April Ferry, the Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning costume designer known for her work on Big Trouble in Little China, Maverick, Rome and Game of Thrones, died Thursday, the Costume Designers Guild announced. She was 91.
Ferry, who graduated to costume designer on Lawrence Kasdan’s The Big Chill (1983), collaborated with John Hughes on Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987), She’s Having a Baby (1988) and Flubber (1997) and with Jonathan Mostow on U-571 (2000), Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003) and Surrogates (2009).
She received her Academy Award nom for Richard Donner’s reimagining of Maverick (1994) — she lost out to Lizzy Gardiner and Tim Chappel of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert on Oscar night — and won her Emmy in 2006 for HBO’s Rome.
Her résumé also included Made in Heaven (1987), Child’s Play (1988), The Babe (1992), Donner’s Radio Flyer (1992), Unlawful Entry (1992), Free Willy (1993), Beethoven’s 2nd (1993), Little Giants (1994), Donnie Darko (2001), Elysium (2013), RoboCop (2014) and Jurassic World (2015).

The new year is continuing apace at Hulu. The streamer’s list of new releases for February 2022 is highlighted by one very interesting project.
Pam and Tommy is set to premiere on Feb. 2. Perhaps the Groundhog Day release date is intentional as the show will cover a particular moment of celebrity, sex, and exploitation from the early ’90s that seems to have repeated itself over and over. Sebastian Stan and Lily James star as Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson and the series follows the events and fallout of their homemade sex tape being stolen and unleashed on a nascent internet. If nothing else, getting the promo photos of Stan and James as the ’90s stars was worth it.

Three of this year’s Oscar nominated tunes were penned by Black songwriters: Celeste reaped a bid (along with Daniel Pemberton) for “Hear My Voice” from “The Trial of the Chicago”; D’Mile, recent Grammy champ H.E.R. and Tiara Thomas collaborated on “Fight for You” from “Judas and the Black Messiah”; and supporting actor nominee Leslie Odom Jr. was cited with Nashville based singer/songwriter Sam Ashworth for “Speak Now” from “One Night in Miami.”
The first Black tunesmith to contend for Best Original Song at the Oscars was Quincy Jones who was nominated in 1967 (alongside lyricist Bob Russell) for “The Eyes of Love” from the long-forgotten “Banning.” (Jones earned the first of his four score Oscar nominations that same year for “In Cold Blood.”) He and Russell reaped another bid the following year for the title tune from “For Love of Ivy.” His last nomination to date was in 1985 for...

Unless I'm dressed as wisecracking dognapper Debi Mazar in Beethoven's 2nd, I find Halloween kind of a drag. It requires too much forethought and Cvs shopping, and I'm at the age when I've probably had too many fun-size Snickers and popcorn orbs for a lifetime. But one spooky tradition of mine will never die, just like Michael Myers himself: I always watch Halloween on October 31, and not just because it's one of the three scariest movies I've seen (including Scream and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), but because it actually captures the essence of the holiday itself: a drab, suburban, hokey affair with some seriously scary undertones. The day is stupid and cheesy, but it also feels like the wrong night to babysit. Particularly if you're a naughty babysitter who seems like an awful friend.
As a thriller, Halloween is slower than what we're used to now, but that just cements its towering legacy further.

I know the horrors of gay Halloween. You're burdened with the potential to impress everyone, and since I consider the holiday a chance to exhibit wit and superiority, you're basically obligated to design a costume that says "grandeur." Well, look no further: Nothing delights a crowd like '90s nostalgia, and since nothing delights me more than unfeeling women of '90s TV and movies, I've decided to let you in on a secret. These are the best five options for Halloween costumes -- If you have the nerve and resourcefulness to pull it off. Let's take a hard look at some bad-ass women in order to save this holiday from muscle twinks and their un-creative Ryan Lochte "costumes."

Like you had any doubt that the Farrelly brothers could come up with something cleverer than "Dumb and Dumberer"?
"Dumb and Dumber To" is not just a working title -- it's the official one. The officially endorsed sequel to "Dumb and Dumber" already has its original directors and cast on board, and now is close to having a script as well. The Farrellys seem really excited about the project, and we're really excited that "Dumb and Dumber To" is actually what this flick is going to be called.
"You also might be interested to know that we are almost done with the Dumb and Dumber To (sic) script," Peter and Bobby Farrelly tweeted from their joint Twitter account. "I think you're going to like it."
These two aren't the only directors to come up with clever ways to get around the boring "2." After the jump we've listed off some of...

Ashley Hamilton (Beethoven's 2nd, "Dancing With the Stars"), the son of George Hamilton and a personal friend of Robert Downey Jr, is in talks to join the cast of "Iron Man 3" as the villainous Firepower. The role is considered small. The character seems like a good fit, considering all the rumors. Firepower is an experimental government armored suit piloted by Jack Taggert (Hamilton). At one point, he was enlisted by the Mandarin and Zeke Stane to destroy Tony Stark. And Zeke Stane is the son of Obadiah Stane, Jeff Bridges' character in the first film. Meanwhile, "Iron Man" director Jon Favreau updated his Twitter account with a photo showing that he'll return to play Happy Hogan, despite the fact that Shane Black is directing the third installment. "Iron Man 3" stars filming this months in North Carolina and will hit theaters on May 3rd, 2013. Favreau's Photo:...

Ashley Hamilton is, according to Variety , up for a small villain role as the Marvel Comics character Firepower in Shane Black's Iron Man 3 . Meanwhile, Jon Favreau has tweeted the below visual confirmation that, while he won't be back in the director's chair this time around, Happy Hogan will again be seen in front of the camera. A relative unknown, Hamilton regularly appeared on the television series "Sunset Beach" and played a villainous role in 1993's Beethoven's 2nd . Though he's been seen in various alternate iterations over the years, Firepower first appeared in "Iron Man" #230 in 1988, and is an experimental suit piloted by Jack Taggert. The character recently appeared in issue #513, enlisted by the Mandarin and Zeke Stane (the son of Obadiah Stane,...

This weekend, the 84th Academy Awards will, finally, put an end to the endless lack of debates that are happening right now about who will take home Oscar gold. Historically, the Oscars are a night when the best of the best are pitted against one another: Where, in the past, films like Citizen Kane, The Godfather and Norbit all compete for immortality. Oscar fever, catch it! What's that? Oh, yeah, Norbit was nominated for an Academy Award. In fact, there are a lot of movies that were nominated for an Academy Award in a plethora of different categories that you probably had no idea were "Academy Award-nominated movies." So, with that, here are the most absurd Academy Award-nominated movies from the last 20 years, in no particular order. (So, congratulations, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, you can now proudly mention yourself in the same sentence as Beethoven's 2nd.) 1. Norbit, Oscar-Nominated Movie (Best Makeup) 2. "Ghostbusters 3" has slowly shown its shape. After tapping Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky to write the script, the film is now on board with Ivan Reitman serving behind the lens. A sad and surprising loss today, as acclaimed writer/director/producer John Hughes passed away from a heart attack.
One doesn't immediately think about Hughes' connection to video games, but there were a few games over the years, based on his classic films.
Home Alone and Home Alone 2
Hughes wrote and produced the "Home Alone" films, and there were video games based on the first two. They're pretty mediocre side scrolling action games, but they do feature strange, pixelated stills from the movies, which I guess is worth something.
Beethoven's 2nd
Based on characters created by Hughes, "Beethoven's 2nd" puts you in control of the massive pup as he journeys about a city trying to find his lost puppies.
Dennis
Released in 1993, "Dennis" was based on the "Dennis the Menace" movie that Hughes wrote and produced. Another side-scrolling platformer which featured Dennis basically terrorizing Mr. Wilson. Pretty true to the franchise,...
