The Equalizer has drawn very good ratings for CBS. Still, it's also co-produced by an outside studio (Universal Television), which is a negative in the economics of network television these days. A couple of years ago, the Magnum Pi reboot was cancelled by CBS when the companies couldn't come to a financial agreement that worked for both sides. Will The Equalizer be cancelled or renewed for season five? Stay tuned. *Status Update Below.
An action crime series, The Equalizer TV show stars Queen Latifah, Tory Kittles, Adam Goldberg, Liza Lapira, Laya DeLeon Hayes, and Lorraine Toussaint. Jennifer Ferrin and Frank Pando recur, while Gloria Reuben and Kelly Rowland guest in season four. The story follows Robyn McCall (Latifa), an enigmatic woman with a mysterious background. Los Angeles, April 21 (Ians) Remember ladies going gaga over Tom Selleck’s signature moustache in ‘Friends’? Well, one day, the 79-year-old actor decided to bid farewell to his signature facial hair for his role in the show ‘Blue Bloods’.
The actor revealed that he initially chose to shave off his moustache to embody the character of police commissioner Frank Reagan on the show, which is currently airing its final season, reports ‘People’ magazine.
Talking about the role, Tom told ‘People’: “At the time, they had him as the New York City police chief. That’s not the boss in New York, the way it’s structured. And I said, ‘Well, I don’t think they can have moustaches, so I’ll shave off my moustache’. And (executive producer) Leonard (Goldberg) said, ‘Let me check with CBS’. And they said no.”

Exclusive: First in a series on broadcast network series renewals. NBC is well ahead of the game this season on the renewal-decision front, handing early pickups to freshman dramas Found and The Irrational as well as One Chicago, Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu while canceling Quantum Leap, La Brea and Magnum Pi.
That leaves just a headful of shows on the bubble, mostly on the comedy side. The one drama series still waiting to hear its fate is Law & Order: Organized Crime. It’s always been an outlier, a departure from the Dick Wolf procedural brand with its darker and serialized storytelling. Possibly as a result, the series starring Christopher Meloni has performed below the five other Wolf dramas on the linear NBC network, while it has reportedly done well on Peacock.

Magnum P.I. showrunner Eric Guggenheim didn’t intend on the action drama’s Season 5 finale being the series finale, but then NBC canceled the series after one post-CBS season. Luckily for fans, the Season 5 finale “absolutely works” as the final Magnum P.I. installment, Guggenheim says. “I actually think it’s quite satisfying. I’m really proud of the finale,” he tells TVLine. “There are a couple of threads left dangling that would have been picked up in a Season 6, but I didn’t want to end on a cliffhanger. If I’m being honest, I guess I wanted to play it safe. Too many shows have gotten burned with cliffhangers [left unresolved].” Zack Dougan/NBC Magnum P.I. — an update of Tom Selleck’s similarly-titled ’80s show, Magnum, P.I. — stars Jay Hernandez as an ex-Navy Seal working as a security consultant and private eye in Hawaii. In recent years, in addition to a variety of playsets for children, Playmobil has delivered a handful of collectible vehicle playsets reaching back to the classic nostalgia of the 1980s. From the "Back to the Future" DeLorean time machine to the sentient car K.I.T.T. from "Knight Rider" and the trademark van of "The A-Team," Playmobil has released impressive pop culture vehicle playsets featuring their patented figures, and yet another beloved piece of TV history is now available.
"Magnum P.I." debuted on television at the end of 1980, bringing Tom Selleck and his glorious mustache to the small screen as Thomas Magnum, a private investigator (or rather a P.I.) living in Oahu, Hawaii and solving various mysteries. Magnum could frequently be seen sporting Hawaiian shirts, a baseball cap, and some sunglasses. But most importantly, he was always cruising around in his signature red Ferrari 308 Gts Quattrovalvole.

One of the coolest guys of the eighties was Tom Selleck, and everyone absolutely loved him playing the laid-back Thomas Magnum on the classic series Magnum, P.I. Running from 1980 to 1988; the show proved to be a mixed blessing for its star, as Selleck had auditioned to play Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark and was actually chosen to play the part. He had to pass because he had already shot the pilot for Magnum, P.I., and the network wouldn’t let him out of his contract.
While passing up the opportunity to play the whip-wielding archeologist must have stung, Magnum P.I. ran for eight years and was one of the biggest shows of the decade. Selleck became a household name and parlayed his success on the show into a series of film roles (including Best Movie You Never Saw fave Runaway), culminating with the release of Three Men and a Baby,...

NBC is shaking up its fall schedule, most notably moving up the final season of “Magnum, P.I.” to this fall.
Amid the historic double SAG-AFTRA and WGA strike, new seasons of three shows in the “Chicago” franchise, including “Chicago Med,” “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago P.D.,” and two “Law & Order” series — “Law & Order” and “Law & Order: Svu” — which were set to hold down Wednesday and Thursday night programming, respectively, have been delayed. The second season of “Night Court” and “Extended Family,” both of which were scheduled to air Tuesdays, are also being held.
While Monday programming will remain untouched with airings of “The Voice” Season 24 and new series “The Irrational” debuting Sept. 25, NBC has added an additional Tuesday airing of “The Voice,” which will be followed by new series “Found,” which premieres Oct. 3 at 10 p.m., shifting from its previous Thursday timeslot.

NBC network dominated the 35th annual Primetime Emmys, with a groundbreaking drama continuing a winning streak, a little-watched sitcom making its name known and another sitcom proving the network might have cancelled it too soon. Eddie Murphy and Joan Rivers hosted the event on September 25, 1983. Rivers claimed she had waited nine years for an invitation to the Emmys, and would be wearing every dress she owed (which ended up being nine), and Murphy was excited about his first nomination. Read on for our Emmys flashback 40 years ago to 1983.
Two years prior, a little police drama had debuted, changing television with its realism and continuing storylines involving the personal lives of the characters. “Hill Street Blues” not only dominated the Nielsen ratings, but it won numerous Emmys throughout its run. This year would mark its third of four consecutive Best Drama Series victories, winning over “Cagney & Lacey,” “Fame,” “Magnum, P.I.” and “St. Elsewhere.

Rian Johnson’s case-of-the-week mystery series “Poker Face” is a hit with audiences and critics, but the Peacock show’s stylish throwback title sequence has its own devoted fanbase.
“People have been writing to say, ‘I cheered when this yellow type and a copyright block came up,'” said Marke Johnson, the founder and creative director of The Made Shop, the Denver-based design studio behind the credits. “It’s funny that whether you know the type or not, it’s this alchemy of details. This shade of yellow, this type of shadow, this type of optical effect, all coalesces, and it has been really rewarding.”
Inspired by TV mystery series like “Columbo” and “Murder, She Wrote,” “Poker Face” follows human lie detector Charlie (Natasha Lyonne) as she travels the country, always managing to stumble into a murder. “Poker Face” isn’t Johnson’s first collaboration with the filmmaker, who also happens to be his cousin.

Loss is something just about any audience member can relate to, but it’s not necessarily something that everyone can mine for art. Nell Teare, the writer-director-star of the indie film “Bolivar,” faced this challenge head on in telling the story of Maggie (Teare), a professor trying to resume her career and family life after a crushing personal tragedy and divorce. She stifles her sadness by downing glasses of wine and managing a one-night stand with Jake, a bartender (Chris Petrovski) who gets pulled into her increasingly odd behavior.
In a Q&a with TheWrap’s Awards Executive Editor Steve Pond on Aug. 31, Teare was joined by her costar Robert Pine, producing partner Jerry Cope, editor Noah Harald, and casting director Jamie Castro for a special screening in L.A. During the discussion, the writer-director explained that she drew from personal experience to tell this story.

Frank Lupo, the TV writer-producer who was a frequent collaborator with Stephen J. Cannell in the 1980s on such high-octane dramas as “The A-Team,” “Hunter” and “Wiseguy,” has died. He was 66.
Lupo died Feb. 18 at his home in Florida, according to his sister, Linda Joy Sullivan.
Lupo’s work in TV took off in the late 1970s when he wrote for such series as “Battlestar Galactica,” “Magnum, P.I.,” “B.J. and the Bear” and “The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo.”
Lupo worked on the Universal Television lot in the same era as Cannell, the prolific showrunner behind “The Rockford Files” and “Baretta.” Lupo wrote several episodes of Cannell’s ABC dramedy “The Greatest American Hero.”
Lupo and Cannell then co-created “The A-Team,” the action-drama with touches of comedy that became a massive hit for NBC in 1983. Cannell, who died in 2010, famously took the bold step of launching his own independent production banner on the back of “A-Team.

This Warrior review contains spoilers.
Warrior Season 2 Episode 6 heads for the Mexican border for a No Holds Barred tournament that has been teased all season long. Apart from Ah Toy’s (Olivia Cheng) trips to Nellie’s (Miranda Raison) Sonoma winery in the previous episode, Warrior seldom leaves San Francisco except for one notable exception – Season 1 Episode 5: “The Blood and the Sh*t.” That was an outlier tale where Ah Sahm (Andrew Koji) and Young Jun (Jason Tobin) were transporting a coffin and got trapped by bandits in a desert saloon with several bystanders.
With undertones of The Seven Samurai, it was an homage to spaghetti westerns, complete with a classic ride into the sunset and even a “The End” credit. It was one of the best episodes of Season 1, almost a standalone story because it did nothing to advance the overarching tale, while this new episode is pivotal...

CBS may be returning to originals in the coming weeks, but many of its shows will be doing so with fewer episodes this season.
Filming TV shows comes with some bigger considerations nowadays with the Covid-19 pandemic changing the way we live.
As a result, CBS has trimmed the episode orders for some of its most popular series ahead of their highly-anticipated returns.
Deadline is reporting that NCIS: Los Angeles and The Neighborhood are both set to produce 18 episodes for the 2020-21 TV season.
Blue Bloods, Bull, Magnum P.I., NCIS, NCIS: New Orleans, and Seal Team, meanwhile, will produce 16 episodes each.
The jury is still out on Mom, Young Sheldon, All Rise, and S.W.A.T., which will likely see some changes to their episode orders, as well.
The Unicorn, meanwhile, will span 13 episodes, which was planned from the beginning, so fans will be getting the planned episode orders for the sophomore comedy.

As is, CBS’ returning slate won’t begin to hit our screens until Thursday, Nov. 5 (with Young Sheldon, the new comedy B Positive and Mom), since Hollywood had been shut down from mid-March until mid-September.

Covid-19 has forced CBS to reduce the episode count for virtually all its scripted shows.
The network has cut down series orders for more than half a dozen shows from the usual 22 episodes to between 16 and 18, Variety has confirmed.
Sources say that showrunners were told the number of episodes in their new season was in flux when CBS set its tentative schedule several months ago. All the shows which have been reduced thus far, among them all three “NCIS” series and “Blue Bloods,” are produced in-house by CBS Studios.
The pandemic caused every network, not just CBS, to shift it schedule multiple times amid production chaos. With the later production start dates and premieres, CBS is hoping that these reduced series orders will carry them through May and the end of the traditional broadcast season. Other networks are likely being forced to make a similar decision regarding the length of their shows this season,...

The coronavirus pandemic cut short the 2019-20 seasons of most broadcast series as production shut down in mid-March. Now the continuing effects from the pandemic are altering the course of the 2020-21 season, with late launches and shorter runs for scripted series.
CBS has trimmed the orders to its scripted series from CBS Studios from full-season 22 episodes to 16-18, including the NCIS franchise, Blue Bloods, Bull, The Neighborhood, Seal Team, Magnum P.I. and Bull.. The network is still in conversations with outside studios, including Mom, Young Sheldon, Bob Hearts Abishola, B Positive and All Rise producer Warner Bros TV; Universal TV, which is behind the FBI franchise; and S.W.A.T.‘s Sony Pictures TV. Those series also are expected to end up producing seasons in the 16- to 18-episode range.

ViacomCBS has revealed the 11 writers set to participate in its annual Writers Mentoring Program. The network announced Thursday its lineup of scribes, selected from a pool of over 1,600 applicants, with varying experiences and backgrounds.
The eight-month mentoring program will pair the selected writers with ViacomCBS executive mentors, who will help them create new content. After the mentorship period, the writers will partake in a 16-week workshop where they will learn the ins and outs of the television industry. During that mentorship period the writers will also have access to agents, executives, showrunners and producers.
