “Barbie” entries were as expected: Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made for,” Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night” and the Mark Ronson-Andrew Wyatt song “I’m Just Ken.”
Five other films submitted the maximum of three songs, including two from Disney: the live-action “The Little Mermaid,” with “For the First Time,” “The Scuttlebutt” and “Wild Uncharted Waters,” all by Alan Menken (who won Oscars for the original in 1989) and Lin-Manuel Miranda; and “Wish,” the Julia Michaels-Benjamin Rice tunes including “I’m a Star,...

Rina Sawayama has released a deluxe version of her sophomore album, Hold the Girl, featuring two new bonus tracks. Stream it below.
Released in celebration of the original album’s first anniversary, Hold the Girl (Bonus Edition) includes the single “Flavour of the Month” and a reimagining of the record’s eighth track, “Imagining,” featuring Amaarae. The former track first appeared as a demo included on the Japanese edition of Hold the Girl.
As for the fresh cut of “Imagining,” Amaarae lends her voice for a new verse, perfectly fitting into the song’s electro-pop arrangement. The tension around her crisp, processed vocals builds from line to line, eventually coming to a head as Sawayama reenters with the song’s hook, bringing the track into “irresistibly dancy” territory. Stream the new tracks below.

“I had a great time,” reveals NBA champion Metta World Peace while discussing his time as Cuddle Monster on “The Masked Singer.” The athlete was eliminated on episode 7 following a “Trolls Night” performance of “You Got It (The Right Stuff)” by New Kids on the Block. “I was a little skeptical because I’m doing more business these days,” he admits. “I was able to get out of my comfort zone and go back on television and do something that’s fun. The experience was great.” Watch his exclusive video interview with Gold Derby senior Denton Davidson above.
Metta says his family inspired him to participate on the show even though he “can’t sing.” He explains, “I almost just kept it under the table. I tried to outprice myself so they could say, ‘No, we’re not going to bring you on this show.’ I tried to do everything...

If you thought the animatronic rats, chickens and bloodhounds that could break out in song – or revolt – at any time were the scariest part of Chuck E. Cheese, then you never encountered Kiefer Sutherland inside of one. It didn’t help that he had just starred as a rapist and murderer in 1996’s Eye for an Eye.
Speaking at the Fan Expo Chicago (via Entertainment Weekly) over the weekend, Kiefer Sutherland recalled his experience in public soon after playing Robert Dobbs, the man who goes unconvicted after killing Sally Field’s daughter in Eye for an Eye. “After Eye for an Eye opened, I took my daughter, who was eight years old, into Chuck E. Cheese…I’ve never seen parents leave a place so fast with their children in my life. My daughter actually thought I’d rented the place for just us. Because within 10 minutes, everybody was gone.

CBS’s The Equalizer has ended on another cliffhanger. Season 3 of the Queen Latifah-led action-drama wrapped up on May 21 with an intense episode that saw Robyn McCall and her team in a dramatic (and unresolved) showdown with one of her former CIA colleagues.
Meanwhile, the stakes were nearly as high for Robyn’s daughter Delilah (Laya DeLeon Hayes) and Aunt Vi (Lorraine Toussaint), who headed out to see a movie and ended up in a hostage situation when a robber pulled a gun on an unsuspecting store clerk. Showbiz Cheat Sheet chatted with Hayes about what went down in “Eye for an Eye” and what it might mean for her character heading into season 4.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for The Equalizer Season 3 finale, “Eye for an Eye.”] A major betrayal carried out by Robyn McCall’s former CIA leaders came back to haunt her in The Equalizer Season 3 finale. And the conflict, which left Mel, Harry, and Dante’s lives hanging in the balance, will continue into Season 4, which was green-lit by CBS in May 2022. The finale began with Robyn (Queen Latifah) and Mel (Liza Lapira) running for their lives in an empty warehouse, shielding themselves from gunfire while they looked for a way out. The episode then flashed back to tamer times earlier that day. It was a run-of-the-mill afternoon filled with Robyn working on her car, Mel and Harry (Adam Goldberg) grocery shopping, and Delilah (Laya DeLeon Hayes) and Aunt Vi (Lorraine Toussaint) on their way to the movies. But the day was harshly interrupted when Robyn, Mel, and Harry were all attacked. Having made it out unscathed,...

Rina Sawayama makes her acting debut in the brand-new John Wick: Chapter 4, and it sure would’ve been a waste if she hadn’t contributed to the soundtrack as well. Ahead of the film’s theatrical premiere this Friday, March 24th, the Japanese-British pop experimentalist has shared the anthem “Eye for an Eye.”
“Eye for an Eye” was produced and co-written by Tyler Bates, who’s also composed the futuristic-sounding scores for all four John Wick films. It begins with a funky, heavy-hitting synth riff that definitely feels a little reminiscent of Nine Inch Nails’ “Closer,” and the ’90s industrial vibes only get stronger from there as the instrumentals layer more and more, culminating in a pretty explosive chorus.
Lyrically, Sawayama’s narrator is on the prowl for revenge: “An eye for an eye, a life for a life/ I’ll see you in hell on the other side,...

Faced with the biggest, craziest Keanu Reeves kill-fest yet in “John Wick 4,” composer Tyler Bates upped the musical ante the only way possible: He added an orchestra to the essential “John Wick” palette of raw, headbanging guitars, drums and synths.
Bates – also known for his “Guardian of the Galaxy” scores – has collaborated with fellow composer Joel J. Richard on all of the “John Wick” music since the first film opened in 2014. “We share some very similar taste, and as friends, we’re just already on a subconscious wavelength,” says Bates.
“If you listen to the four scores, they’ve definitely grown as the scope of the films has. Not in the way that it’s now an orchestra and it’s larger; it’s just that the color palette has continued to develop throughout, still maintaining the fun, hybrid-rock foundation to the score.”

She was not only an actor, but also a singer, director, producer, and author who paved the way for future generations of transgender and LGBTQ+ talent in Brazil.
Born in Brazil in 1952, the multihyphenate began exploring her identity and talents while in the army. After she served, she went on to earn her beauty diploma and became a hairdresser in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro at age 20.
It was her daily life working at a salon that she says inspired her to transition. That same year, she joined a friend on a theatre audition, where she too landed a role. She made her debut as a dancer in Beco de Garrafas.

Pedro Almodóvar’s “Pain and Glory” will go head-to-head with two other big Spanish films – Alejandro Amenábar’s “While at War” and “The Endless Trench,” from Aitor Aguirre, Jon Garaño and José Mari Goenaga – at Spain’s 34th Goya Academy Awards, to be held Jan. 25 in Malaga.
“Pain and Glory” garnered 16 nominations,” “While at War” 17 and “The Endless Trench” 15.
Though most pundits would put “Pain and Glory” as the frontrunner, the outcome is difficult to predict. World-premiering in Spain before competing in Cannes, where Antonio Banderas won the best actor prize, “Pain and Glory” was reckoned by Spanish critics to be Almodóvar’s best film in a decade.
But ever since the screenplay for Luis Buñuel’s “Viridiana,” which went on to win the Palme d’Or, was written off in Spain as nonsense, the Spanish industry has steadfastly refused to kowtow to internationally acclaimed directors or indeed talent.

As the calendar changes from October to November, Mexican horror fans will ascend for the twelfth year on Morbido Fest, a Mexico City-based festival dedicated to all things macabre, organized and executed by Morbido Group CEO and founder Pablo Guisa Koestinger.
This year’s festival will kick off Oct. 30 with a spectacle grander in its ambition than any Morbido inauguration before. Taking place within the Esperanza Iris City theater, more than 60 artists will perform six choreographed musical numbers with Guisa taking the reigns as master of ceremonies. Those familiar with Guisa and his public persona won’t be surprised to hear that his opening night wardrobe alone includes eight costumes, with more to come in the following days.
Somehow, the TV network owner, festival director, writer, publisher and radio host found time to make appearances in three high-profile films screening at this year’s fest: Paco Plaza’s “Eye for an Eye,...

Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood crosses $150m at international box office.
Universal’s Fast franchise spin-off Hobbs & Shaw was in dominant mood again, beating the Hollywood competition to deliver an estimated $45.4m weekend worldwide box office and propel the running total to $684.2m.
If numbers are accurate, Hobbs & Shaw will become the only film so far this year to hold the global number one position for four weeks – overtaking Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: Far From Home and Captain Marvel on three.

Exclusive: Netflix has taken most of the world on Spanish crime pic Eye For An Eye by [Rec] director Paco Plaza.
Multi-Goya winner Luis Tosar (Cell 211) stars in the revenge-thriller about a retirement home nurse who becomes entangled with a feared cartel boss discharged from prison and put into his care.
The seven-figure Netflix deal, cut by Film Constellation, is for the world excluding Spain, where Sony will release later this summer, and France. Canal Plus has TV rights in the latter. The pic, currently in post-production, fits well with Netflix’s voracious drive for commercially-minded Spanish-language content and the deal is likely one of the platform’s biggest acquisitions of a Spanish indie movie.
Plaza’s hit 2007 horror [Rec], co-directed with Jaume Balagueró, grossed more than $30M and became a franchise. It was remade as Quarantine, which was released in most markets by Sony. The director’s latest film...

“Let mystery have its place in you; do not be always turning up your whole soil with the plowshare of self-examination, but leave a little fallow corner in your heart ready for any seed the winds may bring, and reserve a nook of shadow for the passing bird; keep a place in your heart for the unexpected guests, an altar for the unknown God.”

His tweets came seemingly in response to an interview in the current issue of People, in which he said, “I’ve made terrible mistakes throughout my life.”

The franchising of the very popular Keanu Reeves-starring puppy-centric actioner “John Wick” continues apace, with a much-hyped sequel on the way early next year, buzzing rumors that studio Lionsgate is already prepping a third film in the series and a brand new virtual reality video game in the works. That game — a first person shooter called “John Wick Chronicles” from Starbreeze — hit up New York’s Comic-Con this weekend, revealing an early look at what players can expect when it arrives in February (just in time for “John Wick: Chapter Two”!).

A pacy grace envelopes Kabir Khan’s new political thriller. You can almost smell the tension in the air. If Bajrangi Bhaijaan was a agreeable gentle cup of lemon tea Phantom is a the bracing percolating morning cup of coffee that makes you jump out of your bed and seize the day.
Kabir’s second film in six weeks after the epic success of Bajrangi Bhaijaan takes an aggressive what-if stand against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. Parental revenge plots pretty much always blur the balance between right and wrong, luring even the most pacifist viewer into a fit of fist-pumping for blood and rooting for the nastiest form of vengeance — because who wouldn’t leap past the line to stick eye for eye to the guy who hurt your kid? Tricky business. In “The Secret In Their Eyes,” Julia Roberts plays an FBI agent named Jess whose close-knit squad is called out to the scene of a murder, only to discover it’s her own teenage daughter who’s been brutally killed. And she has to sit back and watch as the guy who did it (we think?) gets to walk on a technicality. So, of course she wants to hunt him down and do what her “Steel Magnolias” mom Sally Field did to Kiefer Sutherland in “Eye for an Eye” — that is, take justice into her own hands.

Michael Mann’s new film, Blackhat, is a paradox of magnitudes and proximities. The scale is global, as announced in the opening shots that rhyme with the Universal logo just prior and, thanks to the dissolves down to Earth, Charles and Ray Eames' 1977 Powers of Ten. Once on ground, in a nuclear reactor’s control room, the powers of cinema take us yet deeper, smaller, to see how fast data travels across minuscule relays inside a screen, a computer, a network. As seems to be the tradition for midseason finales (looking at you, The Walking Dead), a major character bit the dust on Sunday's Revenge.
Spoilers are below, obviously.
As the episode title foreshadowed, Daniel (Josh Bowman) received his "Atonement," of sorts, when he sacrificed himself to save Emily (Emily VanCamp).
The son of the most hated man in America, Daniel dove in front of a bullet meant for Emily fired by FBI agent Kate (Courtney Ford).
Undeterred, Kate aimed for her target once again before her boyfriend, Jack (Nick Wechsler), arrived in the nick of time to stop her by killing her.
