Some things are better left unsaid.

Although Italian ,PaglierO enjoyed his only relatively successful film in France ,an adaptation of Sartre's play "la p.....Respectueuse "."Vestire Gli Ignudi " is its follow-up,a French -Italian co production casting actors from the two countries:Eleonora Rossi Drago,Gabriel (without an e in the credits) Ferzetti ,Pierre Brasseur ......

Based on a Pirandello play ,which would tend to indicate Pagliero's ambitions were still high -but his skills as a director were not so-,"Vestire Ugli Ignudi" (=clothing those who are naked)begins as a classic melodrama (the poor girl, fired by her employers -she was a governess in a rich bourgeois's house ,and she was unfairly accused of her pupil's accidental death- but further acquaintance reveals a complex (or complicated, not to say confused ) story .And the truth was probably not what the poor thing told the doctors at the hospital after she tried to commit suicide .There are many characters ,some of them pointless (the writer's former lover),some of them). And some of them are allowed to open their mouth in the last third only (the wealthy lover, played by Pierre Brasseur). And a lugubrious piano playing does not stop a single minute during the whole movie ,which becomes tedious in the end .

Ferzetti and Rossi Drago would meet again in Huston's "the Bible ..in the beginning " as Mr and Mrs Lot.

"Un Homme Marche Dans La Ville'(1950) is still considered Pagliero's peak.
