Why! Why!
kapelusznik182 November 2014
****SPOILERS**** Tough guy star of the TV series "Mannix" Mike Conners is the sweet & kindly archaeologist Travis Green sporting an Elvis Presley, when Elvis was still around, look who turned homicidal when things went bad for him. That's when his pregnant wife Amy, Tracy Brooks Swope, was brutally gang raped by a trio of scuzzy looking mountain men while he was out in the woods taking pictures of nature. With a very stretchy description of the men who raped her Travis goes on his own to exact justice on them leaving the local Sheriff Paley, Robert Reed, and his deputies behind in the cold.

Tracking down the men whom he thinks raped his wife Travis spots one of them-described as the fat guy with the white feather in his cap-Curly played by Jock Livingston and after trying to bring him back alive to face Justice ends up killing him when he resisted. That with the befuddled Curly thinking that Travis was some kind of deranged lunatic who escaped from a nearby sanitarium. Not just satisfied in doing in Curly Travis now tasting first blood goes after Curly's two friends investment broker Cooper, Larry Weston, and doctor and urologist Chuck, Glenn R. Wilder, who like their late friend Curly think that he's some kind of nut who escaped from a loony bin.

****SPOILERS**** It was Sheriff Paley who had earlier with his team of deputies captured Travis wife's, who positively identified them, actual rapists but with him jumping the gun and going out on his own Travis doesn't realized that he killed or better yet murdered three innocent men! A crime far worse then what was committed against his wife that he ,in his confused state of mind, accused them of and punished them for! A crime that he'll have to live with and pay for, with Sheriff Paley about to arrest him at the end of the movie, for the rest of his life.

An outstanding TV movie
searchanddestroy-11 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I totally agree with the other comment. I was stuck to my seat while viewing this little TV material masterpiece. The story begins as many others but the following is absolutely unusual.

A man and his young pregnant wife are on vacation in the wilderness, near a little town where big hunts are organized, and the woman is raped by three men. Afterwards, of course, the baby is dead and the husband - Connors - gets on rampage for vengeance. And that's here where the story begins very interesting.

He begins to track them down in the perfect survival style - you think of course of DELEVERANCE - and you realize in the same time that he tracks and kill the WRONG MEN. Because the editing of this story shows us that his wife recognizes, after her release from the hospital, the three men who raped her. So, you, the audience, you see the avenger wipe three innocent people. That's very unusual.

In other story, you would have realized that ONLY at the end of the film, at the same time as the lead. Not WHILE he wastes them.

The very exquisite would have been to end the movie with Connors not knowing at all he killed the wrong persons...

Get it at all cost.

Very Tragic - Revenge for a Rape (1976)
leslie-cassinelli19 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Possible spoiler....

It has been quite a few years since this was filmed, but still worth watching.

Now if memory serves...

It's a May-December romance, and he couldn't be more in love with his wife -- his wife being the perfect picture of innocence and unconditional love. While temporarily left alone on a camping trip, she is approached by 3 mountain men who torture, beat, rape her and nearly leave her for dead. She's found, he's enraged. She spots "them" later and is literally frozen. This is when he takes matters into his own hands -- tragically all his efforts to defend her horribly backfire on him. You'll have to watch to find out why.

Mannix goes Charles Bronson!
dtucker8613 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Death Wish came out two years before this tv film was made and it made people think it was cool to be a vigilante taking the law into your own hands. Perhaps Revenge For A Rape is a cautionary tale for anyone thinking about following Charles Bronson's example. TV legend Mike Connors (Tightrope, Mannix) stars as Travis a likeable guy and a loving husband with a pretty (and much younger) wife. They arrive at a national park during hunting season and while he is away from their campsite she is raped by three "deliverance" like rednecks causing her to miscarry. Connors is enraged when the sheriff (played by Robert Reed) tells him the might get away. After his distraught wife points out three strangers in a crowd, Connors goes from nice guy to savage as he hunts them down through the woods killing them one by one (at one point he even does a Butch Cassidy like leap off a cliff) HOWEVER the three men he's chasing and killing are totally innocent. His wife identifies the three real culprits and in the end Connors is about to be arrested and go to prison for life. This is one of those few tv films that doesn't have a happy ending.
