Sympathetic and pleasant black comedy with amusing performances from José Luis López Vázquez and Gracita Morales
ma-cortes4 October 2017
An entertaining and funny black comedy of murders , including the agreeable opening scenes recreating in cartoon (made by the prestigious Moro studios) some images about Palomos or doves . This whodunit/mystery/comedy picture was professionally directed by Fernando Fernan Gómez . It concerns about Emilio (José Luis López Vazquez) and Virtudes Palomo (Gracita Morales) are invited by don Alberto , the boss of Emilio , to a dinner at his chalet . There they are received by the eccentric couple Elisa (Mabel Karr) and her husband Don Alberto (Fernando Rey) who confuses simplicity with stupidity , both of whom attempt to deceive the visitors and frame them a killing . The main roles , Los Palomos , must spend a night of murder at the strange mansion . It is in fact an amusing imitation of Crime Story including enjoyable and sympathetic performances by the entire cast . Well-known actors at large in a countryside mansion , then appears amusement and entertainment .

This is a fun rendition of a famous play written by the prolific Alfonso Paso and scripted by Fernando Fernan Gómez himself , in which a wealthy boss , Fernando Rey and his wife Mabel Karr intend to submit the Palomo's as suspicious of a crime : the suitably eccentric aunt Mercedes/Julia Caba Alba , they have really committed . This is a very entertaining movie full of frolics , killings , antics , capers and suspects . It results to be an entertaining and bemusing spoof of crime intrigue . It is an entertaining and fun comedy of murders in which the laughs pile up before your eyes , director has got success in keeping the bizarre and grotesque appearances of the actors in hyperactive movement , shouting and frantic running around , principally from Gracita Morales . Despite the ridiculous and unnecessary camera movements , Fernando Fernan Gómez manages to maintain a coherent and compelling plot plenty of twists and turns . The screenplay is funny and high quality in which it's not difficult to work out its finale . Main cast is frankly excellent , as the botcher Jose Luis López Vazquez and Gracita Morales who create a very fun marriage . And like their characters in the film , don Alberto and Elisa, the actors Fernando Rey and Mabel Karr were married in real life . Furthermore , stands up Manuel Alexandre as an unexpected as well as hyperactive visitor and , of course , Xan das Bolas as Taxi driver is appealing too . The entire cast seems to be subsisting on sugar with wild eyes and frenetic movements the order of the day . You'll enjoy enormously the impersonations of the rare characters . The film was one of a number of pictures, mostly comedies , made and released between the mid-1960s and mid-1980s, that revived the old house mansion movie full of killings . It contains a jolly and lively musical score by Daniel White , Jesús Franco's ordinary . Evocative and atmospheric cinematography by Emilio Foriscot , being shot in Madrid.

The motion picture was well directed by Fernando Fernán Gómez who appeared in more than 200 films , directed another 20 and wrote novels , plays and poetry . He was a member of the Spanish Royal Academy and one of the best actors of the film history . Along with Icíar Bollaín , he's the only person to have been nominated as performer (El Abuelo (1998), director (El Viaje a Ninguna Parte (1986) and writer (Lázaro De Tormes (2001) for three different movies at the Goya awards . He actually won in every category at least once . This prolific and prestigious actor also directed a few films , such as : ¨Lazaro De Tormes¨ , ¨Fuera De Juego ¨, ¨Mambrú Se Fue a La Guerra¨ , ¨5 Tenedores¨ , ¨5.000 Dias Juntos¨ , ¨Ninette¨ , ¨Venganza De Don Mendo¨ , ¨El Extraño Viaje¨ that is today deemed a real ¨Cult Movie¨ and his greatest success ¨Viaje a Ninguna Parte¨
