Polly Ann Young is almost a duplicate for her more famous sister, Loretta, and in this Z-grade action film where the quest for the rare black pearl leads to murder, it almost appears that it is the future Oscar Winner. But it's Polly Ann (not other sister Sally Blane) who is the missionary sent to the South Seas who ends up being involved with a gang of cutthroats after said black pearl (one man literally chases the sweet island girl Shia Jung to get it) who try to get her to kill the hero (Kenneth Harlan) trying to stop these island outsiders from exploiting the natives. The problem with the film is that there are far too many sleazy characters, and all the male characters (with the exception of the native men and the hero) are absolutely repulsive. This story has been done many times and much better (see "South of Pago Pago" for a very enjoyable variation on the same story), and while the print, for a cheaply made film, is pretty good, I just never found it a well-rounded viewing experience, or pretty much even worth sitting through again.
