Sex & Nudity

  • Plot includes the sexual relationships during the war years of an extended family. This includes married relationships but more often extramarital sex or marital infidelity of both men and women. All sex scenes are either implied or heard, but never actually shown. All sex depicted is heterosexual and one threesome is shown. Other topics include indecent exposure to a child, mention of rape and mention of child abuse. Nudity is predominantly female, although occasional male mainly nonexplicit nudity is seen.

Violence & Gore

  • Film takes place during World War II. Air raids and bombings are heard. There is an intense scene when a woman is giving birth during a bombing. No blood is shown. A man is dredged from the water with a rope and pulley but it is not graphic; it is reported this German pilot was purposely drowned by the fisherman who found him. Reported domestic abuse of wife by husband; no bruise or visible injury.

Profanity

  • 7+ uses of the F-word. Other uses of damn, hell, bastard, etc. Film is set in England so there may be British curse words which I would not recognize. Possibly "bugger," "bloody," "bounder," and the like.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Drinking and smoking frequently shown throughout film.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Film takes place during World War II. Air raids and bombings are heard. There is an intense scene when a woman is giving birth during a bombing. No blood is shown. A young girl is the only aid to the woman giving birth. A young girl who, it is implied, has been being flashed by a man, screams, and is later catatonic in the hospital. It is later revealed that the girl attempted to push past the man on a steep ledge and the man fell off the cliff to his death. A man is dredged from a lake with a rope and pulley but it is not graphic.
