Snyder’s vision of the Dceu was highly criticized by the fans. He introduced a dark twist to pretty much every significant character in the Universe and majorly changed some of the most notable qualities of those characters.
‘Batman V Superman’ was likewise highly criticized for cramping too many big characters into a single movie, which effectively rendered it too cramped up to be enjoyable and the story to be worthwhile. Some viewers felt that the film had pacing issues, a convoluted plot, and lacked character development.
Now it’s Gunn’s turn to revitalize the DC cinematic universe, dubbed as Dcu after the reboot, and the first live-action project that will attempt will be ‘Superman’ bound to be released in 2025. But even now, more than a year before the movie’s release, the director is being criticized on social media regularly, and the latest accusation might have merit.

Fans heavily criticized Snyder’s approach to the Dceu, as he infused a darker tone into the characters and altered key qualities.
“Batman V Superman” faced similar backlash for cramming numerous major characters into one film, resulting in a crowded narrative with pacing issues, a convoluted plot, and inadequate character development.
Gunn is now tasked with revitalizing the DC cinematic universe, now known as the Dcu post-reboot, with his first live-action project, ‘Superman,’ slated for release in 2025. However, even over a year ahead of the movie’s debut, the director faces regular criticism on social media. The latest accusation against him is gaining traction and appears to have some merit.
In ‘Superman,’ Gunn intends to introduce four Justice League members alongside Corenswet as Clark Kent and Brosnahan’s Lois Lane: Guy Gardner (played by Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (played by Isabela Merced), Mister Terrific (played by Edi Gathegi), and Metamorpho (played by Anthony Carrigan). Zack Snyder’s dreams of rebooting the entire DC universe were short-lived, and the filmmaker was pushed out before he could create a conclusive enough world. While fans were disappointed to see him go, they have pretty much backtracked and are excited to have James Gunn helm the superhero universe now.
James Gunn (Image: Gage Skidmore | Wikimedia Commons)
A former Marvel director, Gunn has already proven his capabilities in the genre and will be directing the first Dcu film, Superman. However, fans are not happy after hearing the recent update about the movie and believe Gunn is making the same mistake as Snyder.

James Gunn and Zack Snyder are both auteurs and incredible filmmakers. Yet, DC fans have not been kind to Snyder for his dark take on the mythos and seem to hate him with a passion.

Zack Snyder’s early films proved him to be an interesting visionary who had a distinct style to his works. Grand visuals, the application of slow-mo sequences, and colorful imagery have been the main strengths and trademarks of a Snyder film. However, audiences have been divisive about his big screen DC films in the 2010s.
Zack Snyder’s DC tenure started with 2013’s Man of Steel
Considering the hit-or-miss nature of Snyder with audiences, the 2020s saw a big change in the director and where he puts his films. Starting from Army of the Dead, his films have only premiered on Netflix. This sudden downgrade from making big-budget studio films for the big screen to just releasing streaming films is surprising but a new report sheds light on how films are greenlit nowadays.

Alan Ritchson in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.

Zack Snyder is currently promoting his latest movie, ‘Rebel Moon- Part 2: The Scargiver,’ and we’re sad to report that it’s one of the lowest-rated movies of his career.
Fortunately, this whole affair provided us with the unique opportunity to pick Snyder’s brain when it comes to his former projects, notably, Dceu which ended up being rebooted by Gunn and Safran last year, with plenty of projects on the way.
Snyder has already given us some insight when it comes to the notable Superman vs. Zod fight scene, he admitted that if Superman is not put in the position to kill he is fake. He also admitted that he was surprised to see fans mocking the “Martha” scene since it was supposed to be a really profound moment in the movie during which the two men realize they aren’t actually on opposing sides.

James Gunn has been busy directing the first chapter of the new Dcu i.e. Superman (formerly Superman: Legacy). He is also simultaneously directing some episodes of Peacemaker season 2 and is handling all the grunt work that comes with being the co-chief of the new DC Studios.
It seems like part of the grunt work includes answering for the past projects of the Dcu (then the Dceu). The filmmaker was recently asked by a fan about the Green Lantern TV show for HBO Max that was in development starring American Horror Story’s Finn Wittrock. Gunn reportedly clarified the status of the project, which was announced back in 2021.
Actor Finn Wittrock Was Supposed to Headline A Green Lantern Series A still from Green Lantern: Emerald Knights
The Dceu has announced many projects in the past including films and TV shows that eventually never saw the light of day.

It had been a minute since Anna Gunn felt the anticipation of an intriguing script hitting her inbox. Understandably, the incomparable writing she received for a combined decade on Deadwood and Breaking Bad set a high bar. But then the Colin Farrell-led Apple TV+ series Sugar came along.
Created by Mark Protosevich and executive produced by Audrey Chon/Simon Kinberg, the neo-noir show ended up being one of a couple recent Breaking Bad reunions for Gunn. Co-heads of Apple TV+ programming, Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg, served as presidents at Sony Pictures Television when Vince Gilligan walked through their doors with his Breaking Bad pilot script, and on top of having a hand in Gunn joining Sugar, the two executives have been busy recruiting their former Breaking Bad collaborators to their acclaimed streamer, including Gilligan and his still-untitled upcoming series; Jonathan Banks and director-ep Michelle MacLaren for Constellation...

Zack Snyder is all set to release the second part of his space opera magnum opus Rebel Moon. The Netflix film is the follow-up to last year’s Chapter 1 – A Child of Fire. The filmmaker has had a busy few years after helming large-scale blockbusters such as Army of the Dead and Justice League.
While Snyder has worked with many A-listers, he reportedly got a call from the legendary star Tom Cruise early in his career while he had just finished 300. The actor reportedly gave him a surprise call after the film opened big at the box office. Cruise was also reportedly Snyder’s first choice to play Ozymandias in his divisive Watchmen adaptation.

While it might seem as though he already has a pretty stacked cast, James Gunn is reportedly adding at least one more, as The Wrap reports that Pruitt Taylor Vince will play Jonathan Kent, Aka the titular hero's adoptive human father in his new take on Superman.
Vince is taking on the iconic — and assuming Gunn is sticking to canon – ill-fated role of the Smallville father who discovers the infant Kal El and raises him alongside wife Martha Kent as Clark Kent. Kevin Costner played the role for Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel, while Glenn Ford took on the role in 1978’s Superman, directed by Richard Donner.

A trailer made by fans for a Batgirl movie with Jenna Ortega has got more than 1.03 million views in less than five days. It’s made by Kh Studio and uses different effects, sounds, AI, and movie stuff. But it’s just for fun and doesn’t mean Ortega is really doing anything with DC. Still, people might keep talking about Ortega joining DC because of how many people watched the trailer.
We’re not sure if there are any plans for Batgirl in Gunn’s Dcu, even though the trailer shows Dceu characters.
When James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as leaders of DC Studios last year, big changes were expected. Shortly after, the studio officially announced the end of the DC Extended Universe (Dceu) and introduced a new cinematic universe called Dcu, serving as a soft reboot. A fan-made trailer for a Batgirl movie starring Jenna Ortega has gained over 1.03 million views in less than five days. However, it’s purely for entertainment and doesn’t indicate any real projects involving Ortega and DC. Stan Lee’s favorite DC character could find a place in James Gunn’s Dcu if one director were to helm the film. In the earlier Dceu, reports suggested that Michael Bay was attached to direct a movie featuring the character Lobo. The Transformers director has a knack for creating movies that gamble with absurd characters and produce amazing results. He might be the right fit to handle this character of an intergalactic bounty hunter.
The character of Lobo could still get a solo project in James Gunn’s Dcu
Interestingly, Jason Momoa pitched a solo Lobo film to Gunn during the promotion for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Momoa became a fan of the minor Superman villain of the ’80s who became popular in the ’90s as a parody of grim and gritty characters who defined comics in that decade.

After Henry Cavill’s abrupt and unfortunate exit as Superman from the Dceu, David Corenswet is set to play the character in James Gunn’s new Dcu. Gunn has deliberately chosen a younger Superman to explore more of the character becoming this eponymous hero and balancing this with being Clark Kent on Earth.

Gunn’s Superman promises to be unique and a complete departure from the tone of Cavill’s dark portrayal of the character. Actor and recent Oscar-winner Robert Downey Jr. is known for his decade-long role as Iron Man in the MCU. The actor laid the foundations for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, alongside director Jon Favreau and producer Kevin Feige. The film is largely credited with having changed how superhero films were perceived in Hollywood.

Following several unsuccessful releases, Dceu as we knew it was abandoned with James Gunn and Peter Safran taking over the soft-rebooting of the entire cinematic universe. Fans held onto hope that in some of the franchises from Dceu, actors and characters would reprise their roles in the Dcu, sadly, the only projects currently planned to make the transitions are ‘Blue Beetle’ and ‘Peacemaker’ as Gunn has further plans for both actors and their respectable characters.
Several projects are currently in development as part of the Dcu.

One of the highly polarizing movies that was released as part of the Dceu was ‘The Suicide Squad,’ also one of the franchises that didn’t make the cut. Recently Daniela Melchior who portrayed Ratcatcher 2 in ‘The Suicide Squad’ answered several questions related to her possible return to Gunn’s Dcu in her interview with Nestor Cine. ‘Waller’ was confirmed to be in development back in 2022 as a spinoff of ‘Peacemaker’, with Viola Davis reprising her role as the titular character, recently it’s been confirmed that the show will not be comedy-oriented as ‘Peacemaker’ as Waller is much more serious character, and the show will try to reflect that tone.
‘Waller’ was supposed to be released in 2024, but the fact that Gunn is now focusing on the rest of the Dcu projects, the best-case scenario is that the show gets released in 2025, even though the 2024 release date is still present in some sources.
Since little is known regarding the overall plot of the movie, and the characters set to appear in it, we were delighted when new names appeared on the official IMDb page for the show. Mostly stunt-doubles are in question, but they do reveal what kind of characters we can expect.

1996’s animated show Superman: The Animated Series was widely loved by fans, and it wasn’t just because of its storyline. Written by Alan Burnett, Paul Dini, Stan Berkowitz, and Rich Fogel and developed by Burnett and Bruce Timm, the series also earned massive fan approval for how it paid homage to some real legends.

And by ‘real legends’, we refer to all the legendary comic book writers and artists who helped create the splendid world of superheroes and supervillains. One of these was none other than the late renowned mastermind Jack Kirby, who earned a ‘cameo’ in the very episode of the series that comic writer cum artist Alex Ross thanked the showrunners for.

For Late Night with the Devil star David Dastmalchian, all roads lead to and from Christopher Nolan.
In 2007, Dastmalchian was a struggling local theater actor in Chicago, and when Nolan’s The Dark Knight set up shop in the Windy City, he went through a circuitous casting process before eventually landing a part in his very first feature film. Dastmalchian played Thomas Schiff, a paranoid schizophrenic and former Arkham Asylum inmate that Heath Ledger’s The Joker disguised as his fellow honor guardsman during their infiltration of Commissioner Loeb’s funeral procession. When gunshots rang out and chaos ensued, Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) cornered Schiff in an ambulance and then forcefully interrogated him in another location.

James Gunn is now the co-ceo of DC Studios and is currently developing various projects to build up his new Dcu. Gunn is deeply passionate and wants to present a unique Dcu that will bring the brand back to form after a series of flops. He has already delivered two great projects in the Dcu with 2021’s The Suicide Squad and 2022’s Peacemaker.

Gunn introduced some wacky yet relatable characters with the Peacemaker series and The Suicide Squad. The latter had King Shark and no one thought that the character would turn out to be the scene-stealer of the film. Sylvester Stallone, who voiced the character in the film, fell in love with the character and was enthusiastic to bring the character to life.

Nicholas Hoult has already been part of some of the greatest blockbuster hits in his career. As he prepares to take on another iconic role in James Gunn’s Dcu, that could redefine everything, he also does not forget about the missed opportunities he experienced along the way in the industry.
It turns out that before stepping into the shoes of Lex Luthor, the actor auditioned for another role in the Batman universe, and that would be Batman himself. However, he eventually lost the role to Robert Pattinson.

A live-action adaptation of DC Comics’ Teen Titans is officially in the works for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter Ana Nogueira is already on board to write the script. Nogueira, recognizable for acting roles in CW’s The Vampire Diaries and Starz’s Hightown, is also working on DC’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, set to star Milly Alcock.
The announcement makes Teen Titans the first film added to the initial run of DC Universe productions Gunn revealed back in January 2023. It remains to be seen how or when it will slot into what’s being called Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, but Gunn, Nogueria, and the DC team have plenty of options.
Made up of superhero “sidekicks,” the Teen Titans were originally introduced in 1964 in The Brave and the Bold #54. Founding members included Robin, Wonder Girl, Kid Flash, and Aqualad.

Bill Skarsgård, son of Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård, has proven his talent as an actor with his performance in numerous projects. He made his first professional notable appearance as an actor in the lead role of the Swedish movie Simple Simon, released in 2011. However, if there is one thing that remains undisputed about the actor, it is that he specializes in the horror genre.

Henry Cavill Reportedly Cast as a Variant of One of the Most Notable X-Men in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’
One of Henry’s most notable roles in recent times is definitely that of Superman in the Dceu. Despite the movies being received with mixed reviews, Cavill’s portrayal of Man of Steel was considered to be decent enough. With his teased appearance in ‘Black Adam’ – a box office bomb, everybody expected that Dceu would only expand in the future, with Cavill even accepting & preparing to show up as Superman in several upcoming movies. Allegedly he even turned down playing Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ for a couple of more seasons, before it was cleared up that he actually walked away from the project due to disagreements with the writers and showrunners as their lack of respect toward the source material.

It’ll be another year before the Dark Knight returns. The Batman Part II, the sequel to Matt Reeves’ first bat-film starring Robert Pattinson, has been given a new release date of October 2nd, 2026.
The delay pushes the anticipated followup back from its original October 3rd, 2025 target by a full year. DC Studios insiders tell The Hollywood Reporter that the delay is a result of last year’s SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, both of which ended in the fall.
The shift is one of many on Warner Bros.’s calendar. The Bride!, which sees Maggie Gyllenhaal directing former Batman Christian Bale, will take The Batman Part II’s original October 3rd, 2025 date. Paul Thomas Anderson’s untitled project set to star Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, and Ragina Hall is set for August 8th, 2025, while Barry Levinson’s gangster movie Alto Nights has moved from November 24th this year to March 21st next.

Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2 is no longer opening on October 3, 2025 — a new launchpad for comic book movies. Instead, it is going a year later on October, 2, 2026. We hear the new date is due to the aftermath of the dual strikes.

Do you really, do you really wanna taste it? Yes, we do! But where will that taste — that is, season two of Peacemaker — land in the DC Universe timeline? That was one of the biggest questions when it was announced that the Dcu would be replacing the Dceu. James Gunn took to Threads — as he has grown quite fond of — to address where season two of Peacemaker sits in the evolving DC Universe, writing that it “will take place after the events in Superman.” It’s absolutely also worth noting that Gunn said that season one — which was released in 2022 and so part of the Dceu — is not canon in the Dcu. "Superman: Legacy" is shaping up to be a packed feature. But DC Studios co-head and writer/director of the upcoming film, James Gunn, has crammed a whole host of other characters into his reboot.

“We have filmed the first scenes [in Svalbard], which show Superman fleeing to the Fortress of Solitude,” Gunn told Svalbardposten (via Vg). “We wanted a place that was beautiful and felt like being in the middle of the Arctic, so we looked at several places in the world. But there were many things that sold Svalbard for us over the other places.”
He continued, “First, there is the natural beauty. But there’s also the fact that you’ll find a varied landscape here that you won’t find anywhere else. Nature gives a special feeling.”

With James Gunn and Peter Safran taking on the roles of co-CEOs of DC Studios in 2022, a reboot for the DC Universe became apparent, marking the conclusion of the Dceu era. James Gunn, in particular, has ambitious plans for the Dcu, signaling a new direction and vision for the cinematic universe. In fact, a new Superman concept art more or less teased a new DC era as his film could be merged with Kingdom Come’s aesthetics.

As the new year begins, there’s anticipation for the launch of a new cinematic universe centered around DC characters, known as Dcu. While the previous Dceu concluded with the relatively successful ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ most of its movies didn’t perform well. This led to Gunn and Safran being brought in to reboot Dcu, with ‘Superman’ being a highly anticipated project, despite ‘Creature Commandos’ releasing first.
After much speculation, Gunn happily announced that ‘Superman’ began filming on February 29th, coinciding with Superman’s birthday. Although filming started at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, there’s a buzz about another undisclosed location leaked by Daniel Richtman. Richtman suggests that Corenswet filmed scenes in Norway, possibly for the Fortress of Solitude.

DC Studios is gearing up for a reboot under the keen eye of esteemed filmmaker James Gunn. And the word is, that the DC co-chair has big plans for the DC Universe. He has re-casted a lot of actors, completely revamping the Dceu, as fans knew it.
With this new era being launched with Superman it is only a matter of time before we get a Justice League film. The director himself teased this via his Instagram story. And if that’s the case, there’s a supervillain who wouldn’t probably be the first choice for a main antagonist and is highly underrated. But is definitely one of the deadliest across DC comics.

Gunn’s and Safran’s newly revamped Dcu is going full steam ahead, as several projects are currently in development, most notably ‘Superman,’ which only recently started filming in Atlanta. One notable project that was retroactively stated to be a part of the Dcu is Gunn’s ‘Peacemaker.’ ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 was already confirmed to be in development when Gunn clarified that the show will be canon to the Dcu and that he will make it work in a way that is not confusing for the fans at all, and that the transition between Dceu and Dcu at least as far as ‘Peacemaker’ is concerned will be as smooth as possible.
