Martin Campbell shoots straight as a filmmaker and a talker. He knows what he likes and what he doesn't like. For one, he's not a fan of this day and age of largely computer-generated action. The filmmaker is old-school and continues to rely on real stunts to tell his stories, including his latest film, "Memory." It's a nasty revenge movie that's more in line with his dark thrillers, such as "Criminal Law" and "The Foreigner," than his big blockbusters like "Casino Royale."
Campbell's latest is one of the few remakes in his career. It's based on the Dutch film, "The Memory of a Killer." He stuck...

As always, there’s an enormous haul of originals and newly licensed titles going up across Netflix, Disney Plus, HBO Max, Hulu and Prime Video over the month, including content from every genre out there.
The first day of September brings the usual lengthy list of movies arriving on most of the sites. Just a few of the highlights include all three Back to the Future films returning to Netflix, every entry in the Twilight saga arriving on Hulu and countless iconic movies going up on HBO Max, including Grease, Miss Congeniality and V for Vendetta. Also, Doctor Who fans will want to take note, as the most recent season of the show lands on HBO Max the same day.

As one of the weirder “back to school” seasons in living memory rolls out, Hulu is heading back to school in its own way for September 2020.
The biggest Hulu original arriving to the streaming services stream this month is season 2 of coming-of-age comedy Pen15…which of course stars two adults who have already come of age playing their middle school selves.
Speaking of middle school, perhaps the biggest non-original addition to the Hulu library this month is the arrival of all The Twilight Saga movies on September 1. That should prove to be a real nostalgia trip for interested parties. Other library titles of note include Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, The Terminator, and 2019’s Judy on September 25.
Bookending Hulu’s originals this month is another intriguing comedy, Woke. This series will star Lamorne Morris as a Black cartoonist who gets an unexpected wakeup call.

Has this ever happened to you? You’re sitting there, minding your own business, reading your comic books, when something in the story makes you go, “Now, that’s not right!” Of course you have. You can probably count on the fingers of one hand, the number of times you’ve read recent comic books and haven’t found something that made you say that. And probably still have enough fingers left over for an obscene gesture.
I have a confession to make, I’ve done it, too. The difference being, when you do it you can complain on a message board or something. When I do it, then I get to do this…

In fact, his exact phrase to The Guardian in a 2013 interview was, "going down the toilet," which he claims happened to him after his breakout moment in the hit 1984 blockbuster "Footloose." He’s not entirely wrong. What followed after the smash that was "Footloose" were films like "She’s Having a Baby," "Criminal Law," "End of the Line" and "Tremors," the latter of which he said caused him to have a mental breakdown. A version of this story first appeared in the print edition of TheWrap Magazine’s Emmy Comedy-Drama Issue. When Viola Davis stepped on a Philadelphia set to shoot the pilot for a new Shonda Rhimes drama in 2013, strutted up to a chalkboard and said the line, “This is Criminal Law 100–or as I prefer to call it, ‘How to Get Away With Murder,'” little did she know that the show would thrust her into the Emmy race two years later. But she probably wouldn’t have been fazed even if she’d known: The veteran actress had already won a Tony and.

Hemdale became one of the largest indie studios of the 80s with films like The Terminator and Platoon. Ryan charts its turbulent history...
When Platoon won four Oscars in 1987, it marked not only a new chapter in Oliver Stone's career as a filmmaker, but also the end of a decade-long battle. Since the 1970s, Stone had been struggling to make his harrowing account of the horrors he'd seen firsthand as a soldier in the Vietnam conflict, but was famously turned down by every major studio in Hollywood.
Platoon, and Stone, finally found sanctuary at a small independent studio with a grand-sounding name: the Hemdale Film Corporation. It was Hemdale, and its co-founder John Daly, that had taken a chance on Stone, and when Platoon came out in 1986, the gamble proved to be a shrewd one: its $6m investment was covered by the first month's ticket sales, and the film...

How to Get Away with Murder, the latest primetime drama from Shonda Rhimes' Shondaland, stars Viola Davis as defense attorney and Middletown Law School professor Annalise Keating, who teaches the Criminal Law class that appropriately bears the nickname that's the show's title.
'How To Get Away With Murder' Recap
Annalise’s students include Wes Gibbons (Alfred Enoch), Connor Walsh (Jack Falahee), Michaela Pratt (Aja Naomi King), Asher Millstone (Matt McGorry) and Laurel Castillo (Karla Souza). The unlikely band of first-year law students eventually gets selected to join Annalise’s firm after proving themselves in a case that doubles as an introductory exercise in which they learn how the exacting and ruthless attorney works her magic in the court of law.
The case Annalise has the students working on with her is – not that of missing student Lila Stangard whose likeness is splashed over the halls – but that of The Aspirin Assassin.

The main stage for How to Get Away With Murder is a university lecture hall full of bright, eager, first-year, first-day law students. Defense Attorney Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) is the brilliant Criminal Law Professor we all love to love and love to hate. Fairly bristling with a bravados that provokes both fear and respect from her youthful charges, she lets them know, right off, that hers is not a classroom of theory, discussion and debate; rather she believes in practical application. “Unlike many of my colleagues, I will not be teaching you how to study the law or theorize about it, but rather how to practice it… in a courtroom, like a real lawyer,” Keating...

In case you haven't heard, Viola Davis is coming to TV next season as the star of Shonda Rhimes' latest bananas thriller "How To Get Away With Murder." While we've passed the point of a two-time Oscar nominee signing on for a TV show qualifying as any kind of surprise, we're not over journalists asking those actors why they're doing TV. Davis was ready for the inevitable question at the 2014 TCA press tour. "The day of choosing TV over film and TV somehow diminishing your career as an actor or actress I think has changed," she began. "People migrate toward material, especially when they reach a certain age, or [are] a certain hue, certain sex." "I've gotten some wonderful film roles, but I've gotten even more film roles where I wasn't the show -- It feels like I've been invited to a really fabulous party only to hold up the wall,...

Smooth talking ex-lawyer Jeff Winger has got a lot to learn, and he’s come to Greendale Community College to avoid every bit of it. Unfortunately for Jeff, he’s not the only misfit to enrol here, and people in need have an odd way of finding each other. First, his fake study group becomes a real study group. Then, over the course of a strange year that goes from Mexican Halloween to the final “Tranny Dance,” and includes bad trips, great debates, drunk dials, food fights, epic paintball battles and sinister chicken finger conspiracies — the group becomes a family, something Jeff never wanted, but clearly needs.

Subject: Kevin Bacon, 52-year old American actor and musician
Date of Assessment: June 1, 2011
Positive Buzzwords: Underrated, intense, villain
Negative Buzzwords: Typecast, Madoff
The Case: Horror fans will remember Kevin Bacon's first mainstream turn in Friday the 13th, but it was really Footloose that catapulted him to the walls of teenage girls everywhere and then (not too much longer afterwards) ceremoniously dropped him in the gutter. Through sheer talent and a willingness to appear in some really awful films as well as a handful of really good ones, Kevin Bacon has somehow survived through multiple decades of a Hollywood career. Just recently, he has also had the dubious pleasure of emerging as one of Bernie Madoff's victims. While Bacon admits that the experience has indeed affected some of his decisions on what work to accept, he is also a realist and admits that, sometimes, an actor just needs the work.

Ever the perpetual "B" student, last night's Community did its thing, did it well, and will be completely forgotten by next week. One difference was the order in which its humor succeeded. Other than the second episode, which remained a joy throughout all of its 22 minutes, each episode of Community has started strong only to fizzle out by the final act. Last night's "Advanced Criminal Law," on the other hand, began in a mild fog and then worked its way up to a solid conclusion. Go figure. By this point in the season, I'm assuming you're reading this because...

(S01E05) Hmmm, I'm not even sure what it was. I still really like Community, and there were some moments that I recognized as humorous throughout this episode. And yet, I found myself kind of bored with most of it. Maybe it's me.
There was certainly plenty going on, with Señor Chang on the warpath because someone cheated on their Spanish test, Abed learning the highly cultured art of "messing with" someone, and Annie recruiting Pierce to write the new school song. You have the Dean running around still pretending the community college is Harvard or Brown, while Jeff's friend, Professor Duncan, began his quest to beat Jeff into Britta's pants.
I will state, officially for the record, that I am about as done with Britta constantly accusing Jeff of only wanting to get together with her. We're five episodes in and it's getting tired. Either he is or he isn't,...

Warner Brothers has debuted the official trailer for Martin Campbell's Edge of Darkness starring Mel Gibson and Ray Winstone today on Yahoo. The movie is about a homicide detective who starts to investigate his own daughter's death and uncovers a secret life as well as corporate cover-up and government collusion. I love a good mystery and this just looks awesome, especially with Gibson kicking ass and Winstone being all mysterious. I really love Martin Campbell, that guy can do no wrong, and his action intensity is just second-to-none. Anyway, if you're looking for a damn good thriller to finally be very excited about, just start here! Watch the official trailer for Martin Campbell's Edge of Darkness: You can also watch the trailer for Edge of Darkness in High Definition on Yahoo Edge of Darkness is directed by New Zealand / British filmmaker Martin Campbell, of everything from The...
