Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson hit up The Tonight Show Friday ahead of next week’s release of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, and the Og ghost-busting duo brought along Ray Parker Jr. to perform the original film’s classic theme on classroom instruments alongside Jimmy Fallon and the Roots.

Prior to his Academy Award-nominated performance in Martin Scorsese’s The Departed, Mark Wahlberg, 52, was better known for his music career as ‘Marky Mark’. It turns out, though, that his past nearly kept him from being cast in the psychological thriller Fear (1996).
As it happens, Leonardo DiCaprio was considered for the role of David McCall, but the casting director felt he was not a choice for the part. Rather, he made a favorable impression on director James Foley on behalf of Wahlberg, with whom he co-starred on The Basketball Diaries. Later on, the two collaborated on The Departed.

Rare Picture of Leonardo DiCaprio and Monica Bellucci Before His Titanic Fame Will Make You Feel Old
With Leonardo DiCaprio approaching 50 and Monica Bellucci approaching 60, it’ll be almost three decades since dating rumors between the two ignited, thanks to one photo. It remains unconfirmed if they were ever romantically inclined towards each other as nothing apart from that pic suggested that being the case, which has once again gone viral since finding its way to the internet.
1995 was a major year for DiCaprio, as it was only four years since the actor made his debut, which witnessed him garnering major exposure with The Basketball Diaries and The Quick and the Dead. ’95 was also the same year when he would cross paths with the Italian sensation Monica Bellucci.

Let me give you my thoughts about love. I tend to side with famous Irish poet Oscar Wilde, when he says, “Never love anyone who treats you like you’re ordinary.” This is the basis for any successful relationship between lovers, most importantly during the honeymoon phase. Love sure makes us do crazy things for the people we care for most. But what is that limitation of crazy? And how far can it get before the significant others realizes this and wants to cut the cord for good? Sadly, cutting the cord may mean dire consequences for those that wish to end it. Let’s put that to the test and revisit two star-crossed lovers which is something out of any teenage girl’s dreams. But what if that dream soon warps into a twisted tale of horrific obsession, stalking, and manipulation? We’re talking about 1996’s Fear which is...

Some people think Leonardo DiCaprio became a star when he acted in James Cameron’s Titanic. Others believe his stardom predated that movie when he starred opposite Claire Danes in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet. However, the movie that made him an up-and-comer is a film that seems to have been all but erased from his filmography: the 1995 drama The Basketball Diaries, a movie that teamed him with a young Mark Wahlberg, earned good reviews and became a VHS cult hit among teens of the nineties. Yet, it’s a tough film to find unless you’re willing to shell out big bucks for the long, out-of-print Blu-ray (never released in the U.S) or an old-school DVD. You won’t find it on streaming, and it remains an oddly obscure film considering how popular it was in the nineties. What gives?

Mark Wahlberg has been known to go to some extreme lengths, physically and mentally, to prepare for his roles. However, there was one method of acting preparation he stopped doing because of his wife’s displeasure.

Afterwards, the pair dated for eight years before Wahlberg wedded her in 2009. Since then, Durham has had a significant influence on Wahlberg’s career. Before their marriage, Wahlberg was able to do films at various locations with little concern. Something inevitable has started to happen. Hardcore movie fans have stopped buying Blu-rays (although they’re in the midst of a slight comeback). Maybe it was the pandemic, when we were all stuck at home, or perhaps it was the closure of all of our favorite mom-and-pop physical media stores, but fans started to build digital libraries rather than physical ones. I get it. One of the reasons I got into buying movies on iTunes was that whenever a fancy new 4K restoration came out, they would upgrade the version you already bought. But, as Christopher Nolan warned recently, you should buy the movies you love on physical media because when you own something digitally, you don’t really own it.
Here’s why:
Digital Copies are basically long-term rentals:

Leonardo DiCaprio revealed to E! News that he has thanked Sharon Stone “many times” for paying his acting salary in 1995 when the studio refused to cast him in Sam Raimi’s revisionist Western drama “The Quick and the Dead.” DiCaprio was coming off his Oscar-nominated breakthrough role in “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” at the time, and Stone was quite eager to work with the young star. She was adamant about casting DiCaprio and Russel Crowe in the film, and she was willing to pay for it.
“She said, ‘These are the two actors I want to work with,'” DiCaprio recalled. “It’s incredible. She’s been a huge champion of cinema and giving other actors opportunities, so I’m very thankful.”
“I’ve thanked her many times,” he added. “I don’t know if I sent her an actual, physical thank-you gift, but I cannot thank her enough.”

Mark Wahlberg had a funky bunch of acting roles on his resume beginning in the mid-’90s but found that he had to put more focus on producing if he was going to try to compete directly with the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise.
Speaking with Cigar Aficionado, Mark Wahlberg said, “I started becoming a producer out of necessity…I didn’t want to sit around waiting for Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise or whoever was already established before me and were the guys at the time, and Leo [DiCaprio], to go and pass on a movie until I could get my hands on it. I was always proactive in trying to find material and things that I could produce, that I knew was right for me, create my own destiny.”

The Basketball Diaries was one of Wahlberg’s first breakout roles as a film star. He was making his transition over to Hollywood after his brief stint as hip hop artist Marky Mark. But his roles in The Basketball Diaries, and his subsequent film Fear, seemed to attach an unfavorable image to the actor.
“People were afraid of me after roles in Fear and Basketball Diaries,” Wahlberg once told Sun Journal.
In Basketball Diaries, Wahlberg played a young and mischievous troublemaker with a rebellious streak. In Fear, Wahlberg played the mysterious and intimidating boyfriend of co-star Reese Witherspoon.

Michael Imperioli is taking a stand against “bigots and homophobes” and doesn’t want him to watch his work. The actor’s comments come after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that a web designer could refuse to provide services for same-sex weddings.
“I’ve decided to forbid bigots and homophobes from watching The Sopranos, The White Lotus, Goodfellas or any movie or tv show I’ve been in,” he posted on Instagram. “Thank you Supreme Court for allowing me to discriminate and exclude those who I don’t agree with and am opposed to. USA! USA!”
Imperioli would add replies to his post furthering his stance saying “hate and ignorance is not a legitimate point of view” and adding that the ruling is dehumanizing.
“America is becoming dumber by the minute,” he also replied.

The 1984 movie Ghostbusters was an instant classic, and over the years, it has only become more beloved. Fans love the movie for the witty dialogue, the original concept, and, of course, the iconic characters. One of these characters is Winston Zeddemore, played to perfection by Ernie Hudson. Sardonic and laid-back, Winston was the perfect accompaniment to the rambunctious trio of scientists, played by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis. However, behind the scenes, Hudson struggled to feel included in Ghostbusters, as he revealed in a recent interview with SiriusXM.

He started his career as a child in the TV series Romper Room but honed his acting skills in the Growing Pains. Since not one critic or interviewer has seen “Avatar: The Way of Water” yet (though screening invites have finally gone out for early December) James Cameron’s highly pinpointed press tour thus far has featured a great deal of reflection on his hits of the past.
For example, his recent conversation with GQ revealed this little chestnut from a generation ago. While Leonardo DiCaprio was always high on Cameron’s list for the role of Jack Dawson, it very nearly didn’t come together.
The filmmaker explained that at the first meeting, the star of “The Basketball Diaries” and “Romeo + Juliet,” was met by a packed room of every female employee of Cameron’s company. “There’s a female executive producer, okay, fine, but our accountant? They all wanted to meet Leo. It was hysterical,” he said.

It’s no secret that “Titanic” was a challenging production, after which filmmaker James Cameron and his cast and crew were vindicated by the film’s enormous critical and commercial success. But 25 years later, Cameron still has new stories to tell about the many ways in which “Titanic” could have gone differently, revealing in a new interview that Leonardo DiCaprio initially wanted his character Jack to be imbued with a more tragic backstory or physical affliction.
Cameron, who is readying the release of his first “Avatar” sequel, detailed in a new video interview with GQ how DiCaprio came to him with notes on the screenplay (which Cameron wrote).
“So then I finally get the studio to agree to it, then Leonardo comes back in and he says, ‘You know my dad and I have been talking about the script and we really think it needs this and this and this and this.

Timothée Chalamet, the 26-year-old costar of Luca Guadagnino’s “Bones and All” (United Artists), inspires slavish fans and critical praise — not unlike Leonardo DiCaprio 25 years ago when he made “Titanic.” The similarities in their trajectories are remarkable. Precociously talented; acclaimed portrayals of sensitive adolescents; risky roles; early, passionate followings by teenage girls; and acting Oscar nomination before the age of 27 (in Chalamet’s case lead).
Their significant difference is Chalamet stands at the threshold of a major career. By the same point in his own work, DiCaprio could have retired and be considered an iconic star. None of this diminishes Chalamet’s significant achievements, but it highlights differences in their eras.
“Bones and All” is no “Titanic” (not that anything is). The best-case scenario for this 16 million-budgeted drama is a breakout, not a blockbuster. Guadagnino has established a reputation for edgy, R-rated films with significant (and stylish) sex and violence.

Maybe it’s out forever—leaving school behind as our heroes and antiheroes spend long, hot days laying about in the city or countryside, anticipating college dreams or fearing a return to the classroom. Or, more likely, not thinking of studies at all, just anticipating the next summer day and how to score more thrills. As the season winds down, here is a mix that is an ode to the teenage summer—so wonderfully captured in many films—a choice selection that evokes endless possibilities: sweat, love, passion, booze, drugs, and questions of the great unknown just around the corner. The characters of these summertime stories are either breaking hearts, heartbroken, running from hell or somewhere lost in between. Some favorite moments include the confusion, chaos and otherworldly essence of Gheorghe Zamfir’s flute from the unforgettable score for Peter Weir...

Leonardo DiCaprio almost played one of Hollywood’s iconic legends on the big screen.
In an interview with Deadline about his new novel Heat 2, director Michael Mann reveals he once had plans to adapt James Dean’s life into a biopic. He even had his leading man in mind – a young DiCaprio.
“That was so weird about James Dean. It was a brilliant screenplay. And then it’s who the hell could play James Dean?” recalled Mann. “And I found a chap who could play James Dean, but he was too young.”

Let's face it: For the most part, basketball movies are bad. It's such a beautiful game, filled with such balletic human athleticism, that it seems like a natural fit for cinema. And yet, there are only a handful of great basketball films, and only one real masterpiece.
The reason for the relatively low quality, even compared to football films, seems to be that most serious directors aren't big fans of the game. Spike Lee is the only notable exception. Basketball is otherwise largely a backdrop for mediocre comedies, like Billy Crystal's "Forget Paris," or Whoopi Goldberg's even more forgettable "Eddie." Even Will Ferrell couldn't make the game all that amusing in his ode to the funky pre-nba-merger era, "Semi-Pro."

Leonardo DiCaprio’s eternal youth and boyish looks may have helped his timeless stardom in Hollywood, but it only hurt his chances of starring in a James Dean biopic.

Darryl Hall and John Oates were fresh-off-the-plane clueless. It was fall 1971 and they’d come to California seeking the same thing as everyone else who comes to California — for them, it just manifested as a record contract. All they had were their instruments, songs, and a contact at the publishing company Chappell Music. They didn’t even know you needed a car to get around Los Angeles.
“We were kind of stuck,” Oates tells Rolling Stone, remembering how they drifted from hotel to bar to greasy spoon to label lunches that went nowhere.

Actor, producer and director Norman Lloyd, best known for his title role in Hitchcock’s “Saboteur” and as Dr. Daniel Auschlander on NBC’s “St. Elsewhere” and famously associated with Orson Welles’ Mercury Theater, died Tuesday at his home in Los Angeles. He was 106.
His friend, producer Dean Hargrove, confirmed his death and said “His third act was really the best time of his life,” referring to the many historical Hollywood retrospectives and events Lloyd had participated in over the past few decades. Lloyd often said his secret to his long and mostly illness-free life was “avoiding disagreeable people,” Hargrove recounted.
Lloyd was hand-picked by Alfred Hitchcock to play the title character and villain in 1942’s “Saboteur,” and it was his character who tumbled to his death from the top of the Statue of Liberty in the pic’s iconic conclusion.

It’s that time of year again for basketball fans — March Madness is in full swing for collegiate teams, and the NBA playoffs are just weeks away. Basketball fans are a loyal bunch, following the excitement of the sport, with its heart-stopping beat-the-buzzer moments, dramatic plays and fast action whipping from one end of the court to the other. It’s no wonder that basketball makes for great cinema – and its players are capable of being part of the show.
There have been some great basketball films over the years, ranging from lowbrow comedies like “Celtic Pride” to family fare such as “Like Mike” to inspirational stories like “Coach Carter.” Some have used the sport as a way to shine a light on social issues over the years, with films like “Cornbread, Earl and Me” and “The Basketball Diaries” remaining relevant decades after their premieres. In between scoring his first Oscar nomination with “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” (1993) and the career-making releases of “Romeo + Juliet” (1996) and “Titanic” (1997), Leonardo DiCaprio starred in three 1995 releases that shaped his image as a rising actor: “The Basketball Diaries,” “The Quick and the Dead,” and “Total Eclipse.” The middle title starred DiCaprio opposite Sharon Stone in a Sam Raimi-directed revisionist Western about a woman gunslinger (Stone) who visits a frontier town and clashes with its leader (Gene Hackman). Stone was a producer on the project and reveals in her new book, “The Beauty of Living Twice” (via Insider), she paid for DiCaprio’s salary herself after studio TriStar Pictures refused to cast him.

‘Run Hide Fight’ Review: Glib Cinestate Thriller Turns a School Shooting into a Clichéd Action Movie
You might not expect Cinestate — the right-leaning Dallas production company responsible for “Dragged Across Concrete,” “Brawl in Cell Block 99,” and allegedly enabling a pattern of sexual abuse by producer Adam Donaghey — to create a sensitive and thought-provoking film about America’s epidemic of school shootings, but even if you lowered the bar down to the ninth layer of hell the company’s latest and least defensible effort would still manage to slink under it. An unholy cross between “Elephant” and “Die Hard” that depicts an armed attack on a Texas high school with all the realism of Dana Loesch’s wet dreams, “Run Hide Fight” is . It’s a movie made by someone who’s seen too many movies, and now made at least one too many as well.

But nothing quite prepared me for a tender moment between Andy Warhol and poet John Giorno 80 pages into his memoir, Great Demon Kings, on that day in 1963.

Seemingly every hot young actor in Hollywood wanted to star in The Basketball Diaries at some point. The decades-long journey to bring Jim Carroll's gut punch of a memoir to the big screen was finally at the casting crossroads, and it was time to fill the role of the former teen basketball talent, hustler and heroin addict who splashed onto the literary scene chronicling his demons and became a celebrated writer, poet, punk rocker and all-around New York cultural icon unto himself. From Matt Dillon and River Phoenix to Ethan Hawke and Eric Stoltz, the 1980s' freshest faces had all been ready to get dirty at some point over the years. But the years kept going by, and the project...

The Evolution of Leonardo DiCaprio: From ‘Growing Pains’ to ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ (Photos)
For nearly 30 years, Leonardo DiCaprio has managed to maintain an image as a handsome, Hollywood heartthrob and as one of the industry’s most bankable and pedigreed performers. While he’s consistently been at the top of the A-list, the roles DiCaprio has taken have changed dramatically. In “Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood,” DiCaprio lends his star power to help Quentin Tarantino shape a new Tinsel Town legend. Here’s how the actor has evolved over the years:
“Growing Pains” (1991)
After guest starring on “Roseanne” and “Parenthood,” DiCaprio landed a role on the long-running sitcom “Growing Pains.” He played Luke Brower, a homeless student in the class of young school teacher Mike (Kirk Cameron) that the Seaver family take in until he is reunited with his father.

Cheers to Marky Mark and his funky (and fun) bunch of movie roles! Today, Mark Wahlberg turns 48 years old and boy oh boy the man is just getting better with age. Sure, we will forever be grateful for his Calvin Klein ads and his epic rap game when he was known as Marky Mark in the early '90s, but his time as an actor is really what we're thankful for today. After following in his big brother Donnie Wahlberg's footsteps in the music industry, the Boston native shot onto the movie scene in 1995 with a role in The Basketball Diaries. He then wowed fans with his role as a porn star in Boogie Nights and by the early '00s he was everywhere. From The Perfect Storm and Planet of...
