Robert Conrad, the actor best known for his role in the television show The Wild Wild West, died today in Malibu, Calif. of heart failure. He was 84 and his death was announced by a family spokesman.
Born in Chicago, Illinois on March 1, 1935, Conrad moved to Los Angeles in 1958 and found almost instant success, booking a recurring role on the TV show Hawaiian Eye in 1959.
After Hawaiian Eye, he scored his signature role, that of Secret Service agent James West in The Wild Wild West. The show ran from 1965 to 1969, but became an even bigger hit in syndication. The premise followed West and sidekick Artemus Gordon as the country’s first Secret Service agents, taking on the super villains of the era during the Ulysses S. Grant administration.
After Wild West West, Conrad moved on to other television shows, including The D.A., Assignment: Vienna, Centennial and Baa Baa Black Sheep...

In the 1970s crime films morphed into sadistic vigilante fantasies about tough-guy heroes avenging terrible crimes against their families. Veteran noir director Phil Karlson directed the bruiser’s bruiser Joe Don Baker in a standard tale of violent vengeance, with the violence factor given an extra bloody boost.

Quentino Tarantino recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of the release of his immense directorial debut, Reservoir Dogs. Tying in nicely with that anniversary is Tarantino Xx, a new eight-film Blu-ray collection that hits shelves in the UK today.
The box set includes all seven of the films Tarantino has directed to date (not counting the upcoming and highly anticipated Django Unchained, of course), with a brilliant addition in True Romance, which Tarantino wrote and the late Tony Scott directed.
With the box set coming out on Blu-ray today, we’ve got a great new featurette with Robert Rodriguez, with whom Tarantino has worked with many times over the years.
Included in the collection, Tarantino Xx, in chronological order, are:
Reservoir Dogs, True Romance, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill Vols. I and II, Death Proof, and Inglourious Basterds.

In anticipation of the release of Tarantino Xx: 8-film Collection on Blu-ray this November 20th, 2012, check out the full interior artwork created by Mondo artist Ken Taylor. Stylistic, bold and unique, Ken Taylor add the same artistic flair to this boxed set as he has for so many of his Mondo poster designs, including this amazing poster for Drive (2011) amongst others. A fitting addition to a boxed set already so highly anticipated it could literally make some film buffs’ heads actually explode. For many, this may be a rare opportunity to own some Mondo art, even if mass produced, as original Mondo prints typically sell out within minutes, if not seconds. For many, it’s been a long wait as we’ve watched various Blu-ray editions of Tarantino films pop up in other countries, but not in the United States… ’till now. Tarantino + Blu-ray + Mondo = a very happy fan of cool cinema!

This has us deliriously happy because Quentin Tarantino is one of the great stylists, who can deliver action, humor, and moments you have never seen before. He has a great ear for music so his soundtracks sing, and his casting is always brilliant. Go ahead and read the following then begin writing to Santa Claus.

Whether you love him or hate him, there is no doubt that Quentin Tarantino is a filmmaker that has definitely changed the language of cinema. Factor in that for the most part, Tarantino has directed all of his films via one company also makes it easier for a company like Lionsgate to publish a collection of his films celebrating his existence in film. Lionsgate will be re-releasing his 8 groundbreaking films on Blu-Ray in one very attractive set featuring a cover by Mondo by Ken Taylor. While this is definitely a double dip for some if not all Blu-Ray collectors, the fact that it is all in one package should attract you to make a purchase in the 8 film collection. I’m even missing some of his films on Blu-Ray so this set is still worth it to me. Read below for the press release.

Today the Screen Actors Guild (or SAG) announced the nominees for the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. Of course this award isn’t nearly as prestigious as an Academy Award, but it should be an indication of who will be nominated for supporting acting and acting Academy Awards. This year was one short a nomination for Gary Oldman in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and another short of a nomination for Michael Fassbender in Shame. The Help continues to ride the hype wave with four nominations, seeing that there were no men in the film, its not surprising to see them claim the nominations for the actress category.
