Nicolas Cage is back and this time he’s taking us into a grim, post-apocalyptic world in ‘Arcadian’. The movie’s trailer just dropped and it’s everything you’d expect from a thriller set after society’s collapse. Cage, playing Paul, is a dad trying to keep his two sons safe in a world where danger lurks as soon as the sun sets.
The story is set in a near future where life as we know it has crumbled. Paul, along with his sons Joseph, played by Jaeden Martell, and Thomas, played by Maxwell Jenkins, are facing a world filled with night-time terrors. These mysterious creatures come out at night, and according to the eerie trailer, they might be here because of the environmental mess we’ve made. Paul’s voice in the trailer hints at this, saying that these creatures might see humans as the problem, here to ‘cleanse’ the Earth.

Movie armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was found guilty Wednesday of causing the involuntary manslaughter of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins two years ago on the set of Alec Baldwin’s Western flick Rust. The rookie armorer faces up to 18 months in prison for her role in the death of Hutchins, who was a rising star in her industry.
In a statement to Rolling Stone, Hutchins’ parents and sister said they were “satisfied that the jury, based on the evidence, found Hannah Gutierrez-Reed guilty beyond a reasonable doubt for her part in the taking of Halyna’s life.

Brad Silberling's 1998 romance "City of Angels," a remake of Wim Wenders' indispensable 1987 film "Wings of Desire," stars Nicolas Cage as an immortal angel named Seth who gently breezes around Los Angeles, unseen by the people who live there. He appears to people only when they die, accompanying them to the afterworld. Observing humans as if they are an ineffable alien species, Seth becomes particularly enamored of an ambitious and compassionate young doctor named Maggie Rice. Seth finds that he might be experiencing love for the first time, and becomes visible to Dr. Rice, courting her and asking her deep questions about what it means to be human. Seth eventually chooses to transform into a human, sacrificing his immortality in order to be with his beloved.
What both Wenders and Silberling communicate with aplomb is how inhuman angels are. They live among humans but only interact when the humans die.

What if there was no tomorrow? That's an existential question posed not only by the 2014 time loop film "Edge of Tomorrow," but also by its sequel's complicated status following the original's successful release. Ever since 2015, director Doug Liman and stars Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt have spoken at various times about a sequel movie getting off the ground. At one point, Liman had said that the sequel would be entitled "Live Die Repeat and Repeat" (referencing the movie's ersatz title/subtitle) and that the film's co-writer Christopher McQuarrie would also return. He even claimed that the concept was so good that "it's gonna revolutionize how people make sequels."
Alas, a myriad of obstacles have gotten in the way in the intervening years between that statement and now, with Blunt saying in August 2023 that she's still interested in making a sequel, but doesn't know when or how it could happen. Given the project's stalled status,...

Nicolas Cage did not know writer-director Kristoffer Borgli from Adam when he opened the first page of Dream Scenario. A Norwegian filmmaker with only one other feature under his belt—2022’s Sick of Myself, which also is in Norwegian—Borgli is an exceedingly new voice in cinema, but one Cage was keyed into recognizing as promising because the screenplay had been sent by Ari Aster. As it turns out, the director behind Hereditary and Midsommar was producing this mysterious new dark comedy called Dream Scenario, and he thought Cage would respond to a story about a mild mannered college professor who one day discovers everyone in the world is dreaming about him.
Cage couldn’t put it down. Despite the project being an intensely surrealist comedy wherein our hero, Paul Matthews, learns his daughters, his students, and even folks on the other side of the Atlantic are dreaming of him—be it as a goof,...

From internet memes to a slew of movies, this is the Age of Cage, but Nicolas Cage himself revealed that as he approaches his 60th birthday he is taking stock. He told a sold-out audience at the Red Sea Film Festival that he was winding down his film career after 45 years and over 100 films: “I want to do television; maybe Broadway.” His decision – inspired in part by his son showing him “Breaking Bad” — won’t be final, as he has several film projects in the pipeline, including “Sympathy for the Devil,” co-starring festival jury member Joel Kinnaman and a sequel to 2005’s “Lord of War” — “My character’s son grows up and becomes a rival. It’s very Arthurian,” he said.

Yesterday, we published an article detailing Nicolas Cage’s plans to turn away from film acting after his next few movies, a notion he doubled down on in a new interview with Uproxx’s Mike Ryan. But Cage also opened up about potentially getting back in the game should an enjoyable project arise. “I’m not saying no entirely. I’m saying if something came along that I thought had some pop to it, some spark to it, that maybe could be fun for folks to revisit, like a Face/Off 2 or Ghost Rider, that’s another conversation.”
It turns out that Cage has a particular soft spot for Face/Off, mentioning that he hasn’t seen director John Woo, who was once his close friend, in a long time. “Well, John… I haven’t spoken to him in a very long time, but at one time we were pretty close.

Nicolas Cage broke out in laughter during a recent Vanity Fair video interview when forced to watch the infamous scene from 2004’s “National Treasure” in which his character, treasure hunter and cryptographer Benjamin Gates, says for the first time, “I’m gonna steal the Declaration of Independence.” The line of dialogue has been a calling card for Cage’s career for 19 years now and counting, and it’s inspired countless memes and parodies on the internet.
“How do you take something that is so profoundly ridiculous and really try to sell it?” Cage said while watching the infamous moment. “What I really like about that scene just seeing it again for the first time in however many years is I like the positivity of the character. He really believes this. He really reveres it. I think that’s charming.”
“I can’t even say it without laughing,” he added about the line.

In a super weekend for specialty, Saltburn had a lofty open on seven screens and The Holdovers a nice $2.7 million in a major week-three expansion that put it at no. 6 at the domestic box office. Actors are once again out promoting their films and indie/original fare continues to benefit from fewer studio releases in the aftermath of the SAG-AFTRA strike.
The specialty market has been on a rollercoaster with box office hard to predict — stellar reviews notwithstanding. So it’s nice to see The Holdovers — Alexander Payne’s comedy-drama starring Paul Giamatti as a cranky professor in a New England prep school circa 1970, drawing audiences, especially older demos that have been hard to coax back.
The pic from Focus Features launched Oct. 27 on six screens, moved to 64 in week two, 778 last weekend and 1,478 Friday in a traditional platform rollout that caught a great break with timing as the SAG-AFTRA strike settled Nov.

Nicolas Cage is the most meta of modern actors. There are exceptions (most recently his heartbreaking work in Michael Sarnoski's "Pig"), but, for better or worse, we are almost always aware that we are watching a Cage performance. This isn't a new development. He's been an emoting machine dating back to Francis Ford Coppola's "Peggy Sue Got Married," and won a Best Actor Oscar for his Ray-Milland-on-steroids portrayal of an alcoholic in "Leaving Las Vegas."
As much as we love Cage going full Cage, those "Pig" roles are vital to his appeal as an actor. They remind us that he is a thoughtful, deeply intuitive performer capable of drawing us into the world of introverts and quietly damaged people. Kristoffer Borgli's dark comedy "Dream Scenario" is one such film -- to a point. Cage plays Paul Matthews, a mild-mannered biology professor who inexplicably begins appearing in the...

Nicolas Cage has perhaps never been Nicolas Cagier in what could be his Nicolas Cagiest performance ever. This is a surreal fantasy-satire about the unsafe space of social media and the nature of viral fame, something to be aspired to – or dreamed of – by everyone: the democratised and accessible stardom that can happen to anyone, despite or in some way because of their lack of achievement. This kind of fame can be alchemised from ordinariness, a fame produced and consumed on smartphones and capable of getting inside people’s heads because they can imagine, in fact want to imagine, the same thing happening to them.

Nicolas Cage is a character, and he's played some of our favorite characters to date. He's also been playing the role of dad for over 30 years. Nicolas's sons have grown up on Hollywood film sets and with famous friends, but they still lead fairly low-key lives, all things told. Nicolas Cage has shared his thoughts on the use of AI in films, as well as his feelings about the final cut of his cameo as Superman in Warner Bros.’ “The Flash.”
In a recent interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, Cage expressed his personal distaste for the technology, saying, “AI is a nightmare to me. It’s inhumane. You can’t get more inhumane than artificial intelligence.”
While AI did not play a part in Cage’s surprise cameo as Superman in “The Flash,” the final scene was different from what he shot for the 2023 superhero movie, according to the actor.
“What I was supposed to do was literally just be standing in an alternate dimension, if you will, and witnessing the destruction of the universe,” Cage explained. “Kal-El was bearing witness [to] the end of a universe, and you can imagine with that short amount of time that I had, what...

In Kristoffer Borgli's "Dream Scenario," Nicolas Cage becomes the man of your dreams. The A24-produced psychological thriller dives into complications of subconscious influence, cancel culture abruptness, and overnight fame as told through the science of unconscious thoughts. It's provocative as a hallucinogenic experiment about viral infamy, but not wholly clear in its storytelling as harmless interrupted slumbers turn into waking nightmares. The memeability of Cage is an attraction as always, yet as seriousness overtakes a bumbling nobody's obscure thrust into the limelight, Borgli loses a bit of storytelling control within an otherwise provocative social experiment.
Cage stars as Osler University professor Paul Matthews, an evolutionary biologist who begins appearing in people's dreams. There's no rhyme or reason — he's just there. His classroom fills with students who can't stop seeing Paul, nor can he keep up with flooding Facebook messages from people worldwide who've had a Paul dream. It's...

As a prequel to The Original Series, nearly every minute of Strange New Worlds could, arguably, be considered some kind of Star Trek easter egg. Just being on the classic Enterprise is a reference to the existence of The Original Series. Ethan Peck’s Spock just doing anything could also scan as an easter egg.
So, where does one start with references in Strange New Worlds? For the Season 2 premiere, “The Broken Circle,” we tried to make it easy. It looks like the "National Treasure" universe wasn't quite ready to expand. Deadline is reporting that the Disney+ spin-off series "National Treasure: Edge of History" has been cancelled after just one season. Guest stars like Harvey Keitel, Justin Bartha, and franchise newbie Catherine Zeta-Jones apparently weren't enough to save the tie-in series, which arrived a full 15 years after the second film in the Nicolas Cage-led franchise.
"National Treasure: Edge of History" followed Jess (Lisette Olivera), a second-generation treasure-keeper and first-generation Mexican-American immigrant who's tasked with continuing her father's legacy. The first season followed a mystery related to a necklace Jess inherited from her father, one that kickstarts an adventure with ties to secret societies, the Spanish Inquisition, the Battle of the Alamo, and much more. The teen-centric show aimed to capture a younger generation of fans, but with the news of its cancellation, one wonders if it came a...

The “National Treasure” Disney+ series has come to a striking halt.
Based on the wildly popular film franchise starring Nicolas Cage in the aughts, “National Treasure: Edge of History“ has been officially cancelled after a 10-episode run starting in January.
Deadline has revealed that the series, starring Lisette Olivera as Jess Venezeula, a DREAMer fearlessly navigating to locate a Pan-American treasure containing a vital family secret, has officially ended.

The series boasted a heavyweight cast, including Hollywood veterans like Justin Bartha and Harvey Keitel. The series also starred several actors, including Zuri Reed, Jake Austin Walker, Antonio Cipriano, Jordan Rodrigues, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
“Edge of History” was missing the pivotal presence of Cage, but the creators, the Wibberleys, were hoping to bolster many more seasons which would have eventually featured the iconic actor.

Saddle up, buckaroos, for a bonafide Western with Nicolas Cage. There's nothing old about "The Old Way" in terms of how it will bring Cage's "Nouveau Shamanic" acting style to the Western genre.
Cage as a cowboy: why on God's green earth haven't we seen this kind of movie sooner?
Deadline reports that there are not one, but two Cage Westerns in development. "The Old Way" will shoot back-to-back in Montana with "Butcher's Crossing," another Cage-led Western, first announced back in June. It sounds like "The Old Way" will film and release first, with "Butcher's Crossing" set to follow right after it. The former is billed as an "action Western" and...

Exclusive: Fresh off his lauded performance in art house darling Pig, Oscar winner Nicolas Cage has saddled up to lead action Western The Old Way.
The film will be Cage’s first foray into the genre (in a conventional sense), a journey he’ll continue with the previously announced Butcher’s Crossing. Both films will shoot back-to-back in Montana.
In The Old Way, Cage will star as Colton Briggs, a former gunslinger who now runs a general store and lives quietly with his family. When a gang of outlaws murders his wife in cold blood, Briggs returns home to find his world burning. He unearths his sidearm and saddles up with an unlikely partner: his twelve-year-old daughter.
The film will be directed by Acts of Violence helmer Brett Donowho. Carl W. Lucas wrote the script. Capstone is launching sales on the movie at this week’s Toronto Film Festival market.

Looking at the latest Mortal Kombat movie it’s fair to say that it wasn’t entirely centered on one character as it tried to stretch out and include other characters that people actually knew something about, but Cole Young, the descendant of Hanzo Hasashi, aka Scorpion, was kind of a disappointment. Had the movie focused instead on the actual feud between the Lin Kuei and the Shirai Ryu it might have been easier to accept and less likely that it would be facing the kind of criticism it has since its release. One glaring omission, at least until the end of

Mild spoilers for Picard Season 1 ahead.
More than any of the new Star Trek series, Picard is the one that is the most stuffed with obvious Trekkie nostalgia. Yes, when Strange New Worlds starts showing some footage, we might feel differently, but because Picard is a sequel to the ‘90s-era of Trek, for this present moment, it connects with various generations of Trekkies at the same time.
On “First Contact Day,” Paramount+ dropped a minimalist, spare teaser-trailer, similar to the vineyard teaser for Picard Season 1. But this time, as we swept through Picard’s study in Château Picard, the trailer was basically nothing but Easter eggs. Here’s a full breakdown of what we caught and what it all might mean.
Château Picard is Not a hologram
Notably, the first shot of the trailer is of the outside of Château Picard, which seems to imply what we’re looking at...

Screen Media Films has dropped the official trailer for 'Willys Wonderland', an upcoming action-horror film featuring Hollywood superstar Nicolas Cage in the lead.

The blood-thirsty plotline revolves around Cage who finds himself struggling for survival after he agrees to clean the place in exchange for vehicle repairs only to find himself fighting against possessed animatronic mascots that lurk in the haunted Wonderland.

Nicolas Cage turned in some of the best work of his career playing a double role in Spike Jonze’s “Adaptation,” and he’s set to try something similar in his upcoming project “The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent.” The meta drama from writer-director Tom Gormican casts Nicolas Cage as two fictionalized versions of himself. The first is a downtrodden actor struggling to return to his glory days. The second is a younger doppelgänger of the actor from when he was a big star who haunts his older self for throwing his career away. The two get in way over their heads after the strapped-for-cash older actor accepts a $1 million gig to attend the birthday of a Mexican billionaire super-fan.

Nicolas Cage goes the extra mile for his characters. The Oscar winner has had plenty of unforgettable roles in the course of his multi-decade career and, thanks to a video for GQ, Cage has revealed some of the more unique ways he channeled those men for the silver screen. When it came time for his Oscar-winning performance as suicidal alcoholic Ben Sanderson in Leaving Las Vegas, the actor explained that he studied past alcohol performances by other actors and drew inspiration from those characters. However, upon a suggestion from his cousin Roman Coppola, he hired Tony Dingman, a poet who Cage said was "at that time very drunk," to be his "drinking coach." The...

When Hollywood strapped Nicolas Cage, John Malkovich and a host of bad guys into a plane and crashed it on Vegas, what was the result? An action hit that was half prison flick, half rock video – and is, 20 years on, still dangerous
A ridiculous movie when it was released in June 1997, Nicolas Cage’s bumpy flight Con Air only seems more absurd 20 years later. The debut of UK director Simon West, it is a thundering action blowout so loud, haywire and sentimental that – in perhaps the ultimate backhanded compliment – it is often misidentified as a Michael Bay movie. Certainly it feels like a natural bridge between two of Bay’s pre-Transformers hits: 1996’s The Rock, where Cage first seemed to get a real taste for being an action star, and 1998’s Armageddon, another high-concept blockbuster hip to the benefits of recruiting an overqualified ensemble. A love letter to Vin Diesel’s extreme sports heroism.

Before getting to xXx (it is no longer necessary to get to The Fast and the Furious, it having long since ascended to pop legend) as a whole it’s necessary to talk about Cohen as a filmmaker, which isn’t possible to do in a positive sense without grappling with some large contradictions. Charismatic Cardboard & Xander CagexXx: Return of Xander Cage is brings the series back to its B-movie roots.
After years of playing video games at friends’ houses, my family got a GameCube in 2002. Finally I could play all the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 that my nine year-old heart desired, though I honestly played way more Pro Skater 4. Too uncoordinated (and too afraid) to skateboard, I had a Razor Scooter. The time I didn’t spend outside was split between games, television, and movies. I was the target audience for xXx.
Thirteen years and a little maturity later, I am stoked for xXx: Return of Xander Cage.

Action cinema changed in 1999. The release of The Matrix unleashed a torrent of imitators, but also altered fundamentally the editing of movies in the genre. This came with a price. Action sequences became harder to follow. Character was relegated. The old style idea of pitting a movie star against some peril in extraordinary circumstances was seemingly less tempting. The Matrix had started something.

As much credit as we give to the 80s for canonizing overkill in action films, we don’t give enough recognition to the 90s for producing some of the most out-and-out insane premises to action films that you can’t make today. In the center of it all was Nicolas Cage. Cage has made a career out of not being pinned down, and his turn from Oscar Winning actor for Leaving Las Vegas to following it up with a string of action films certainly displays that. In 1996-1997 Cage made 3 films in a row as Hollywood’s 2nd most bankable action star (Will Smith being the only one to top him both years) of the time that looking back, really define a lot of the characteristics that made the 90s action film distinct from other decades. It was a wonderful time to be Nicolas Cage. How did someone like him...

This Is The End doesn't have the monopoly on actors playing themselves in movies. Just check this lot out...
Last week saw the UK release of This Is The End, in which members of Judd Apatow's comedy troupe wind up trapped in James Franco's house, post-Rapture. Most of the world's population has been Raptured into the next life, or otherwise fallen into a great big hole in Franco's lawn.
The film is adapted from a 2007 sketch called Jay & Seth Vs The Apocalypse, which featured Jay Baruchel and Seth Rogen squabbling with each other in a living room. Both reprise their roles here, as exaggerated versions of themselves. You know how Rogen is often criticised for playing himself in movies? Well, he literally plays himself in this one, to a certain degree. Elsewhere, Michael Cera plays a drug-addled dickhole, Emma Watson is a...
