Daniel Craig first started performing when he was a child, entertaining barflies at the pub his parents ran. He'd perform impersonations of celebrities he'd seen on television. "I'd get money," Craig told GQ of his early acting efforts. "I suppose I've been making a living out of this from a very early age." While studying at the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain, Craig made his professional acting debut at 16 in a Shakespeare production, quickly establishing himself as one of Britain's finest young actors. Craig was 32 when he was cast as James Bond in 2006's "Casino Royale" -- a role that would forever change his life. He played 007 in four more films, including his 2021 Bond swan song, "No Time To Die."
There's no argument that Bond has been Craig's signature role — not surprising since he holds the record as the longest-running 007, portraying him for 15 years. But those spy films,...

Though the confusingly named initiative “FX on Hulu” is on its way out, FX is still bringing premium television to Hulu in the meantime.
Hulu’s list of new releases for April 2022 is highlighted by FX limited series Under the Banner of Heaven. This adaptation of the non-fiction book by John Krakauer stars Andrew Garfield as a Mormon police detective whose faith is shaken when investigating a murder involving the church.
It’s not all just FX on the TV side of things for Hulu this month, however. The streamer is debuting second seasons of its series The Hardy Boys (April 6) and Woke (April 8). There isn’t much to report from Hulu’s original movies arm aside from true crime documentary Captive Audience on April 21. But that doc about one family’s 50-year journey for justice sounds like a must-watch.

Bootsy Collins has released a new video for “Want Me 2 Stay” — his take on Sly and the Family Stone’s 1973 hit “If You Want Me to Stay” — featuring the song’s original bassist, Larry Graham, as well as Branford Marsalis and Uché Ndubizu.
The simple clip puts the song front-and-center, with Collins, Graham, Uché, and horn player Brennan Johns all performing in front of an array of psychedelic backgrounds (Marsalis does not appear in the clip). The scenery behind Uché remains comparatively calm, but that only heightens the emphasis on his stellar vocals.

By the time he came to worldwide prominence in 1976, John G. Avildsen had already done what some of Hollywood’s greatest ever directors had failed to do: win Jack Lemmon a Best Actor Oscar. Last evening Daniel Craig took to the stage for a 90 minute interview as part of the New Yorker Festival, sponsored by the legendary magazine. The interview took place at New York's School Visual Arts. Craig, who is not known to be enamored of engaging in interviews, was clearly in a feisty and humorous mood and attributed his presence at the event as a sign of his long-standing respect for the New Yorker magazine. The wide-ranging discussion covered a multitude of topics with the predominant subject unsurprisingly being James Bond. Craig was sporting a bleached blonde crew cut for a forthcoming role that made him bare a resemblance to the legendary Bond villain Red Grant, played memorably by Robert Shaw in "From Russia With Love". The Power of One: Nichols’ Sci-Fi Studio Film a Wispy Homage
Indie director Jeff Nichols makes his first crossover to studio fare with Midnight Special, his auteur clout securing the film a competition slot in the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival just prior to a stateside release. Returning once more with his frequent collaborator, actor Michael Shannon, who has appeared in all three of his previous films, it is a particularly specific homage to popularized names like Steven Spielberg and John Carpenter, particularly from their early, celebrated period of genre infused event filmmaking in the early 1980s. But this highly uneven and distressingly cold narrative never manages to finds its stride, complete with a cast of anemic characters who never come to life behind the notable visage of well-known actors.
Roy Tomlin (Shannon) has abducted his biological son Alton (Jaeden Lieberher) from the religious cult he grew up in.

From Tarzan swinging in on a vine to Iron Man flying in on his jets, a hero isn’t a hero unless he can swoop in and save the damsel or the day. The only thing more exciting is if the clock is ticking on his escape. Whether it’s from a burning building,...

Exclusive: Actor Stephen Dorff has signed with Paradigm. Last year he moved to Resolution from Gersh to return to longtime agent David Unger, but the agency folded in October. Dorff started his career with films like The Power Of One, Judgment Night, and Backbeat in the ’90s — around the time he famously had Alicia Silverstone cryin’ in an Aerosmith music video. He has appeared steadily onscreen since, with credits ranging from vampire actioner Blade to John Waters’ Cecil B. DeMented, Lee Daniels’ Shadowboxer, Sofia Coppola’s Somewhere, Michael Mann’s Public Enemies, and Oliver Stone’s World Trade Center.
Dorff starred in recent indie Zaytoun and The Motel Life opposite Emile Hirsch and Dakota Fanning, which premiered at the Rome Film Festival and won the Audience Award for Best Film. Forthcoming films include the recently-wrapped American Hero opposite Eddie Griffin for director Nick Love, drama Oliver’s Deal from exec producer Christine Vachon,...

Before March 2006, there were no limits on what web users could say - but then Twitter was born. On Friday, the social network celebrates eight years of keeping feelings under 140 characters. Since its creation, Twitter has attracted over 218 million active users who churn out billions of tweets each day. Among these tweetaholics are world leaders, celebrities, astrophysicists - and even inanimate objects - eager to share their thoughts with the world. Despite all these virtual voices and countless hashtags, select posts still manage to stand apart. Twitter shared some of the most memorable tweets from the past eight years with People.

The Top 10 "American Idol" finalists were finally named Thursday night, and America got it right.Despite all the talk of relevancy and marketability, viewers voted for the best singers. After Wednesday night's downer, the results night had a largely positive feel, with the finalists singing victory songs and leaving strong impressions. Here are your "American Idol" Season 12 Top 10 (who I correctly predicted here and here):1. Paul JolleyPaul has been constantly criticized for his theatricality all season long, but this is a show. He's the closest thing to a Wgwg (white guy with guitar) this season, so he was a shoo-in. 2. Burnell TaylorI'm a shameless Burnell supporter. He's got a great story and sound. I actually though his performance to Indie.Arie's "Ready For Love" was his weakest of the season, but it was still great. I hope America will "get him," because he's a dark horse in my book.

How do you take the task of announcing the names of American Idol‘s Season 12 finalists and stretch it out over a 90-minute telecast? Well, you can start with a super-awkward framework for the episode that requires Ryan Seacrest to dash back and forth from the stage to a tiny holding room, retrieving finalists one at a time and leaving the unfortunate castoffs to stew in their own anxiety and terror.
The good news, however, is that Nigel Lythgoe & Co. introduced the idea of a victory song for each singer before he or she decamped to the Idol Couches of Safety (Tm). Okay,...

It's been a long and emotional road for the American Idol season 12 hopefuls.
And tonight the American Idol judges turned the voting over to America to let the public determine the fate of their chosen 20. Half of them will go home. The other half will go on to battle it out for the American Idol crown.
Who will be the Top 10? Let's find out now...
After playing Mariah Carey's latest single "Almost Home," from the Oz soundtrack, Ryan finally makes his way back to the guys' holding room.
The first person into the Top 10 is Paul Jolley. His "victory song" is "Alone" by Heart. Apparently he didn't get the memo that Carrie Underwood wrote the master class in covering this song and no one else should try it. Especially not him. Oh well. Welcome to the Top 10, Paul.

The sequel to 2011's super hit comedy Yamla Pagla Deewana starring the Deols is all set to go on floors this year, but instead of Samir Karnik, the sequel will be directed by Sangeeth Sivan.
Sangeeth Sivan has earlier worked with Sunny Deol in Zor and Bobby in Ek-The Power Of One, so when he was asked by the Deols if he would be interested in doing the sequel to Yamla Pagla Deewana, Sivan immediately agreed. The sequel will retain the old characters but will have a completely different story.
Apart from Yamla Pagla Deewana 2, Sangeeth is also working with Bobby and Dharamendra in film called Cheers, which is a beautiful story of a father and son. Cheers will go on floors after Yamla Pagla Deewana is complete.

When you see Morgan Freeman, maybe you see God. Or the president of the United States. Or Nelson Mandela, or a kindly old convict, chauffeur, boxing trainer or superhero's business manager. Because he's played all those roles, and he always seems to have the answers to everything, doesn't he? And that voice! We'd buy a bag of broken light bulbs if he only narrated the commercial.
Everything out of Morgan Freeman's mouth not only sounds wise, it Is wise -- and we have proof in this video compilation of every deep, life-changing line the man ever said. Get busy watching this mashup, or get busy dying.
Movies Included (Click to Buy):
Glory | The Bucket List | Evan Almighty | March of the Penguins | Feast of Love | Dreamcatcher | Invictus | Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves | Amistad | Moll Flanders | Unleashed | Edison Force | Along Came a Spider | The Shawshank Redemption | An Unfinished Life | 10 Items...

It is not very often that movie blogs can discuss politics. Why would we want to? It is a tricky subject best avoided. However, this is just a political topic that just can not be avoided.
After several allegations of sexual harassment, affairs, and other debauchery, Herman Cain decided to drop out of the 2012 Presidential Race. During his debate speeches and also in his book, Cain quoted something that sounded very familiar and only credited it to a "poet". More accurately, the quote was actually lyrics from 'The Power of One' by Donna Summer which was a popular track in Pokemon: The Movie 2000.

Herman Cain wanted to be the very best, like no one ever was, but his quest to catch 'em all ended on Saturday.
The businessman and Gop presidential candidate stepped aside from the race on Saturday, bowing to falling polling numbers and growing sex scandal-related controversy. It was a sad moment for the conservatives who backed him, but a happy one for many video game and anime fans, as during his announcement, he finally admitted that he had been quoting Pokémon during various other speeches.

Big big day in the VH1 offices today. There I was, just hanging around in people’s offices eating all their Starburst (a euphemism for how I’m going to get diabetes), when all of a sudden, my eyes shot open, my head cocked to its side, and I had my first real life Long Island Medium moment: Stephen Dorff was in the building. He was here to make an appearance on Big Morning Buzz Live to promote his new movie Immortals. But the real buzz going around the office was that Stephen Dorff looked better than ever. Very little had changed since Sfw. I started to panic. What would happen if I got Dorff’d in my very own office hallway? What would I say? Would I tell him how I once bought The Power of One soundtrack on cassette at a museum gift shop while on a school field trip?...

British actor Daniel Craig was once almost barred from entering the U.S. because border officials were suspicious of the then-aspiring star's intentions for moving to America.
The James Bond hunk had just accepted one of his first-ever acting roles in the film The Power of One and headed across the Atlantic Ocean to pursue his Hollywood ambitions.
But the dream was almost over before it had even begun when he came face-to-face with strict U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials, who quizzed him endlessly about his travel plans.
He recalls, "I did this little movie for Warner Bros back in 1990... I didn't have a credit card. I didn't have a driver's licence. And I didn't have any money. I got to Customs, and they nearly turned me away.
"They literally said, 'How are you going to support yourself?' and I went, 'Ah, I don't know.' So I was grilled at Customs for about an hour."...

Last week, I had the opportunity to spend about 90 minutes — 45 of them recorded — at New York’s Bowery hotel with the actor Stephen Dorff, 37, who is earning the best reviews of his career for his performance as a movie star in quiet crisis at Hollywood’s fabled Chateau Marmont hotel in Sofia Coppola’s meditative film “Somewhere” (Focus Features, 12/22, R, trailer). Dorff and I had planned to chat in the lobby, but when the hotel staff blocked me from filming him there he graciously invited me up to his room to have a couple of beers and shoot it there. Suffice it to say that it was more than a little surreal to walk in and find a scene very much like the one his character inhabits throughout Coppola’s picture — sans stripper poles, sadly.
Over the course of our conversation, Dorff and I discussed a wide-range of topics:

The power of one man or one woman doing the right thing for the right reason, and at the right time, is the greatest influence in our society (according to former Us congressman Jack Kemp). And The Power of Few? It's a thriller set to reunite Christopher Walken and Christian Slater for the first time since True Romance. There are, appropriately, few details so far, so it's unclear what roles the pair will take in the film, which will also co-star Frank Potente and Anthony Anderson. But we do know that Q'orianka Kilcher (The New World's Pocahontas) will be taking the lead, as a young woman who agrees to transport a mysterious package, and finds herself embroiled in a world-threatening global conspiracy. It's a generic sounding plot, but an interesting cast, and kudos must be heaped on the young Kilcher for self-producing through her Iq Films and securing a strong lead.

When word first hit that Sofia Coppola was finally gearing up for a new film after 2006's Marie Antoinette, and that she was bringing Stephen Dorff along for the ride, I felt one of those all-too-rare jolts of premature and exorbitant anticipation. Though I love much of Coppola's work, it wasn't for her alone, but that she was offering the possibility of something I'd been hoping for for years -- for Dorff to get his modern due. (Much like Erik calling him the next Mickey Rourke.)
I've loved him since The Power of One, and most especially when he's basking in unique indies like I Shot Andy Warhol and Cecil B. Demented. But no matter what talents he's shown, he's always danced outside the spotlight. But now there's happy news: I really think Coppola's new feature, Somewhere, might change that, and I'm not just speaking from fangirl glee. The new trailer backs me up.

Portraying Nelson Mandela has defeated many actors, but not Morgan Freeman. The star of Invictus tells Bill Keller about shadowing – and embodying – the South African leader
Morgan Freeman has been cast as God – twice – so he evidently has no trouble projecting moral authority. The challenge of portraying Nelson Mandela, then, was not the size of the halo, but knowing the performance would be measured against the real, familiar Mandela, and his myth. The role has defeated actors as varied as Danny Glover (in the 1987 TV film Mandela), Sidney Poitier (Mandela and de Klerk, 1997, also for TV) and Dennis Haysbert (Goodbye Bafana, 2007), in vehicles that were reverential and mostly forgettable.
